Seriously though, who the heck has time to commit 2-4 nights/week, 3-4 hours at a time? Come on, really? Raiding as a thing has... Inherent issues in this sort of model.
I raid two nights a week for 3 hours per night. Am I missing something?
Well, sort of, yes.
One of my old guildies was the on-call IT guy for his company, so when things broke, he had to bail. Single parents of young kids frequently have to leave at the drop of a hat. Our Rogue with the highest maintenance GF ever would constantly have to go. And take his dogs out mid raid. And go have a cigarette. (Seriously fuck that guy) Sometimes I just have a shit day at work and I just don't want to raid.
So yeah, sometimes life puts you in a position where 3-4 hours 2-4 days a week isn't something you can commit to. Unless you're that asshat rogue that didn't mind letting 24 people constantly wait around for him, but would throw a tantrum if we took 30 seconds longer than he thought we should to rebuff...
How did this guy last a week?
Did he have pics of the Guild master blowing a donkey or something?
The sky was full of stars, every star an exploding ship. One of ours.

He'd been in the guild since vanilla. He wasn't always an egotistical jerkface, it just gradually got worse and our "bad cop" officer ended up leaving so the rest of us were too nice to kick him. And all the really fantastic DPS were his BFFs, so we would have lost most of our melee. And he was fanfreakingtastic DPS...
Sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Mostly to my sanity.
On my main, who I would love to continue to improve his gear, I have gotten no upgrades recently. On my warrior, last night, I snagged 4 pieces of loot (2 for arms, 2 for prot) in two bosses. I hate the lfr. I will continue to do the LFR.
Heh, farmed all the 3 primal egg mounts for myself and a guildie some weeks ago from primal devilsaurs. At that point I could take two small devilsaurs and one big with cooldowns and some trouble.
We returned to farm some bones after some gear upgrades, now taking two big devilsaurs with cooldowns felt really easy. It's a nice way to see how the gear's improving, since the dino island's mobs don't really anything besides physical damage (and armor reduction, but meh).
Brewmaster's self heals and statue are so good. 30k hps while duoing those dinos.
The bone grind itself is rather horrible though.. 2x10k bones :P
As a protection Paladin, I have a ton of things to focus on -- my combat cooldowns, my own health, the threat of the mobs in the encounter, and the status of my party members. Sometimes I lose focus on my own health, perhaps to investigate why a party member is suddenly losing health, and when I glance back at my health bar I notice that I've lost a fair bit of health in the last 3 seconds. And I wonder, "What the heck happened?" Did I get hit with one super hard-hitting ability? A bunch of small abilities? Was it magic damage or physical damage? Did I just not get healed for a long time? What gives?
It would be cool if there was a graph that I could glance to right there in the game that could help me better understand what just happened to me.
I imagine it as sort of like a heartbeat readout for a patient in critical care: The X axis would be time, measured in seconds, and the Y axis would be your health (or perhaps the health of a target of your choosing). I'm unfamiliar with the addon API, but presumably it could update off every damage or heal event -- and could even perhaps allow you to hover over the graph and see what specific events happened to you.
world of logs?
This seems to be a much larger addon than I was imagining. I was imagining something super lightweight -- it would only hold the past few seconds of data (perhaps pausing on death).
But yeah, looks like the need has already been filled!
You know, if any of you guys have a need of a UI addon that is not currently being satisfied, let me know. I'd be interested in helping out.
To post a few ideas of areas I'm looking for something, but havent been completely satisfied with what I've found:
I'd like some sort of integration with Bagnon that allows me to also track the number of X item that is also present in the guildbank. Right now the addon can let me know how many of an item are in my bank/void storage/this character/alts, but not in the guildbank. Since, I doubt the addon is looking up the numbers of the item currently on the alt, and is probably just using the last snapshot it took when I was on that alt, I don't see why this wouldn't work. You'd probably want something that could let you filter which guildbanks show up (since I've got an active guild, and an alt/banker guild), but it would be nice to be able to get at that information more easily.
Something that would also be nice, is an addon that would let me make notes on my map (large map at least, if not the mini-map). Maybe dropping a marker (or getting to choose from several different markers that can be scaled) at a location, or something where I can put some text in. If I could also draw some polygons/lines and add comments it would be great.
An updated move/rescale all windows mod would be nice. I think there's an old one on curse, but I haven't had much luck in making it work.
the last few seconds probably isn't terribly useful information, is the thing (unless it's the few seconds before you died, which again, skada/recount track.)
Something I've always wanted is an addon that would represent various 'markers' better in the gamespace; I can set up grid or vuhdo to show me who has aggro, who my target is, who has a particular debuff, etc., but it would be nice if there were some kind of tidyplates-style addon that could show me where that stuff is within the raid. DBM can kind of approximate this with raid markers, but it would be neat if everybody could have them pop up attached to their nameplates or something, and/or if the nameplates could pop up dynamically in response to the presence of different triggers, since having raid nameplates up all the time creates a lot of visual clutter.
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
ArkInventory can show items in guild bank too. I haven't got characters in multiple guilds, but it does show the guild bank name after the item too. It's an awesome addon.
There's lots of things that the default UI could have but doesn't, and I think coordinates is one thing that is a deliberate omission. There are better ways to mark locations in-game, and I don't think they want to design UI so it's meant to be used with WoWhead :P

