Home Networking questions

Ok, I'm living at home and I have my PC set up on a secure wireless network.

I just picked up an Xbox 360 and want to connect without spending an extra $100.

My PC uses a USB connection for the network. Can I use the cable included with the 360 to connect it to my PC and do all the fun stuff that way or what?

I don't know about the included 360 cable (I don't have a 360 myself), but you could get a crossover cable and share your PC's connection with the 360. They're generally not too expensive, and certainly a lot less than a wireless attachment. They just plug into the network jack like a piece of cat5.

Hmmm... I can't tell if the cable is a cat 5 or a cossover.

    Answers that question...

Edit: What about setting it up on the PC cause I don't have the password to the network (my dad doesn't know I purchased a 360 and the argument of getting one and having it connected for XNA is kinda week)

You didn't read my posts did you?
Wireless adapter is the $100 I don't want to spend.
AND I don't have the password to place my 360 on the network.
However my computer does so I would like to piggyback my 360's connection onto my PC.

I did read your posts, up until you whined about being poor, living with your parents and buying something you shouldn't have. Sorry that I didn't immediately assume that you were a duplicitous, broke-ass loser.

Oh, and just connect the 360 to the PC and turn on ICS.

I feel the need to defend myself, but this is the internet. Thanks for the info though.

No need to defend yourself -- just ignore that kind of crap. I see nothing wrong and am glad to try to help out:

On the PC you need to enable something called Internet Connection Sharing. I think things are mostly automatic so I don't need to go into a lot of detail, but post if you have problems and I'll offer more about manual network configuation.

Yeah, Internet Connection Sharing has to be enabled, but that's pretty trivial to do. You do need the crossover cable though, if you're going that route. Regular cat5 doesn't work for it. Basically, set ICS to share your wireless connection with your network card, connect the two systems, and you should be good to go. If you need specific help with any of these steps, I'm sure tons of people can help you out.

With the 360 using either crossover or patch should work just fine actually.

Yeah, it's working now, just having a problem retrieving my old gamertag.
I canceled my old xb1 account about 2 years ago and since then I've moved and switched banks.

The guy was helpful and gave me all the old info but it's still not going through.

Yeah, Sadly your gamertag is dead. As much as I hate that shit. At least as far as I know and have attempted canceled gamertags cannot be retrieved.

Anyone care to prove me wrong?

Yeah, I called back and they explained that any xbox1 tag that is canceled is sent to the graveyard and is unretrieveable.

    So I upgraded my name.
