The fan on my ATI Radeon 9700 has died and my card is overheating and crashing my computer. I've got the side of the case off and a fan blowing directly into it and my system seems to be stable but I really need a new fan for it. I'm hoping someone here can help me find a fan that fits this card.
This is just an addendum but in all honesty this was horribly searchable. All you needed to do was go on Google and type in "VGA cooler 9700" and it's the first result. But I'm not complaining...if it really bugged me I wouldn't have done it.
Newegg should have it for cheaper. I got one for my brother's old 9600 Pro and it worked fine, although there was one complication you should be ready for.
The power connector on the fan (or really any replacement fan) might not match the one on your graphics card. If that happens, you'll need to cut the connector off of your current (broken) fan and splice it to the new one. Should be pretty easy, but be ready for it.
The other option is the Zalman VF700 for about the same price ($25 on Pricegrabber), which also comes with VRAM heatsinks. The newer Silencer style coolers have a better design, where the metal heatsink also covers the RAM chips, but this older one doesn't. If I were you, I'd go with the Zalman.
