@Delzhand I was recruiting you as a crossbow dragoon, read the Beastslayer skill and it says its melee only. Did you want to stay crossbow or would you like me to make you spear or something?

Hmm. I was reading http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp/999440-tactics-ogre-let-us-cling-together/faqs/62169 and it said it's common to build TP with a 2h crossbow...

Go ahead with spears for the time being, I'll play around with my save file tonight and see what's up.

Edit: Seems it does work with crossbows. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/999440-/62131422

How does affinity work in this? I remember hearing that if you went Chaos path first and rescued Arycelle, she'd leave at some point during the Law path due to not liking that you've been fighting a certain type of enemy or somesuch.

Okay guys, im playing through the wildwood right now, but its all somewhat boring random encounter stuff. But with so many skillpoints and levels gained for our guys theres a choice we can make.

Option 1: I treat them like random encounters and keep them spoiled in the next update, and we just briefly mention some key skills we pick up and the next story battle event is part of the update tomorrow.

Option 2: I can put up a mini update tonight, go indepth with how our team is doing, what our skills look like, what we're equipped with. Kind of update on the team stats kinda thing. I can do that tonight, then tomorrow we do the battle event seperately.

    Let me know guys.

Well option 2 would be more about the team and skills and gear info than about the wildwoods, I haven't been taking extra screenshots than a normal random encounter. But its looking like we're leaning more towards option 1 anyways.

I've finally come up with a winning strategy for Dragons.

    1) My dragon engages the enemy dragon in combat. They dance for hours.
    2) My Dragoon/Beast Tamer gent comes in and politely asks the Dragon to abandon his violent pursuits and work for The Greater Good.

Failing 2), My Dragoon/Beast Tamer will shoot that jackass in the back until he is dead.

Edit: I missed the further Rogue conversation earlier. I actually really like Backstab. The damage added to the hit is significant, and it gives a Dagger/Blowgun Rogue a reliable source of damage in addition to all of their inherent utility.

Update 18.5: Where we do a closer introspection.

Don't expect a lot of words with this one, this is basically a lot of random battle screens, and a lot of character lists. I'm taking a quick moment to show how we've grown and what we're currently equipped with.

Random battle on the way to the Wildwood.

    0sa4OPl.png

    8U53k8D.png

    kTjk5at.png

    i8eBEXI.png

    mRsQNsD.png

Couple lizard men, lots of humans. Right now we're situated pretty damn well to wipe these guys off the face of the earth. No problems with this random encounter setup.

    The Wildwood outing:
    WXDJMWP.png

The start of our journey. I was wrong, theres a lot more maps in this section than I recalled. We started on the first one available.

    wIY3SoQ.png

    flNhxre.png

    fZy9mAB.png

    xXvJi5W.png

    I11swzq.png

One gryphon, couple human classes. Khildith found +3 Loyalty card. Erlec found +Strength card. Gryphon went down after 3 rounds, cleaned up the rest pretty easily. The encounters in this area are 6 players so I was forced to switch the units around a lot to maintain xp equilibrium.

    XrvBkGq.png

We took the right path first. The upper path has a lot of really strong fucking beasts and dragons. I wanted to maximize the xp and skill we could get before I got too angry to continue.

    d9fLrMb.png

    TotwyyG.png

    fpz8JHv.png

Not a tough fight. Getting our Ninja up to everyone else's level was our primary objective and hes coming along nicely. Just need to be able to buy better weapons for him and we'd be set.

    VYm30Q0.png

    UkFqio3.png

New enemy in the center in the robes. Thats the female Swordmaster sprite. No classmarks from her unfortunately.

    W3JtKZ3.png

    rwhUlcK.png

Flavor text and graphic for Boon of Swiftness. Castable haste from Cleric, a godsend for when no one needs damage. Amazingly useful, and super expensive at 30 mana. Castable by Clerics and Rune Fencer/Valkyries which is why you always want your rune fencer/valkyrie to go Divine.

    qSV11qC.png

    jJsdl4t.png

    1Sq7oLT.png

Nightslyr picks up a +Strength card, while Khildith finds another +Avoid card. This fight went well, but definitely not easy. We're getting to the part where the survivability of Knights and Terror Knights is making some battles slog down if you try to focus them first. I also brought along Delzhand so we had little damage from him, and didn't bring Snot so we had no magical damage to bypass physical defenses. Got really good xp for the Dragoon class though, so it wasn't that bad.

