--Multiplayer is not needed in every franchise ever. Resources that could have been invested in the singleplayer have instead been invested into an MP mode that is most likely going to be mediocre at best, and most likely awful
True, but it's better they take a chance than never attempt it. People said the same about Uncharted and Assassin's Creed. Uncharted 2 and Brotherhood both had great MP, and both were easy to ignore if you wanted to. They both also had the best single-player campaigns of their respective franchises.
Also, Splash Damage is working on this, a company known for working on shooters. Would you have liked to see their resources used on this?
--Not made by Rocksteady
It's not, no, but I'm not worried. Why? Because this is pretty much it for Warner Bros. Interactive. Their big franchises are Mortal Kombat, Batman and Lego. They don't have their hands in a ton of franchises, so everything they do needs to stick. Speaking from a business sense, I can't see them putting the series in the hands of people that would fuck it up.
--Combat system has been altered so that WB Montreal can put "their own spin on it." They have said that they want this to feel like their game, and not just a Rocksteady clone. That frightens me.
What more was there to do? Arkham City was filled to the brim with things you could do in the current style of combat, to the point where it had become too easy with many things that break the system (like bat swarm and ultra-slow-down-time-freeflow-whatever that was called)
I want new challenges in the gameplay, I want them to take a couple risks. It's odd to claim sequel fatigue but then want them to churn out the exact same product.
--No Kevin Conroy
Thank fucking Christ. He's not the only Batman around - DC animated films have gone off of using him for a while now, bringing in new people constantly. Jeremy Sisto, Bruce Greenwood, Ben McKenzie - it was nice to hear different approaches, some of those I really loved. There is more than one voice actor around than Kevin Conroy, and Batman could use a change-up. And Roger Craig Smith is fucking fantastic. If anything, I'm a little bummed that Troy Baker is channeling Mark Hamill so hard.
--Sequel-itis. WB seems to have decided to milk the Arkham franchise. I don't need a new Batman every year. There's no way they can keep the quality up.
For starters, it's every two years, not one. And Call of Duty, as much as people love to shit on it because there is one every year, absolutely keeps the quality up. The game quality didn't go down. Some people simply got bored.
--Did I mention multiplayer? Because goddamn that scares me. Fastest way to drive me away from a beloved singleplayer franchise is to announce the inclusion of an unnecessary multiplayer mode.[/spoiler]
It's not unnecessary if it's good.

@morninglord do you have any tips for defeating Victor in game+ on hard? I'm tying to finish up my game+ before Origins and am stuck there. I'd welcome tips from anyone but Morninlord writes some of the best mechanic breakdowns I've read.
Sure. I'm a little sleep deprived right now so this may be a bit rambly.
First up you know the upgrades menu? Go to the stealth section and look at all of them and how they are meant to be triggered. After you hit him with one he will disabled it's use or adapt to it so keep that in mind when you are using them on him. For example, if you leap at him off a guard rail he will freeze all the guard rails. This means you can't pull him over the guard rail from below or do the door takedown. You are better off dropping on him from something else.
So you have to think carefully about the order in which you plan to hit him with these or you will cut yourself off from options unnecessarily and make things harder.
I'm going to assume you know how to (or soon will if you don't) do all the takedowns so lets move onto the most important part of the fight: manipulating freeze to go where you want him to go in order to hit him with a takedown.
When he sees you disappear around a corner Freeze will move to your last known location and then track you via your footprints (the heat left behind, basically). Once he's started following your footprints he will stick to them like an ant no matter how you twist or turn. If you do a circle, he'll do a circle too. You can use this to make him fall into your traps as long as you don't let him see you or break the trail by grappling or climbing, in which case he'll send out drones to find you and toss grenades at you across the map.
Example: the little enclosed area with the window, two doors and breakable ceiling. Go in one door then make your trail go against the inside of the window then go back out the other door once he has gone in the first one and stealth around to the outside of the window. He'll tramp past the inside of the window and you can do the window takedown. You can also do this backwards (ie lead him past the outside and pull him in, but I find it easier to get away if you pull him from the outside) and do it for the explosive walls too. Ditto for setting up ledge takedowns or door takedowns, put your trail against the ledge above or below, stealth around to the right place and wait for him to walk by.
A little known thing about this map is the puddle of water in the center that has a switch on the wall near it. Make freeze go through this water then toss a batarang at the switch, it'll electrocute him and give you a free takedown. Another one is the interactible radiator looking things you can shoot with your shock gun that pull weapons out of peoples hands and etc.
When it comes to leaping on him from above, he doesn't directly counter the leap. Instead he freezes whatever you leapt from. This means you can leap onto him multiple times if you change up how you do it. You can leap from a gargoyle, from a ledge (I don't recommend that), from one of the obstacles and from your wire thingy. Be careful with that because he will hear the "click" the wire gadget makes when the fires hit the wall the first time (he'll make a comment). I have not done it twice to find out what he does to you if he hears it again.
Try to save gliding for later because he can freeze the air and cut off your gliding which is a real pain in the ass. Also remember those glass ceilings: lead him under them then do a takedown through it from above.
If you leave detective vision on all the time he will jam it. You can counter this by flicking it on whenever you've completely lost him and then turning it off again once you know where he is. If you are leading him around on the ground you don't really need it because you know what he is going to be doing next: following your trail.
After you have done a takedown, don't grapple away from him. Sprint away from him instead on the ground and get out of sight. If you grapple he may 1) freeze the grapple points rendering one of your oh shit escapes useless when you really need it and 2). send out drones to find you and then shoot grenades at you. By sprinting away from him on the ground he will usually immediately start following your trail again. You want to sprint though, cos he gets up pretty quickly. Once you are out of sight, stealth.
Also, use the trail to make him look the way you want him too. I can't think of a simple way to explain what I mean by this, but he wont ever turn around unexpectedly unless he has lost your trail because you left the ground at some point, so you can do a quick circuit around a box or something if he's too close for comfort to create an opening to sneak past him when his back is turned.
So, since I don't trust myself not to have rambled all over the place and can't really be bothered proof reading I'll sum up.
1). Think carefully about the order of the takedowns you plan to use on him.
2). Stay on the ground instead of grappling all over the place so you can give him an unbroken trail to follow because he will follow that shit all day no worries.
3). Use the trail to lead him into all the more difficult to set up traps and takedowns and leave the really easy ones for last.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
I was under the impression that if you had the game at all, you could get a Steam version since they switched the DRM over.
Anyway, it seems like the pre-load is working properly. Of course, it turns out that one of the EBay codes I bought was bogus, which is incredibly disheartening as it was for a friend and I only found out once he tried to redeem it. Fired off some e-mails/ebay-mails but I don't have my hopes up very high. Hopefully I can at least get my money back.

