Xenogears just blows them all away though, with it's mixture of Nietzchean and Jungian philosophies, along with the questioning of reality itself and God. Yep..
I think... I think I hate you.

what the hell are you mongoloids doing?
stop arguing opinion as fact on a arbitrary subject then being pretentious about it
But you haven't played all games in existence. Unless you speak japanese, you haven't even played most games in existence. Do you play IF? If not, that's a big fucking chunk of pure philosophy gaming gone right there.
You can espouse Xenogears all you like - I haven't played it, and I'm sure it has a great storyline - just don't go saying something so Goddamn retarded. There are a lot of games out there.
Edit: I apologise for my bad mood, though. Hah.
So you're refuting my argument when you haven't even played the game.
Alrighty then. I'll take this all with a grain of salt.
Well, your argument is that it's "probably the deepest game in existence". If it were that Xenogears is, like, the deepest and most meaningful game you've ever played, that'd be fine. Even if you'd played everything everyone else has mentioned. It's just pretty weird to make such an extravagant, ridiculous, universally exclusive statement.
If Xenogears had been available in the UK when it was released, I would have got it. It's a shame, since it combines all the things I'm into.

Yes, I know it's sort of a given that if you play games, you're a Link fan, but I want to stress that TP Link is my most favorite incarnation of the character, because it's the first time that it felt like he had an actual personality, an actual opinion of things. His expressions told more about his character than any game before it, and it only made me love Link more.
Yes. I like that version the most also. I will probably get stoned for this, but I wouldn't mind Nintendo giving Link even more personality. If they commited to doing a good job, I would actually enjoy voice acting and a Link that spoke. I would still want him to be the strong silent type, but not a mute like he is now. I'm thinking Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke when I picture this in my mind.
Oh god, not the face!
As much as I'm liking Twilight Princess, I've got to say that I think Wind Waker Link had more personality. You could see emotions in his face, and he chose to go on this quest. TP Link was chosen by the goddesses; WW Link saved his sister and then just decided to keep going because it was the right thing to do.
I think TP Link and WW Link both had tons of personality, they just had drastically different personalities.
TP Link was definately more of a teenage boy, and a bit of a cocky ass at times. It was fun to play a Link that was a show-off after he fells his foes instead of just standing there lifelessly :P Overall, TP Link is a good guy, but he's a lot more aggressive, a lot more cocky, and a little less noble than the other Links I think. He probably got way more tail than OoT Link, I tell you what.
WW Link was I agree, the more heroic of the two. He was a sweet little boy who grew into the Hero of Winds. Part of the reason I think I enjoy WW more than TP.
About the Aerith argument I don't really remember the story that well. What does Aerith has to do with Zach? Wasn't Zach the Soldier that Cloud thought he was. And Cloud was Tifa's childhood friend. Imma confused.
I need to find a good overview of the story I don't remember it very well. I don't remember that AT ALL.
Well, the reference was a bit out of the way.
You know that town near the ruined Mako reactor on the second continent? Going there and dicking around in that one house to the south'll get Aeris (or at least the folks inside) talking about it)
And if we're going to get into inanimate vehicles here, then the Timberwolf from the intro to Mechwarrior 2 deserves mention, because god damn did he make for one hell of a show.

