I totally agree with you on the gear thing. Here's my basic checklist if I get gloves or something:
I have to cut gems and socket them.
I have to enchant the item.
I have to put my engineering tinker on it.
I have to reforge it.
Add a belt buckle if it's a belt.
I have to spend valor to upgrade it.
I choose to transmogrify it.
All of that requires at least two of my characters, and like 10-15 minutes of logging in/out, getting the mats, running around, etc. I mean, it's still satisfying to get the item ready to go, but I can see the point.
Yeah, Ghostcrawler was talking about this on Twitter a while back actually. Talking about how when you got an upgrade you used to be able to put it on, right then and there, and how much of a hassle it is nowadays.
On the topic of Flex Mode using LFR style looting... I mean, it's totally possible that a boss will die and NO ONE will get any loot from it. Which kinda sucks! On the flipside, a boss could die and everyone in the raid could get something, though. It's all luck of the draw, but it still sucks, especially for something more organized than LFR.
I think it might be okay if the droprate ends up being maybe a little bit higher than LFR, though. Or if you could see what dropped. Or both. Something that validates that loot IS actually dropping. Cause ultimately, I do think the LFR loot system is the best system for dealing with random strangers. RNG is a cruel mistress, but it's also the most fair. I'd hate to see ninja looting or pig-looting or whatever else kind of jerkery going on in Flex Mode, especially given the target audience.
Sometimes you really have to look at it from the dev's point of view re: loot system.
If it uses the "normal"system, then you have things like pug loot masters keeping all the loot. You have the idea that aggressive raiders are required to run flex raiding to funnel loot to specific characters.
Honestly, now that I'm typing it, those don't seem bad/unreasonable as I first thought. Basically who cares?
But if it doesn't use the LFR system normal raiders will complain about it.
I just hate the LFR loot system. It's the symbol of what's wrong with their design ideas regarding character progression in this expansion (in that they think it should be so ball breakingly slow that people quit). I seriously don't how anyone not in a raiding guild can play anything besides PvP. LFR's system is awful. I get by in raids because I'm the only clothy that can't use spirit as hit and we get bundles of spirit cloth. If we had a warlock, my rate of acquiring gear would plummet.
Being from a raiding guild and still doing LFR because I'm impatient and want my legendary items as quick as possible, I've still only gotten like 3-4 pieces of loot from LFR in 5.2. It's a little fucked up.
it would be nice if 'lfr loot' were an option groups could pick in flex raids, rather than just the default.
Someone in the MMO-C tweet/blue post roundup today mentioned making it optional per the raid leader. I could get behind that. The LFR system definitely has its benefits but if they're selling this as "thing friendly guilds can do together!" then those guilds should be able to decide what to do with the items. (Say, you want to gear up your new tank a bit, so some people bring alts but would pass on items for the main, etc.)
Since I'm a very social drunk (and sober), my real ID is [email protected] if anyone wants to just chat everyone once in a while.

Guys, the reason the current LFR loot system was implemented was because of people being complete and utter geese with the old system. I for one don't want to compete with 10-15 people for every cloth drop like the old days.
Flex raids only involve groups made up of people you know/pugged, so Cata-LFR style shittery wouldn't have been happening. The only shittery that could happen would be if the RL had Master Loot on, didn't specify loot rules before the raid, and then did shit like giving his friends/guild loot over other people. Generally to avoid that you get the RL to specify the loot rules in chat beforehand so if they break the rules you can report them, but it seems like Blizz isn't interested in even that level of GM interaction and just premptively made it LFR rules.
Guys who have done the Warlock green fire quest, is there a reliable way to stop the felhunters from devouring enslave off of the pitlord?
I have the first phase down pat, but I don't seem to be able to handle the damage of the felhunters, especially when the pit lord decides to get in on the act.

I've seen my fair share of goosery and shittery happen regardless, though. For example, ICC pugs during Wrath. Even with a seemingly "fine" run, you'd get to say, Deathbringer. The fucking trinket that everyone ever wanted drops, RL would ninja it. OOPS. Even if you're savvy and know to avoid suspicious runs, there's always going to be people who fall victim to that kind of stuff. Not everyone is that smart or savvy.
So I dunno. I think it's one of those "better safe than sorry" approaches. Cause man I could see it all happening. I mean, I guess the other idea too is sort of "gating" loot, right? Flex is gonna be easier than Normals, and if gear dropped off every boss... etc etc. It's one of those harsh truths to the game. Yes, LFR loot is a low droprate and is essentially "gated", because it keeps you playing the game.
Hypothetically let's say LFR dropped loot every single kill. You'd quickly get everything, and then you'd never run it again. You'd have nothing to do anymore. So yknow, for as much as people complain about the loot system/droprate, it's one of those necessary evils.
It's also a mentality thing too though. I've trained myself to not care that much if loot doesn't drop from LFR, and my sanity is in check due to that. Back in Dragon Soul LFR, there was one occasion on Madness. I was on my Hunter, and there was only one other Hunter in the raid. He had a better weapon than the Deathwing Bow, so I figured if it dropped it'd be safely mine. Kill Madness, bow drops. Guess who wins it? That's right, the other jerkoff hunter. I kind of flipped my shit that night and later realized that I need to force myself to stop caring about loot in LFR.
But despite all this, maybe there's some tweaks or iterations to the system they can make. It's not perfect, and still very very new. Just have to see I guess.
Wow this kind of turned into a pseudo-rant about LFR. oops?
Well I lost the two handed sword to people using weapons from the vanilla era on my warrior which was rather upsetting and again to a person to allready had it
If they want people to raid let them buy the raid gear like we were able to in the wrath and the last two raids
Flex is something I feel is going to be bad like trainwreck with spilled chemicals in your yard bad
I would rather have the lfr work as I said 25 people fighting it as it was geared for 20 people and work like the real raid so if you want to raid you would know what to do
Making LFR a slightly scaled down raid sounds good on paper but it just wouldn't work because people.
First, almost no one would know what to do and those who did would be largely unwilling to explain it. Then, if someone did explain it most of the raid wouldn't understand the explanation and someone would get bored waiting and pull the boss early. Trolls would give suicidal advice or pull the boss early just for "fun." Everyone would die repeatedly and blame everyone else in sight.
In short, if anything other than a pre-made group got in there killing any bosses would take a miracle on the order of one-shotting Lei Shen in LFR the first week he was available.