    1JCYytF.png

    QjY9Lyx.png

The obvious counter to being attacked from two fronts, we send all our units up the mountain to clear out onside and gain height advantage over the other half of the battle. Their ninja had a charm blowgun and managed to charm both Delzhand (who then immediately got KO'd) and Nightslyr (Who then healed himself and an enemy, then beat up our guys for the third round) which caused us some problems.

    cxrpdPg.png

    3mOZo41.png

    bBzB6fm.png

The battle was a pain with all their physical defense, along with the charms. Nightslyr was tearing through anyone he got close to though, so I'm really happy with where hes at. We need to find some weapons for him though, he is using level 5 and 6 stuff. Delzhand levels up enough to finally use one of the 2h crossbows, but hes low enough level that its not going to be doing too much, especially in the next fight.

    ZolFmXz.png

This is a terrible fucking set up for our next fight. We're heading to the north trail in the wildwoods now, and I majorly fucked up. I bring Delzhand along thinking he really needs the xp, but hes too low to do any damage to what we're facing in this fight. I also bring along Jakarrd because hes been sitting patiently waiting for his time to shine. Both of these guys don't do too much damage in this fight. This is Dragon Territory. Its time for Erlec to shine.

    xt62v8H.png

    CV94QOn.png

    rM1czhs.png

    YSlYWDo.png

The new dragon types. We've seen the green one before. Theres also two Pixies healing and nuking from range.

    RWkYILZ.png

    xW0sUlC.png

Two out of Four isn't bad. Erlec comes up huge this fight. It was touch and go the entire time, with multiple resurrections and Delz making a beeline for the empty corner of the map so he didn't get one shot. Used the dragons as meat shields since their super high defense countered the other dragon's super high offense.

    pWM7m8a.png

    VBNpIwK.png

    OdGFtX5.png

    EU7TWXY.png

    ryDSvJf.png

That was the last successful fight in the Wildwood. I'll show you the next fight that I attempted but after 2 game overs in a row I just gave up and headed back out.

    mTIopic.png

4 Dragons, 3 Skeletons, a pixie familiar, and a fucking floating imp devil thing. That fight went on for a long time, but eventually we just got wrecked after downing 2/3 of the skeletons and 2/4 of the dragons. All in all a successful trip into the wildwoods for xp and skills. Lets head back to town and find out what we're equipped with.

    Character Stats, Skills, and Spells:

    OfVKnEq.png

    eRhI4qn.png

Sam is still running Lightguard, Instill Light, and Heal. Going for a support tanky build, I'm sending him into the middle of fights and using heal and rampart aura to protect the squishier melee guys.

    kTeqNZH.png

    XlMGhvY.png

    xR0NM5t.png

Basil is our typical cleric. Good heals, Can cure debuffs, and has Haste. He has maxed out the skill slots and is now working on filling them with defensive abilities.

    reTWwN9.png

    PTvk1YU.png

Our 2h sword warrior, Khildith is focused on hurting things. I've given him Wade so that he can more easily cross the water filled maps we've been fighting in. I'm happy with his damage, and he is defensive enough to survive a few rounds until he gets healed.

    tYcLtlN.png

And for some reason the Skill page didn't get uploaded. He has the same skills as Khildith, except he has Berserk instead of an extra Skill slot. Both are focused on getting into the middle of the melee and fucking things up. PLA is also focused on hitting Khildith with his AOE every chance he gets.

    3vQBddk.png

    2EHp85K.png

    doWooCb.png

Snot does a lot of Fire based damage. Thats what hes built for, and hes really good at it. Sparksphere 2 is used when he has an excess of mana and a clear LOS to the target. Firestorm is used when he can't guarantee a missile spell would hit.

    TadAPTW.png

    teqLsnz.png

    Rl1KHCG.png

Lightning/Sword Rune Fencer Drokmir. Our jack of all trades. Usually front line, but can support and usually the one designated to rezz or heal with herbs if needed. Good defenses with the shield, can instill lightning if others are in range and hes not. Pretty strong. Not really sure where to go with skills. Probably pick up defenses or field alchemy soon.

    1ogOrWS.png

    ktPwAh1.png

Basic archery skills for Canopus. Flies into position, shoots people, they die.

    yo2hvsY.png

    iqmXTJz.png

Archer Extraordinaire Quarthinos. Almost always far back out of the enemy's range hes been focusing purely on damage output.

    FIjOe69.png

    29CTy5d.png

Erlec the Tamer. His whip hits pretty hard now, and hes already proven his worth with the Taming of 2 dragons. He also has beast taming learned, but you can only have 1 recruit ability at a time. Will be focusing on empowering the beasts next, so we can bring the dragons along and just watch them eat people.

