Welcome to the Nintendo 3DS thread!
This is the thread for general 3DS discussion. To keep the conversation from getting too busy, try to look for other threads before posting about something in here. For example, the
eShop Thread is a good place to talk about Nintendo digital store. Big game releases like Mario Kart or Zelda also tend to have their own threads. There's no hard rule against discussing those games in here, but this is a nice place to talk about smaller titles that would be unable to sustain their own threads, and obviously those larger games can easily crowd everyone else out. Finally, don't be discouraged from making game-specific threads if you feel it warrants attention. This is sort of a catch-all thread.

Free games via Club Nintendo:
Nintendo is now allowing players to buy download games for their Wii, DSi, and 3DS via the Club Nintendo website. All first party games, and some third party titles, offer codes that you can enter on the official Nintendo website. Fill out a survey and earn coins (and an additional follow-up survey for extra coins). The coins can buy a variety of posters, cases, and various neat stuff. But the games are where it's at. Every month, Nintendo is offering up four games to download.
Featured Applications:
Nintendo Video: A free download app that randomly adds short 3D movies to watch. Blue Man Group, College Humor, and Dreamworks have all contributed.
SwapNote: A free download app that allows you to send notes, pics, and sound clips to friends via Street Pass or Spot Pass.
Netflix: Link your account to your 3DS to watch (2d) movies on the small screen.
Hulu Plus: Just like Netflix, link your account to watch TV shows on the go.
3D movie recording: Record up to 10 minutes of 3D footage and upload it to youtube.
Game demos: Download demos of upcoming 3DS releases.
System Transfer: Transfer information from an existing DS, DSi, or 3DS to a 3DS. Great for when the inevitable redesign hits the scene.

I picked up MH and finally started it this morning. It really needs to have a way to play online for the 3DS. Not only do I know no one with the game, but in have no friends with 3DSs. It sucks. Maybe someday I will get lucky and meet someone who loves handhelds the way I do.
Also, thanks to whoever started conversation in the last thread about bags to carry your stuff in and was responsible for bring to light, or at leastmy attention, the swiss gear vertical ttravel bag: you are awesome. And I thank you. I found one at target which said it didn't have any in stock. Itwas hIDing and I got the last one. Anyways, it really is an awesome bag(satchel?) And I am grateful for whoever is responsible. Thanks.

I ended up getting a different bag, but my search for the vertical travel bag led me there! So, uh, thanks, whoever it was!

Yes please. Hopefully it'll keep the feel of the console games.

Wait what, new Arkham game? Holy shit, yes!
I'll definitely be getting the "main" version (likely on the Wii U, which I'll hopefully own till then), not sure if I'm gonna be picking up the 3DS version.
Heck Yes!
Me too, this news has excited me to my core. I may faint...

Super Mario 3D Land - I haven't played it yet myself, but everyone says it's excellent. And..come on. It's a Mario game.
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. Also, Virtue's Last Reward for a more story-driven puzzle game, although you should play 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for the DS first.
Fire Emblem: Awakening - I've only played the demo so far, but supposedly it is considered by many to be the best entry in the series, and that's saying something since we're talking about Fire Emblem here.
Edit: daaaaamn yooouuu carmofin! *shakes fist*
Yes, it spurred a little search as I tried to find an appropriate 3DS XL case. I ended up going to Etsy to find something a little more uncommon!
You can put a bunch of smaller eShop-only games on there. It's when you start downloading full games that 4gb goes quick.
A full retail game usually has around 1GB, if that helps. Personally I went with 16 GB and that seems to be about perfect currently.

Depends on what you're doing with it, I guess. Staying at home with no chance of drops? Probably not necessary.

Personally home is where mine is the least safe
Get Pushmo. It's an eShop title. Get Pushmo. I suppose it is less in vogue right now because "bigger" puzzle games have come out with stories and such, but I personally think Pushmo is where it's at.
Also, in case it wasn't obvious, and in the event that you like sending and receiving inconsequential doodles, download Swapnote.
Let's Plays of Japanese Games
Thanks for the suggestions everybody. Also, did you know that when you buy a new 3ds xl and Luigi's mansion you get a free game download? The options are Freaky Farms, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Super Mario 3d Land, Star Fox 64 3d, and Art academy. That is pretty awesome.
A case would be nice for carrying around the games. I'll probably use the system for a week, and then decide whether or not I need the case.
I just got Mario 3D Land again with the free game promo. I sold it mid year and regretted it pretty quick. This promo was timed well with my decision to pick up an XL.
Get Witch's Cat.
Seriously. Get Witch's Cat. It's an adorably fun and charming little puzzle-platform game along similar designs as Solomon's key. It's quite challenging as well, some of the levels require you to think pretty far outside the box.
It's also obscure as all hell, even though it's on the eShop.

Portability doesn't even factor into it, it's just a great gaming system. I play mine at home all the time, to the exclusion of platforms with better graphics.
