A Critical Failures Play-by-Post
In the grand setting of the...
The City of Ghosts is at the crux of the war. The empire of Khador presses from the north, while religious zealots travelling to the Protectorate of Menoth's Northern Crusade threaten from the west, along with the pressing fear of the Skorne breaking through the fortress of Ternon Crag. The undead of Cryx roam with other horrors in the Thornwood, and the intrigues of Vinter Raelthorne and his close ally Magnus the Traitor mean that even fellow Cygnarans could be a threat.
Over a hundred and twenty thousand souls live in the city of Corvis, with refugees from the capture of Llael swelling that number even more as they camp upon the swampy outskirts. As profitable as the river junction may be for trading, the city nonetheless sinks slowly deeper into the wet marshland around it, forcing the poor into impossibly squalid conditions, living in sunken streets beneath the earth, eking out a bare existence in the Undercity.
While the Grand Cathedral of Morrow indeed aids the poor and the refugees, and the Corvis University adds more than a little academic stature to the city, some whisper that the curses laid upon the ground that Corvis was built on so long ago are coming to fruition, and one day soon, the city will face a threat great enough to erase it from the maps of Immoren... forever.
Well, that's exciting!
Chains of Corvis is a PbP being run with the Iron Kingdoms Role-Playing Game system, recently released by

Kaelin Bastian
Race: Human (Morridane)
Archetype: Gifted
Careers: Arcane Mechanik / Rifleman
Kaelin is a Llaelan refugee come to Corvis to establish a new life. Since coming to Corvis, Kaelin has made a name for herself as a gifted mechanik - with a talent for unlocking a devices hidden potential. When presented with a device of unknown origin and power, Kaelin feels a drive and desire to figure out what makes it tick. Like the proverbial curious cat, she just can't help herself when present with a mystery cast from iron and steel. She'll poke and prode and peel back the layers until she's figured out a device's purpose and function.
Wren Decklan
Race: Human (Thurian)
Archetype: Gifted
Career: Arcanist / Investigator
Wren is arrogant and egotistical - the smartest person in the room and he knows it. It's unfortunate that he's also quite often right. His keen senses and talent for forensics and deduction make him a formidible investigator. He continues to investigate because he is good at it, likes feeling smarter than everyone else, and to fill the void left by his twin sister's passing. Winn was murder by street thugs when he was still under tutelage at the Fraternal Order of Wizardry. He caught the toughs who killed her, but always felt like there was something he missed all those years ago.
Anton Belisar
Race: Human
Archetype: Skilled
Careers: Pistoleer Thief
Anton Belisar was born in Ceryl, but that's all he really knows. Orphaned young, he quickly found the streets of Ceryl a bastion of possible gains. Always a bit of a loner, he learned early on to watch closely and think quickly. After making a name for himself, perhaps too much of a name, he was politely recruited into the service of his King. It was there he learned the ins and outs of the pistol and what it meant to take the life of another. Perhaps not the best thing to teach someone who already didn't mind taking your purse. After service he found himself in Corvis, a different man, but one still itching for that big find, be it tangible or otherwise.
Edit: Need to rethink Anton. I didn't include one of the investigator guild careers.
Edit 2: New Anton included in a new post below.

Edit: Turns out you can't save the form with data, so it's not really that useful unless you plan to pencil it up all the time. Guess it's back to PowerPoint.
Also, they finally figure out Yoda's Race:
Both are superb combinations. Mage Hunters are iconic for not getting along with people, though. Especially Gifted humans.
edit: Right now honestly the mage hunter is were I am leaning...The major thing is I do not want to ruin the game with it. So would the MH/S or the A/T be a better choice for the setting?

