It's actually 11, that's my bad. The party officially lasts for 3 hours, 8-11. When the party ends we no longer get free food and the space isn't exclusive anymore, meaning randos can walk up and play pool or whatever. But effectively that doesn't change much, and people routinely close the place out.

Ah, the whole thing is an hour off on eventbrite then, it says 2100-0000 as opposed to the (apparently) correct 2000-2300

As far as everyone is aware, this party is still all ages right? I'm three shy from 18, and I'd like to secure a ticket soon for the party.

Edit: Great way to make an introduction... by missing the post saying it was all ages, just disregard this, sorry.

I just got an e-mail about this, and man, I so wish I was going to PAX. I've just been busy with school always starting at the same time of year and not being able to swing it. 2009 was the first year for this Post-PAX Party and the last year I was able to go to PAX at all. Unfortunately I also got sick the last day of PAX 2009 and instead of hanging out at the party I had bought a ticket for, stumbled to a bus stop to get back to the hotel and crash.

Glad to hear things have only gotten bigger and more awesome in the last few years and that you are still running this. I'd tell you guys to have fun, but that would be pointless, I already know you all will.

Enjoying some Jonny Nero today at work, made me think of the party. PAX IS COMING! :)

Fuck yeah, Klopenflop! That guy is a really underappreciated rapper. Good to see Danimal and Johnny there too. :D I need to look up A_Rival when I get home though. I'm not familiar with their (his/her?) work.

A_Rival is a pretty big name in the chip scene, he recently became a Seattle-local, and he actually really wanted to play at the party last year, so we figured it was kind of a no-brainer to ask him. Definitely check out his bandcamp page.
Same with Klopfenpop; people wanted to see him, and he could definitely use some more exposure.

    Hey all,

Ticket sales have slowed pretty dramatically. I don't think it's a cause for concern yet, but it's definitely slower than any other year I've done this.

As has always been the case with this party, no one's fronting the cost. We take the entire cost of the party, divide it by X number of tickets, and that's the price per ticket. If we don't sell them all, either a) we have to make the party cost less by cutting things like menu items, bands, drink tickets, etc or b) we don't do the party at all. No one's footing an unequal share of the bill.

It falls on everyone to signal boost and get the word out. Make sure your friends are coming, RT the link, post on Facebook, etc. We still have about 200 tickets to sell in the next month.

    Signal boost, plz! <3

I'm having trouble deciding whether to grab tickets to this or not. This will be the first year I've tried to attend as many PAX forum events as I can (in the past, I've attended none) and so I'm leaning towards a strong maybe. Can anyone give me advice on what this party is like? Also, what is it up against? Meaning, what other Monday night shenanigans are bound to rear their head that also might be fun to go to, but conflict with the party advertised in this thread?

    Thanks for the help!

    :)

To my knowledge--unless you're part of the clean-up crew for anything or Enforcer--this is the last known party. It was my first time going last year and I thought it was going to be a "meh" kind of thing. Find a good set of friends (at the bar, over at the gaming area, wherevers) and you are gold for the rest of the night. I had a blast with the small group of folks I found and I stayed until we needed to leave.

As for the party itself...if you can remember high school where you see a person blend in with the cliques no matter which clique it is. You are that person when it comes to this event. No one is singled-out and you can always find a friend (old or new) in the areas.

Pretty much what CaptainTapole said. It's definitely better if you have some friends to tag along with you, but even going alone, you're bound to have fun.
The only other thing happening that night is a Protomen show at El Corazon. But who want's to see them outside of PAX anyway? They're a bunch of jerks who steal peoples' chairs and then book shows during your shows to try and ruin you.
    So... yeah... :P

Huh, they hadn't done a mailer about that so I had no idea. Fuck, this will be the first PAX Protoshow I've ever missed. I feel like I'm about to cause some sort of Warp Storm by breaking my multi-year streak. I even flew down to see their Vancouver show with Tenacious D. >_>

Yeah, PAX events are awesome like that. You're pretty much guaranteed to find people to hang out with, even if you don't know anyone. I've made a lot of really good friends over the years just because PAX bros and broettes are the best bros and broettes.

I'll have to do that. I always dig on checking out acts I haven't heard of. I don't follow the chiptune scene as much as I honestly should.

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure they've even announced it publicly yet, but Murphey let us know about it.

Murphy was actually very apologetic when I saw him at Slim's in San Francisco last night (ugh, my body). He really wanted to play this party, but he had arrangements with El Corazon in the works already and Monday isn't the standard day.

This party is pretty great. It's a lot of familiar faces, a very relaxed atmosphere, lots of different varieties of fun... it's just a great way to end the trip. I really had no idea what I was putting together when I started, and really, the party has taken on a life of its own because of people's preferences. In the beginning it was supposed to be a sit-down dinner, but that pretty quickly changed.

I love doing it. I'm going to continue to do it for the foreseeable future. :)

^ Depending on the border wait I'd say the drive is roughly 2.5 hours - 3 hours (keep in mind when I did it w/ my friend we left Seattle & Vancouver at non rush hour times so thats not accounting for any extra traffic).

Then it really depends what the border is like, sometimes you can go straight on through & others you have a decent wait time but seeing as its a wedsnesday I could see the border being relatively quiet

    Oh my goodness

  • ColdbrewColdbrew Down in Front Productions Lake Stevens, WARegistered User regular
Uh yeah pretty much what he^ said. I've only been through that border crossing once, and that was like 7 years ago, but the wait was around an hour I think. Then again, on a week-day, I don't imagine it being that bad. The drive itself from Seattle is probably around 2 hours to the border, and Vancouver isn't much farther.

I dunno, if ya got the time to kill and money to spend on gas and whatever else, then go for it.
Just remember that you need a passport to cross the border now. Unless you're a WA state resident and have an enhanced ID like I do.

Yeah, I've got one. I went to Vancouver to see Tenacious D and The Protomen last year. :D I dunno how adventurous I'm feeling about driving back from a Protoshow during the middle of the night though, especially with Thursday being the Dinner, the TWDT, and when I meet up with a bunch of MWO PA bros.

I'll do what I can but no one I know could secure passes this year. Any chance this will be cancelled if tickets don't sell enough? I wouldn't mind even pitching in an extra $10 or so per ticket if it's needed.

I doubt it, we'll find a way to make it work. One of our musical guests is traveling a good distance to be out here and is relying on this to help pay for his trip, so the idea of us not being to come through with that is unacceptable for me. So I wouldn't worry about it, we'll do whatever we can to work it out if it comes down to it. It doesn't help there's two other shows/parties on the same night that are giving us competition. Pretty good competition too...

Honestly I think the worst case scenario is that we have to pull some from the raffle fund. But that will be up to Arco.

To those of you who have purchased tickets, thank you. You know that whatever happens, it will still be a super fun party!

    Hey all,

Ticket sales are still sluggish, so I appreciate any signal boosting y'all are doing. I've seen lots of retweets and I appreciate all of them.

I've spoken with the venue and they've assured me that we can still throw the party with reduced numbers. We're well above the minimum number of people required for the top floor, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Less people does mean less fun, and a smaller raffle pool, so we should still be spreading the word and driving ticket sales. (Or, an alternate theory is that people could donate to the raffle pool and a smaller party means better odds. Still, though. :P)

Thanks, everyone! Be seeing you in a few short weeks! <3

Yea, we're also flying out early on Monday. I did go to this last year and had a lot of fun, especially in the arcade area! So if anyone is on the fence about it, stop contemplating and just buy the ticket!

Do donations count towards the cost of throwing the party? Or does it go solely to the raffle?