Did you even play FFVIII? When did Squall ever whine or bitch at all? Like, once in the entire game? Sure he didn't like a lot of the things he was pretty much forced into but he didn't actually say anything most of the time. To 'bitch' or 'whine', words are required.
Auron as a main character would be pretty god-damn boring btw, especially if you couldn't "listen" to his thoughts like you could with Squall. Auron was my favourite character in FFX (Tidus probably would've been if his voice acting was good) but he worked best as a side character.
Samir Duran Duran: How about you stop the "man, fuck you pussies and your crying! I'm so tough, I don't know how to cry. Because I'm tough... Well, my mum says I'm tough, but that's because I AM tough. Tough as. Emotion's for girls. Crying's for gays. I'm tough. Like Tonka trucks. Tough" talk, hmm? It's a little annoying. And when I say a little annoying, I mean it makes you look like a complete jackass.
So it's just a massive misconception involving almost everyone who played FFVIII that Squall is emo? When he wasn't running out of the room after yelling inane shit because people were mourning someone else, (guess he's selfish too) he was treating everyone to thought bubbles to illustrate that he could in fact make a big deal of everything. And you have no reason to be all mopey when you own a spaceship. Also I did play that entire game (the characters grating the entire time) so I can speak to the issue.
Tonka truck dude: I am sure you didn't read the originally offending post. This is because if you did, you would be too busy renting a mob outfitted with torches to post.
Come on now, crying over goddamn final fantasy? That's indefensible. Although I guess I am a jackass for beating this dead horse, so point there.
So did Vectorman get a mention? He was spectacularly badical. In fact It's a kinda a good thing that new V-man game got cancelled, from a character design standpoint.
kthx, I noticed a lot of Gunther around here, but no love for JC? come on now, he was an extreme badass super killing machine who fought against a purely evil conspiracy to better mankind, plus some of his conversations were really cool, like the ones with Jock and with Paul Denton.
The best jedi in any Star Wars, especially in JK2, half dark, half light, all hero.
I also second Jolee, he was my favorite character in KOTOR for almost the same reason, because he didn't care about light or dark sides, he just wanted to do what was right.
as long as I'm on the live action cutscene tangent
where's this guy? Blair was a great hero for a great series, he was the kind of guy you could look up to, the kind of hero we need more of.
Don't fuck with a man with a sword bigger than his mech, Sanger to me just has this super badass mysterious quality to him that whenever he appears I'm just like, ass kicking will be handed out today.

I've said it in FF threads and I'll say it again, the word 'emo' is bandied around so much it's lost all meaning. If you think Squall is emo then you don't know what the word means.
IMO Squall is a great character. Why? Because I like character development. A majority of FF characters are the same character throughout the entire game, even when the inevitable plot twist hits them. But Squall? He started out as a loner and changed over the course of the game into a great leader.

FF games are usually 60 hours or more, if you don't want to get emotionally invested, why the hell are you playing it? I didn't cry when Aeris died (personally I thought it was done rather poorly), nor did I cry when Tidus died (some asshole spoiled the ending for me before I finished it) but who am I to judge if someone else did?
Because Bazookas don't feel so good when you shoot someone close up? Come on, haven't you used a rocket launcher in, well, any video game?
Also, what he said *points up*
The general purpose of a rocket launcher is ranged warfare. 'Course you're not going to shoot somebody point blank with an explosive weapon.
Anyways, that's off-topic.
But what happens when something manages to get the drop on you? Do you blow your own legs off? No, you hoist that fucker by the torso.
That reminds me, Rico from Killzone deserves a mention (no picture here because photobucket sucks). Why? Because he's angry, he's mexican and he'll be damned if he'll let you forget it.

Killzone: Liberation spoilers:
Well then you'll be happy, at the end of Killzone: Liberation he's taken away by the Helghast as a prisoner. Chances are, in Killzone 2 he'll either be killed by them or they'll mutate him into some crazy Helghast monster and you'll end up killing him.

Edit: Yeah, we need to get back on topic.
Dogmeat because he's the only sidekick worth having in the wastes. Everyone else was just a packmule with a gun.
Finally, Otto Baynes courtesy of New Horizons : Uncharted Waters for the SNES. Just because he kicks ass.

Definite worthy mention.
When he steps through the smoke and lets his Assualt cannon rip, what a great "FUCK YEAH!" moment.
Man, they so totally ripped off Starcraft Dragoons

and
Mina, from Breath of Fire 2. Obscure, maybe, but she just....she just has my heart.
Katt and Nina, also, get my votes. But dammit I love that whole series!
Learn to Imageshack, please!
Which needs a sequel terribly, oh so terribly.

The Yar Ship. Hypnotic.
Kerrigan. Kick ass bitch villian and fun to play.
Sam Fisher. All-American modern day ninja for great justice.
Edge. Final Fantasy ninja. That's like sex on a roller coaster.
Garrett. The stoic prick who made us all go, "A game where you sneak? Righteous!" Sorry about your eye, dude.
King Graham Cracker of Daventry. You owe this medieval Clark Kent. You owe him Big Time.
Frank West. So real and yet so campy. The first time I ever truly felt an artificial being was doing a stellar job acting.
Toe Jam and Earl. Funky fresh and original.
Lady from DMC3.
How can you not love her, she is just so adorable
And Irm is just too cool.