I'm considering starting the 10k bone grind on my paladin (because I want the achievement on him); is it doable just sticking to the lower end dino's? If it were on my DK I know I could take stuff that was a lot more difficult; but even as survivable as my paladin is with his good gear, I don't' want to get in over my head. But at the same time I don't want to be counterproductive just sticking to the lower end dinos.
Actually, anyone around here interested in doing some real-id grinding of bones? No 'schedule' or anything, just if folks are around, we do it, if not, no biggie; no need to try to make it 'even' or anything.

Bagnon lets you do guild banks and void storage, reskinned and from anywhere. I don't use them though because of the reskin. I like bagnon for my bank and for my bags, but I would prefer the default UI for the guild bank and void storage because I'm weird. I wish I could just keep their normal 'skins' but still access them from anywhere with a console command; I mean just view them. With bagnon I can pull up my bank anywhere, but it's just an 'image', and I can't use it.
Yeah, I don't use the bagnon guildbank or void storage, since those both lose some functionality in bagnon. Does ArkInventory play nice with bagnon, or do they both replace the same things?
I still use good old BankItems to see my bank and guild bank when I'm out and about. Just /bi in game brings them up with the default UI. No idea if it is affected by other bag mods, I don't use any.
So after not getting epic pants for my Monk (Or Druid now that I think about it) at all in T14, now I've gotten doublee 522 tier from Nalak and a token from Ji-Kun. And Mistweaver is plenty decent to solo quest on, so I never go DPS.
Wait, why am I not making my WW spec/gear into BM?
So for anyone that cares; you can control one of those dreadblade things in Dread Wastes to fight the Warbringer; it will take off about half of its life; but since you can't taunt those things anymore, you won't be able to prevent it from just getting whomped afterward.

Yeah, it's doable. Direhorns drop around 20 bones on average, and the small direhorns/devilsaurs 10ish (devilsaurs bit more than direhorns). Primal devilsaurs drop around 40 bones. I think overall it's faster if you can just clear all the devilsaurs (their bone drop / health ratio is better!), but it's probably not that much worse with direhorns. It's awful grind either way.
If you're doing the dinos in dps spec though, the direhorns' stacking debuff is annoying, as you may need to have it drop off between dinos. Tank spec it doesn't matter.

Been a while since I used Bagnon, but yeah, I think they do pretty much the same thing. I don't think ArkInventory does anything about void storage though, but it does replace normal bags and bank.
The thing I really like about ArkInventory is that you can sort items by type (and create custom sorting rules too). So handy to have junk items, different trade goods, item sets, heirlooms etc automatically sorted.
Speaking of addons, does anyone know of a current map addon that allows me to add markers and notes? I remember an old addon called mapnote back in the vanilla days, but I can't find anything current.

Regarding the map note addon: Let me know if you are unable to find one. This doesn't strike me as being super hard to implement, but then again I know nothing about the addon API! So I probably shouldn't say such things.
Creatures that are outdoors in the world and are Level-90 and above, now have a chance to drop Lesser Charms of Good Fortune.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is kinda nice too
Players with full health no longer count towards the cap for area-of-effect healing abilities and spells.
And last, but not at all least:
Titan's Grip now also works with Polearms and Staves.
Fucking. Finally. Now they just need to make transmog work between all 2h weapons.
EDIT: Oh, awesome:
Two new purchasable items using Elder Charms of Good Fortune have been added to the quartermasters on the Isle of Thunder.
*An Empty Supply Crate that can be placed and jumped on in the Troves of the Thunder King.
Excess Elder Charms of Good Fortune can be used to purchase an Arcane Trove/ Sunreaver Bounty.
I'm really looking forward to 5.3. It should be as good as 5.1 was and what 5.2 should have been.
Turns out Holy (priest) quests exceptionally well.
Who knew?
EDIT: Though it doesn't benefit to use Shadow Word <spell>, mana-wise they're absurdly less efficent than Smite/Holy Fire, and don't benefit from Shadow's bonuses anyway.
I wish when you got a queue it just autoswapped you into the spec that popped and locked it. I'm getting super tired of wiping because 1-2 of the healers are DPS. And it's never a light healing fight like Sha, it's always a Garalon or Tsulong. $%^&*(

