King of Dragon Pass is a complex choose your own adventure game released by A-Sharp in 1999 and purchasable from GoG for $6 dollars(or $10 for iphones). Its pretty great, you should buy it.
The general premise is thus: You play a clan of humans who have moved to a new region of the world. The goal is to get one person of your clan elected as the King of Dragon Pass. To become King you must first form a tribe of clans. And then you must perform the 7 hero quests (within 10 years), form a Kingdom and prove you're worthy of the title King of Dragon Pass.
Normally, in an LP of this sort the people watching along at home would vote and decisions about how things are going to be handled. The LP'er would provide you with information about your Tula(the land you have) and the situations and then you would get to choose.
Not so in this LP. In this LP (hopefully) I will be recruiting as many people as I can to role play the various nobles of our Clan. If there is a decision that only one person is privy to then they get to make it alone and no one else is even going to get to see the choice(so choose your explorers and diplomats wisely). If a Noble dies so does that players involvement in the game. If we get a new Noble (which is likely to happen if someone dies) then we can add a new player to the game
Currently this means i have openings for
20 players. This is because we have 20 nobles in our Tula. These Nobles will be, roughly, chosen for you. Since the game provides them names and abilities and ages etc.
At a minimum we can start with 7, since 7 is the number of Nobles who are on the Clan Ring and I must have a full clan ring. In which case
I will roleplay the remaining Nobles. We can start as soon as we have 7 members.
Requirements:
1) Read the Manual. There is one for the IOS version here :
http://a-sharp.com/kodp/ios/KoDP-Manual.pdf
This is the biggest requirement. Its not too long but generally gives you information about what you should be doing. I will be able to provide information about the Tula and its inhabitants and will generally do this at decision points where the information is worthwhile.
2) Be willing to have fun and be willing to look at this thread once a day
3) If you want to be on the Clan Ring or the Clan Leader you should be more active since YOU will be making the majority of the decisions. There are two other positions which are important(the Warleader and the Lawspeaker)
How play will progress:
Generally the game can take quite a long time to play since there are many updates and many decisions(for instance one of the LP's at the bottom has nearly 500 updates). Because of this, instead of giving you a choice every time one is possible, we will instead set an agenda, which I will follow unless something comes up which needs to be handled.
The agenda will be made up of 11 consecutive decisions each year corresponding to 2 week of game time (In which one decision can be made) Each week of game time corresponds to one half of a season of the year with the 11th being a special season.
What this means is that each year we will have
Sacred Time: Allocation of Clan Magic
2 Sea Season Choices
2 Fire Season Choices
2 Earth Season Choices
2 Dark Season Choices
2 Storm Season Choices
Generally these actions consist of
Adjusting the Composition of our Tula (more/less crafters/hunters/farmers/warriors) (re-arranging the Clan Ring) (Building fortifications)
Sacrificing to the Gods for a specific purpose (to learn a ritual/conduct a ritual)
Performing a Heroquest
Building a Temple/tearing down a temple
Raiding (for cows or for loot)
Diplomacy (ending a feud, trading, setting up trade routes)
Exploration (finding stuff in our or other tula's)
When things come up I will PM make a post and PM any private information to the relevant parties whereupon it will be "resolved"
Hopefully in this way we will be able to more swiftly progress through the years and crown one of you the King of Dragon Pass.
As far as i know there have been two Lets Plays of KoDP, both of which are on the
LP archive which you may read. But try not to bring any outside information in.
There is also a
Wiki. You're free to look at the wiki but not at "events" or "treasures". Because knowing what things do spoils the fun.
Since I am open to so many positions i will take people on a first come first serve basis so long as you meet the requirements and if we fill up with 20 we fill up.