As I spent 1.5 hours pulling Lei Shen in LFR last night, you could probably put 25 people in 10 man lei shen and they would still give it a good go at wiping over and over. Our kill we only had like 15 bouncing bolt adds up going into the third phase (woo 5 stacks of determination). You should have seen the other wipes.
I have not been to the new lfr because I don't feel like it

So rank 9 of Brawler's Guild sucks. I can't beat Big Badda Boom. I just hit the enrage every time. I really don't know what to do about that.
Side note, someone put a Green Carp up on AH this weekend for like 4k so yay, I now have a carp (not for lack of trying, the drop rate is insanely low). Also I guess they added a new fist weapon you can get? I was fishing in Dread Wastes and saw an elite lobster. Killed him and he dropped a necklace. I looked it up - apparently there are lobsters in each zone and when you combine the necklaces they summon The Lobster King or something and he drops Lobstmourne (or something like that) which is a fist weapon that looks like a lobster claw :P Since I have no inventory space I didn't bother to do it, but that's kind of neat.

actually they are making it lfr rules because they don't know (yet) how to handle scaling of drop quantity to amount of people present. I.e. if 3 items are supposed to drop for 10, how many drop for 11. Whatever the system they chose, it also has to meet the requirement that it won't make groups take more or less people than they intended just to game the drop quantity.

I'm still debating getting that fist weap. I haven't been happy with fist models for*ever*. I've got the 2pc fist set from Cata sitting on my rogue unused. Debating using that for xmog on the Enh if/when I get a new set of fists (currently DW 522 council axes both xmogged as Dragonfury).

Man, my mother in law must have been crazy lucky with them or she is doing nothing but fishing because every couple of days I find another carp in our guild bank.
So LFR reset and I didn't get a runestone from Lei Shen. Apparently Blizzard loves low drop rates so much, that you aren't even guaranteed to get a 100% drop :P
So yeah, still 2 short with only 3 bosses left to go. I've gotten 1 runestone from the last 15 kills.

Doesn't LFR reset tomorrow? EDIT: And the 100% runestone hotfix tomorrow too.
I can guarantee LFR just reset for me. I got a tier helm drop from consorts even after I did it last thursday. I hope Blizzard's fucked up timezone nonsense with my server doesn't screw me out of a runestone.
So, I got a runestone off Primordius which puts me at a neat 11. I really hope that if I do Lei Shen tomorrow that he drops a stone, because otherwise I have to wait another fucking week. If I get fucked out my cloak because Blizzard can't be assed getting maintenance working right with Oceanic servers, they can go get fucked.
There's been something odd with the servers this past week. Some in our guild noticed we could zone into any instance, zone back out and the Mogu Coin quest reset (worked for me with the Mogu'Shan Palace entrance by the GL rep vendor). Unfortunately I didn't have enough lesser charms to get more than 3 extra Runes out of it.

I have the first phase down pat, but I don't seem to be able to handle the damage of the felhunters, especially when the pit lord decides to get in on the act.
The fel hunters can only dispel the enslave if they are facing in roughly the pit lord's direction. When I did it, I sent the pit lord far left of the main portal, and stood slightly to the right of it, picking them fel hunters up as they spawned so they'd run to me (and thus the pit lord would be behind them). After that I would reposition myself further right so I could send the pit lord back on the boss.
I wish that someway, somehow, that I could save every one of us

So this is curious:
Cory Stockton @mumper:
Taking a tour of the Nintendo offices! #soexcited #gamers @ Nintendo of America
Wonder what WoW's lead designer is doing at Nintendo HQ :P
>We've thrown out the holy trinity. No, the whole combat system, just jump on things now.
>No more groups. It's just you, 6.2 patches in Luigi so you can bro-op stuff.
>No more gear outside of overalls. No more professions outside of plumbing.
>You will never actually do plumbing work.
>No progression, only coins. Coins also replace health.
>Eliminating hit, expertise, and all other stats except mustache.
>No factions, everyone now accepts quests from mushrooms and jumps on dinosaurs/dragons/something else.
>All ground mounts are now karts, all flying mounts are clouds.
>No more questing, your objective from the moment 6.0 launches is to rescue Princess Daisy.
>Princess Peach will replace Daisy and Princess Rosalina will be added as the story progresses in future patches.
>Blocks, oh hell yes, blocks. Jump into those for more coins.
>All chat functions removed, your character will occassionally make noises with a vaguely Italian accent.
>UI completely reworked, only the coin count is visible. Recount is now part of the base game, but no one can ask to link it (no chat), and everyone does the same damage when jumping.
>Druids still exist and can shapeshift to instantly max out coins and defeat all the enemies on the screen.
