Similarly, not including GB and GBC compatibility in the DS.
Also, not allowing me to use the DS as a GBA for FF:CC and Zelda: Four Swords Adventures.

I remember when the DS first came out, there was a hardware hack that would allow you to run GB and GBC games. The CPU had the same z80 emulation as the GBA and could run the games, but the slot wasn't wired for the higher voltage to run them. Not sure if it works with newer DS units, though.

Really, how much BC do you need? A Game Boy Color or GBA are cheap now, you have to cut the strings sometime.

I just kind of assumed it would be there since the DS is marketed as GBA compatible and the GBA is marketed as GB/C compatible. Seemed like a no-brainer to me.

I've got a Game Boy Player on my Cube anyway, but like I said, it's the lack of "4SA and FF:CC compatible" that gets me.
But the DS uses a GBA-compatible CPU, so GBA compatability was kind of a freebie. GBC on the other hand, requires a GBC chipset (the GBA has a switch that GB/C carts push to switch hardware internally). How long can Nintendo continue to make origina; "1989" GB-compatible CPUs? Even the GB micro stopped including it.

I find this amusing more because I thought the DS was BC all the way back to GB/GBC but never actually tried it since most of the games I play are GBA.

They wont fit because the switch a GB/C cart would push is now a fixed key to block the cart from inserting. This is the reason why GB/C emulators exist on GBA homebrew carts, though some weirdos made them before the GB micro/NDS were made (technical muscle-flexing?).

    What game is that, Lave?

Crackdown. I read lots of reviews and I never saw it mentioned. Which is terrible!

Aparantly in future sci-fi america you can go back in time to join the british armed forces. Immersion++

And it goes online to keep fetching new ones. But hey, what with production costs rising they've got to keep costs down somehow.
Oh wait the RRP of games has risen by 20% to £50 ($100) as well.

    Not acceptable.

I think it's kinda fun in a geeky way to push the GB/C switch with a toothpick while turning the GBA on and off.

    *flick* "Now it's a GBA..."
    *flick" "...now it's a GBC!"
    "Oh no! Wait..."
    *flick* "Now it's a GBA!"

    I am easily amused.

Recommended retail is 50 pounds in UK now? good lord.

I'd peg it closer to $80 than $100.

Lave: We pay a premium for our 360 games too... Collector's Edition's on XBOX 360 go for $70 normally ($60 non-CE) and Halo Legendary Edition is setting a new bar (was expected to be $130, now $150!)

'Recommended retail is 50 pounds in UK now? good lord.'

It's been that way with 360 games a good while - but no one in their right mind is actually paying that much. I had crackdown for 37 (yeah, still a lot, but a bit more palatable than 50 ;))

To be fair last gen RRP used to be £35 (with a £30 - £40 range).
Now the Wii has stated that its sticking to £35 (but retailers often push it higher as they can).
The PS3 is sticking at £40 - which to me is a huge deal people overlook when comparing to the Xbox with its £45-£50 prices.

Thats why I'm so pissed with adverts. They are bleeding us dry!

    EDIT:

according to xe.com £50 is $98.30 - your money is pretty weak at the moment.

Ah ok. I assume you still pay tax on top of that too? MS prices are insane over there... since when was Sony the more reasonable one lol.

we don't add tax. It's included. So that makes it better.

But it still holds that a >20% increase in price should exclude the need for adverts in games.

So my unwanted tech would be Massive's ad models. You should read some of the shit Massive (the main company trying to 'exploit' this 'resource') want your machine to be able to do: ping ever time your avatar looks at an ad. How long you look. Bill a data base to hone your likes and dislikes.

It's a rape of passtime. level designers will be more bothered with the placement of ads than exciting level design. I'm my avatar when I think of the future.

EDIT: Just taken this from Massive's website:
By aggregating the largest audience of gamers and providing real time delivery of advertising across top-selling video games, we can provide publishers and developers
$1–$2 profit per unit shipped for their titles.

Please - pass that cost on to me - and keep it out of my game.

Ah okay, not as bad as I thought, I thought that was pre-VAT since RRP is usually given w/o sales tax in the US. Still though, if you are getting ad revenue, lower the damn price!

Ad revenue never lowers the price. Otherwise as adverts have increased on cable your price has gone down right?

    Oh.

Oh fuck. Wow. Sorry I've derailed the thread a little - but online dynamic ads count as 'tech' in my eyes.

    I've just found this

It's offical. Microsoft (who pushed for the RRP of £50) fucking bought massive. Clearly to push adverts onto their Xbox.

Oh fuck you Microsoft. Just when you were winning me over. Fucking hell. All this games as Art shit and then they do this.
