I just want them to port this to something else. And not even DS, because something like Final Fantasy requires extended play sessions that a handheld just makes totally fucking annoying.

I'm on the opposite side of that fence. I love them on handhelds because I have to ride an hour into and out of town each day.

Nah. Also, they announced a remake for the PSP of a "Square property", not specifically Final Fantasy.

Wait, they've said the mysterious PSP game is a remake?

Hmm, if that's true then my guess is that it'll be a port of Vagrant Story with all new stuff. FFT is being ported to the PSP, FFTA2 is in development for the DS and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is being developed for the DS too. Vagrant Story being ported to the PSP makes a lot of sense.

Also, add me to the list of people that haven't played the original Final Fantasy. I've got the PS1 version and I'm worried that the load times will be terrible and I won't be able to stand the NES-level graphics. However, I was pretty keen to get it on the GBA as portables seem to hide poor graphics decently well, but now I'll just get the PSP version.

Well, it's not horrible but the leveling system is a little strange. If you want to grind it's more effective to get into a single random battle, gimp the enemies and beat the living hell out of yourself.

It's definately a leveling-system for people who loooove grinding. I understand the concept of having to "train" to get better at something... But the idea of spending hours casting spells that took forever to even start making contact with the enemy... no thanks.

The first time I played it was a month or two ago. It was still pretty enjoyable.

I'd point out that it can't be for nastalgia in the states because we've never had the game outside of FF collections (FF Origins, FF1&2 Dawn of Souls).

Man, there are so many good SNES and PSX square titles that could have remakes. Vagrant Story would be pretty sexy though.

Honestly, if you've never played the first Final Fantasy game, play it on the Nintendo. The GBA version was horrible in comparison. I remember being level 30ish getting to the final dungeon in the original game, and that was with some grinding. The GBA version is a walk in the park, or if you prefer, a simple A button mashing fest, level 60 and haven't even thought about Chaos yet.

Seriously, the GBA remake is basically Final Fantasy 1: Neutered version. I wish there was at least an option for classic style play.
But if you've never played FFI, you wouldn't ever know that the GBA version is easier. I didn't play the NES FFI and I liked the GBA remake. I wouldn't have known it was much easier if people didn't tell me. I liked that I didn't need to grind too much.

Yeah I'm sorry it was unbalanced and not in any way challenging and turned what used to be a pretty damned good title into a whole lot of mashing A over and over again until the fight ends, then wandering around until it's time to do the same thing over again. The remake is just not a good game any more.

The broken aspect to FFII is silly and easily ignored. You don't have to exploit it and the difficulty curve is perfectly reasonable even if you don't exploit the xp system.

Gametrailers and Playsyde have it up as well. Graphically, it looks insanely awesome, easily beating the majority of PS2 titles. Gameplay-wise, I'll need to see more of (though what little there was in the trailer looked fun).

I play portable games all the time, even if I'm not stuck somewhere. Like, I'm still playing Tactics Advance, it's my favorite GBA game ever, and incredibly long to boot.

I know I'm going to play the shit out of Tactics PSP. I don't even own a PSP yet, but I'll have to get one eventually for an updated Tactics.

I've already played through the PSX Tactics three times--probably a total of 150 play hours.

I want to be excited about FF1 and FF2 on PSP, but like someone said before, those screens look like they're from a flash game. Plus, those games are hells of old and I've played them enough already.

I hated the first 5 Final Fantasy games. I enjoyed VI, didn't mind VII (although it's nowhere near as great as everyone says it is), hated VIII and enjoyed IX. X onwards is horse manure.

I will admit though, the graphics on this look luscious and in a perfect world, yes, we'd be looking at an all-new Final Fantasy game featuring graphics like these. But... we can only dream.

I may well rent this'n, but it'd take some serious threatening to get me to part with money for it.

That game is one of the reasons that I got a PSP in the first place (the other being valkarie profile). It better be awesome :rotate:

Back on track to FF1 and 2, while I already own the games like 3 times over at this point, I'll probably buy them again, I'm a consumer whore, especially when the product looks so damn pretty.

    ZOMG Trailer!

Here's the streaming link. If you want to download it, download SDP Downloader and plug that URL into it. It'll download into a nice and tidy wmv file.

It's worth noting that at the end it mentions 'and more' in relation to Final Fantasy and the PSP. FF3-6 (or even 3-9) ports? Me thinks so.

In all seriousness, though, this, along with the Disgaea port and Crisis Core, may finally the impetus I need to add a PSP to the family.

I thought the white mage in the original version was male? If not, then that is one fugly looking person when it gets upgraded to the White Wizard.

Yeah, until you get items that cast spells. Then it is all about abusing those items. I've played all the remakes of FF 1 so far, they are universally too damn easy. When this game shows up in the bargain bin in a year or two, I'll think about it. The FFT remake is far more promising.

Well, you gotta preserve the classics.