that 17 min video pretty much put any doubts I had to bed. Definitely an arkham game
What are the chances of a next-gen GOTY edition of Origins in 8-10 months?
I honestly cannot justify a purchase of this right now, given how close we are to next gen, and add the fact that I still haven't finished GTA5. I just have too many reservations about this game for it to be a day 1 purchase.
My list of reservations:
--Multiplayer is not needed in every franchise ever. Resources that could have been invested in the singleplayer have instead been invested into an MP mode that is most likely going to be mediocre at best, and most likely awful
--Not made by Rocksteady
--Combat system has been altered so that WB Montreal can put "their own spin on it." They have said that they want this to feel like their game, and not just a Rocksteady clone. That frightens me.

I'm hopeful about the multiplayer. I was nervous about multiplayer in Mass Effect 3, and that turned out amazing. Maybe my favorite bit of multiplayer throughout this console generation. If Batman can do that again I'll be one happy camper.
Because he's the Goddamn Batman and can do whatever the hell he wants! :P

I'm a bit embarrassed about this since it shows I really haven't been paying full attention to peoples posts lately, but I had no idea the PC version was coming out the same day as the consoles. Pretty happy about that.

So how are people playing Arkham City with GFWL removed? Because I just booted it up, and it's still in there. Isn't it supposed to be patched out by now?

If you have it in steam the base game stays GFWL but the GOTY gets added to your library and it doesn't have GFWL.

THAAAT'S what was getting me. Already had the Steam versions, and the category I put Batgames in is way up at the top. I see the GOTY versions now, thanks.
EDIT: But apparently you can't use your old saves without some stupid workarounds? GFWL, is there anything you can't fuck up?
Way to be uneccesarily antagonistic towards a very clearly marked and tagged spoiler that was posted because hey, maybe some people would want to talk about it.
If you are not interested in knowing what is behind it then you can simply not click on that carefully used tag and maybe back off on being a goose.
Now, for those of you who would like to talk about the ending:
I don't think it's bad so much as it's boring and uninspired. I wasn't expecting much more than a simple story about bad guys trying to kill Batman, and I'm not sure if it needed to be anything more than that. I don't think they needed to have some sort of twist. I was perfectly ready and willing to just have this be a very traditional Batman vs. supervillains thing.
Sure, that may not be all that interesting compared to the premise of AC or even AA, but this twist doesn't do anything to make it more interesting. It's just dull. Joker is the mastermind. Whoopie.
I love Joker. He was great in the last two games. But he doesn't have to always be the bad guy. Batman has so many great villains. Black Mask himself can be very entertaining when written well.
However, truthfully, I have always approached this game as a filler game in the series. I am expecting to have a good time with it, but was never excited for it in the same way I was excited for the last two. This is the game that gives me the chance to do some badass Batman stuff again until the inevitable third Rocksteady-made game. I am a bit disappointed by the direction they have taken the ending here, but it's not really enough to sour me on the game.
I just find it weird how people obsess over endings. Especially in games, it's like 5% of the game, and even then out of context and without seeing its execution and build up its pointless to say "oh that's a good ending" or "that sucks". Unless it's heinously bad like batman goes back to his home planet.
A story is more than its ending. Especially 10-20 hour story lines.
I would like you to explain to me how I did anything wrong.
How I deserve to be piled on with this weird self-righteous attitude.
I did not ruin anything for anyone. I politely tagged some leaked spoilers innocently thinking some people might be interested in them. I did not force spoilers on anyone, did not spoil anything irresponsibly.
Some people like spoilers. Some people like talking about them. Just because you do not does not mean that people who do should be shamed and needlessly antagonized.
Over in SE someone posted them and then we had a civil discussion about them. Apparently I was foolish to think there might be people in G&T who would enjoy doing the same.
Goddamnit. I went to report the post and I saw the spoiler anyway.
Oh well. That still seems kinda alright. I was never super blown away by the storylines in the games anyway.
What were you going to report me for?
I would like to know what rule I broke that the hundreds of posters in various threads about various things that talk about leaked spoilers didn't break.
It's not like you posted interesting news. Some goose felt it their duty to use an early review (or stolen) copy to mock an ending no one else has seen yet. Then, further gooseness spreads that information to all corners of the net because "some people enjoy knowing the endings of stories they haven't read the first page of"? The name for those people would not be "story enthusiasts".