I played a Mage Hunter/Spy in the very first IKRPG game I was ever in. It was an awesome combo, punchy as hell, but roleplaying it well wasn't exactly easy. Still, I shanked a lot of mages, which was really satisfying, and Eiryss, the most iconic example of a Mage Hunter in the entire setting, is more than willing to work for Human Warcasters in order to take an easier shot at others.
So you can take it, but I'll need a solid pitch to accept it. Both characters are very solid for the setting, just a MH isn't the easiest to play.
Settling on Priest/Pistoleer. Agent of the Order of Illumination! ONE TRUTH PREVAILS!

Also thinking Ogrun Military Officer/Duelist--a sort of security officer/bodyguard--but I may change that up a bit.
Now if only I could somehow magically transfer the PDF I was working on to FoxIt... Guess it's copy and paste time!

Syvas Hellith, time is of the essance, Power in the wrong hand will destroy us to the core. Our Way is failing as we know it. Once our gods are dead then so are we. This is what we have been told.
Bah. You make your own path. To react to the problem is not to fix the problem. That is were we come in. Years of training can only take you so far and allow you to get so close. To get the ones that cause the problem sometimes you must work for them to work against them. Kill them with kindness, then when they do not expect it they are yours.
I have my time as I see fit under my god, just as others do. If mine says it is to fight and to find those that would use their powers to kill wrongly, who am I to say no to their timely deaths?

Originally given a special duty to provide protection for a noble's scion as they went on an expedition for the university, repeated exposure to tantalizing snippets of "truth" has slowly turned Alain into a true believer. Though he lacks the academic background to contribute to esoteric studies, Alain's presence is enough to deter the opportunistic types one can meet traveling to or from a remote dig site, and his battlefield experience and grasp of small unit tactics is such that he can turn a group of archaeologists armed with little more than books and large words into a competent defensive force.
Anton Belisar
Race: Human
Archetype: Intellectual
Careers: Pistoleer Alchemist
Anton Belisar was born in Ceryl, but that's all he really knows. Orphaned young, he would often find ways of getting himself into trouble. Most of this was harmless, until we figure out how to combine two substances that resulted in a hole in the Orphanages wall. This attracted the attention of a local alchemist who was in need of an apprentice and he soon found himself learning to harness the power of that first explosion, not to mention a few new things. When he was old enough, he opted to join the King's army, to travel the lands and find more uses for his craft. There he took a liking to the pistol and soon understood all the ins and outs of the weapon. After a few years lacking serious alchemical exploration, he opted to retire from the army and continue his search for new knowledge.

Joline Lovejoy was born in Corvis in the year 588 AR, having witnessed firsthand the invasion of the Skorne and their subsequent repelling at the hands of Alexia Ciannor and the Legion of Lost Souls. She has seen the blasphemous things that Skorne mortitheurgy has done to the city's defenders. She knew the Skorne would eventually be back, and she knew that there were still plenty other evil, occult threats lurking in the shadows. There is, after all, a reason why Corvis is known as the "City of Ghosts". She had to do something when she became of age, so she set off to become a member of the Order of Illumination. It was quickly discovered that Miss Lovejoy possessed the Gift, and was thus given special training and education. In time, she became one of the Illuminated, a full-fledged Witch Hunter in service to the Church of Morrow.

Race: Human (Cygnaran/Llalese)

Careers: Field Mechanik/Warcaster
Bob is a young man thrust into a war that he is not ready for. He was born in Corvis but spent much of his life in Llael, the son of military parents often stationed in neighboring Llael. Bob travelled with the convoys as a lad and learned that he has mechanical aptitude and an uncanny ability to marshal steamjacks. Eager to help out he was accepted as an apprentice in the "Motor Pool" while his folks did their duty. Bob's parents died on the line defending Llael in the Menite invasion. Bob, in the back with the "Motor Pool" heard the news while in full retreat back to Cygnar. He dropped to his knees in grief and wept. Amazingly, all of the labourjacks dropped to their knees as well, mimicking Bob as his Gift manifested itself. Now back in Corvis, a fresh Warcaster with the paint still drying on his ill-fitting armour, Bob struggles to be the hero his countrymen need him to be.
