Causes and Solutions to Wavebird Interference

So I've been playing a lot of Baten Kaitos on the Wii, and I've been having problems with my Wavebird that I've never encountered when using it with a Gamecube. Every once in a while - say once an hour - my controls go all stuttery. If I'm walking in a line I start stuttering, and selecting Magnus spirit numbers becomes nearly impossible. It soon goes away, or if I flick the Wavebird on and off it fixes it.

Now, where my Wii is located, I can't see the Wavebird reciever but AFAIK thats fine.

I've switched the batteries, but both the first set and the replacement are some rechargeables that might be sketchy. Hard to say. The battery light on the Wavebirds is not dimming which IIRC is what happened back in the day when I used these a lot and they started dying.

So, in general, what frequency does this RF work on, and what sort of shit might be fucking with the signal? Is this somehow connected with the wife on the phone or my sister in law popping microwave popcorn? I'm not sure how to properly diagnose and resolve this obnoxious scenario.

I seem to recall that the early wavebirds were 900MhZ, but were later switched to 2.4GhZ (something people here on the forums were bitching about quite loudly).

    Change channels on the controller/dongle?

Oh. Good point. I've tried three channels so far.

So, any way for me to ID the ones I have as to frequency? And wouldn't the Wiis wireless internet interfere with a 2.4GHz receiver?

Also, if you have them in your house, cordless phones usually operate on the 2.4 GHz frequencies. Cell phones too.

It should say it somewhere on the controller. I forget exactly where, but it should be visible.

This JUST started happening to me too. When I was trying to play Metroid Prime 2 for the first time. It made scanning stuff a little bit hard. And by a little bit hard I mean almost impossible.

It was more frequent for me, though. I had, at most, about two minutes of stutter-free gameplay before it happened for at least a few seconds, usually longer.

Edit: I'm using rechargeables too. They used to work fine, but they could be on their way out and this is their way of showing it.
