Looking for gaming people in louisiana

Whistling BardWhistling Bard Registered User regular
This may seem like a weird thing to post on a forum for a company based in Seattle, but I've been having a hard time finding people in the Lafayette area. Maybe I just don't know enough people, maybe I could be better connected, but we don't have a good hangout game store anymore, and I can't find so much as a "leave your name number here" board to start really looking. I hoping that someone from the area happens to read these forums and can give me something to start with. It may be a long shot, but desperate times and all that. Other than that, any advice on a plan of action would be awesome.

Have you tried meetup or craigslist?

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn

last time i checked meetup there was one group who hadn't done anything in months, and I'm wary of craigslist in the best of circumstances.

Craiglist doesn't magically turn people into creeps, a gaming group on Craigslist isn't going to be any weirder than any other gaming group.

Meh I'll check, worst case scenario losing a kidney to the black market, if nothing else, will make a good story for later.

What are you looking to play?
You might check the official site for your game of choice and see if their's anyone in your area playing.

For example, I did a search for Louisiana on the Privateer Press board, and found this post. It's a year old, however the important part is they mentioned a facebook group called "Wargamers of Lafayette". A quick search on FaceBook for that group turned up this group. Might be a good place to start.
If nothing else, that FB names a game store (And Books Too), which leads to another FaceBook page. I don't know the area, but if you're looking for a game group, a game store's as good a place as any to start looking.

Otherwise, chances are pretty good that someone on these forums is in your area and will be able to point you in the right direction based on more than google searches.

The game store they mention is mostly for warhammer, MTG and comics. I've personally never seen a tabletop group playing there ever, and their selection of tabletop stuff is pretty bad, the local book-a-million has better selection. Mostly looking for tabletop rpg, i don't do the miniature gaming like i used to, i have the time, but not the money.

Check out Critical Failures on this forum -- specifically but not only this thread. There may or may not be people who play tabletop RPGs there who are also from your area, but there are lots of forum games running and you might get lucky. At the very least they're good people and whatnot.

Wow, yea it's a 100 miles to the nearest store with a entry for D&D on Wizards site. Normally nowhere near that bad.

    Maybe check local colleges?

Other than that, you said there was only a dead group on meetup....start one. Can't find any flyers about looking for a game....put one up. It sucks but it may be your only option.

    Nod. Get treat. PSN: Quippish

Acquaintance of mine gave me a place to start finally, apparently there is a group who plays CCGs on sat that is mostly comprised of rpg people, thanks for the help everyone and the starting a group is still a good idea if this all pans out, help people in the future.