When I do Tsulong on a character whose offspec is healing, I switch to it if I'm dps. Because you can bet that at least 1 of your real healers has been dps the whole time.
Man why does MSV part 2 (LFR) feel so long? Spirit kings are actually pretty hilarious (not in a good way) when your raid is full of really well geared players; shit hits the fan hard during madness when dudes bust out the AOE and just straight up murder faces.
Bleh. So I'm just spending gold coins on every boss in the 5.0 LFR's just because. I don't really need anything but I figure, eh, at worst I get sha crystals, and maybe I can put together a Shadow set that isn't just shared from my holy set so I can properly gem/enchant/reforge it for Shadow.
EDIT: man it just hit me again that they're not actually doing Tri spec in 5.3 and I got all sad.
Which reminds me; how does a well geared prot pally solo these days, as far as like, rares, questing, etc? Fresh 90 it was slow as shit, and I hear bad things about prot's DPS right now, even with haste gear. I just don't want to give up healing queue times, but it feels wrong not having a prot spec; but my ret gear is great and it just kills things so fast.
I'm debating trying it out for healing, but I only know Holy.
I think you found this out on your own, but both Priest healer specs are fine for questing. Holy gets great when getting Chakra and Disc is great from level 10.
I disagree on not using Shadow spells, though, at least Death is good damage for an instant spell.
I had a pretty good night last night; the last gate on the Isle of Thunder was finally down, and somehow a Horde raid managed to form quicker than alliance.
However, I think it took nearly every Horde player on the island to join the group, and I suspect in the future, that any day other than Wednesday, it's going to be pretty hard to get the numbers considering the Horde population;am I right in thinking you won't get anything for further kills?).
Did a few scenarios; you know what gets old? Having Resto and Elemental as my 2 specs, and seeing Enhancement gear drop in the majority of cases. This would be a bigger deal if I needed gear from there, but I'm hoping this silliness isn't going to continue in these heroics scenarios.
Titan's Grip now also works with Polearms and Staves.
On the one hand: Coooooool.
On the other hand: Eh, there's no practical point. Something like 99.99% of all polearms and physical staves are agility. I was going to make the remark that I think the last physical polearm was back in Vanilla (my very first epic was the Halberd of Smiting from ZG, which I still have in my bank today!), but a quick check to confirm this shows that one of the thunderforged weapons is a str polearm. So go figure.
I do agree they need to make all 2-hands transmoggable with each other. I have my above Halberd of Smiting and one of the scythes from... one of those elemental holiday bosses who's name completely escapes me at the moment. I'd love to be able to transmog into those. Though apparently the restriction is due to weapon animations or something?
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Looks like the last str polearm was all the way back in Burning Crusade. After that, one of the Pandaria lost treasures is a i419 str polearm. And then finally a thunder armament from ToT.

Altoholic is most likely what is tracking guild bank items for me, mousing over an item shows the amount on my alts as well as how many are in the guild bank.

The bolded is also true for Prot Warriors. When Pent was a fresh 90, I killed things as prot because even though the fights were long and drawn out, more mobs made the fights shorter and safer. I believe I once pulled 8 things and they all died within a minute of the first, and I was close to full hp.
Now that he's geared better, I'll do (when I do them) dailies as arms because its just flat faster, but no where near as safe.

also we found that iron qon is a lot easier to heal if everyone and his dog doesn't have the aoe lighting debuff in the last phase ^^

When I do Tsulong on a character whose offspec is healing, I switch to it if I'm dps. Because you can bet that at least 1 of your real healers has been dps the whole time.

I think you found this out on your own, but both Priest healer specs are fine for questing. Holy gets great when getting Chakra and Disc is great from level 10.
I disagree on not using Shadow spells, though, at least Death is good damage for an instant spell.
Altoholic is most likely what is tracking guild bank items for me, mousing over an item shows the amount on my alts as well as how many are in the guild bank.
The bolded is also true for Prot Warriors. When Pent was a fresh 90, I killed things as prot because even though the fights were long and drawn out, more mobs made the fights shorter and safer. I believe I once pulled 8 things and they all died within a minute of the first, and I was close to full hp.
Now that he's geared better, I'll do (when I do them) dailies as arms because its just flat faster, but no where near as safe.
