The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I broke my Verizon cell phone the other day and rather than pay full price for a new phone I think I'd rather just pick up a used one on ebay. I'm not sure what the guidelines are for which cell phones work with which carriers. Can I buy any phone and it work on Verizon's network?
In the UK I just tend to get the guy in the market to do it. Although Virgin did it for me when I emailed them and asked them to (lovely customer service, shame about the total lack of reception in my house).
Yeah, just look for one on ebay. The one's with verizon written all around it in the postings will work. You can either phone activate or take it to verizon to get it activated. If you dont have backup assistant, they can also transfer your phone book for you
"Unlocked phones" have no bearing on the topic at the end of the day. Verizon will only accept Verizon phones. You will have to buy a used Verizon phone or maybe a NIB Verizon phone but those are your only options.
Cingular and T-Mobile can work with an "unlocked phone". For example I imported a Vodafone labeled HTC Tytn and I use T-Mobile. I could use Cingular if I choose but Verizon never, because they don't use GSM.

Ah thanks. Verizon has such a shit selection of phones none of the new ones look any good. Cingular has a wider selection of phones but I've always had better luck with Verizon's service (also it's cheaper for me).
I will agree their service is good. They had no phones I could travel with and use overseas so I had to move away from them. Their Pocket PC selection is pretty hopeless, and that envy thing is hideous.

The American market is quite different though...