    TILAVDw.png

    qCPjhEl.png

Nightslyr the Ninja. We only have 1 katana available, so he ends up using the Katana and Dagger Combo. Hits decently hard, but hits twice to make up for it. Squishy as hell still, but can survive 1-2 hits. If protected he can tear through enemy lines and we've just recruited him a few battles ago. Ninjutsu spells are decent, but I'd rather save his turns for stabbing people. Skills will be focused on damage and survivability as he goes along. Hes still far behind in total skill points earned.

    jSf1mEV.png

    WuaNOHf.png

Jakarrd jumped a spot and took Nightslyr's spot for a bit, then had to be benched for a while. He has a lot of levels and decent gear, but not enough skill points to put him on Quarthinos' level. Most likely the exact same skills as Quarts gets, just a bit slower to earn those skill points.

    U4P4uTU.png

    wYP7po6.png

Our newest Recruit Delzhand. Crossbow Dragoon, he'll be focusing on skills that let him destroy beasts and dragons. Because seriously, they're so goddamn annoying. Non-humans end up having a huge health pool and massive defense while still being able to deal ridiculous amounts of damage. As we level him up he can definitely turn out to be a game changer for beast heavy fights.

    f3LMZjV.png

    Our total class levels.

And thats it for the intermission check-in with our team.

A quick explanation of how loyalty works. Theres multiple factions in this war; Walister, Galgastan, Bakram, even Zenobians. When you recruit units they can be either Walister or Galgastan (at least so far, I haven't seen the others). Every unit you have has a hidden loyalty number. As you do things they like or dislike, their loyalty will change. Some units are also Chaotic or Lawful by nature, and will not like it if you make decisions that are against their alignments. Right now we have all Walister units except Quarts who happens to be from Galgastan. If we fight Walister units our own Walister Born units will lose a bit of loyalty, however if we fight Galgastan units then Quarts will lose loyalty. There are tarot cards that can increase loyalty, and if you do actions that they appreciate they'll also gain loyalty that way. If you press the select button and select their portrait it will give you a slight hint on how they feel about it. Typically something along the lines of "This unit supports you completely" or "While not openly critical of you, he will not speak against those who are" and stuff like that. Its important to keep track of their loyalty if it gets too low, they can abandon your order and leave you high and dry. Further in the game there is a critical choice you can make, which can have a huge impact on loyalty of the named units you get. One choice in particular can cause Arycelle to be 1 step away from abandoning you completely if you make it. We'll see what happens as we go along and let you guys vote on it.

Thanks for reading it. Hope you guys have been enjoying this LP as much as I have been enjoying putting it up.

Looks like Geth enjoys it too.

Or agrees with it at least...?

I actually had Arycelle at the very lowest loyalty in my playthrough. But you get a good sized loyalty bonus whenever a skill ranks up, so I took her into a battle with dual daggers and counter and just let her beat on a golem for 1hp for an hour while I kept her healed.

    Worth it. Arycelle is godlike.

Arycelle is okay, archers are godlike.

Running out of skills won't ever happen; every skill has 8 ranks, and there are something like 6 elements and twice that many weapons.

E: Oh, and -ology skills that boost your damage versus enemy types.

My Arycelle's been in every battle, she's got like 300000 unused skillpoints. First person to hit rank 8 with a weapon. She's got the bow that inflicts Shackled.

She's a god in my save file.

I do find that Archers run out of useful skills to purchase sooner than other classes, but I think a lot of that is because they need so very little to be effective.

Yeah. They basically need no defensive abilities and the skills they do carry (bows, anatomy, trajectory, tremendous/double shot) don't have ranks. Really, it's just strengthen and...?

  • Wooden SpoonWooden Spoon Great for SaucesRegistered User regular
I mean, I throw Trueflight on there, just because I can. I'm aware it's unneeded after a while. I may even throw Spell Ward and Sidestep on Arycelle this time so that she's basically unhittable by anything, ever.

About strengthen: do you guys see a notable improvement with it? I remember hearing that its effect was negligible, but that seems silly.

I think dragons are my new favorite. I'm planning to field an entire team of rock-tossing dragons in the very near future.

Gryphons > Dragons for allies. Gryphons have flight, and you don't have to level up 8 different colors individually. God, that's such a dumb mechanic. Although I guess it's useful if you want to field a party of all level 1s and raise them together.

  • Wooden SpoonWooden Spoon Great for SaucesRegistered User regular
