It's been my experience that academic references take foreeeever. I've had to harass former professors quite a few times before they follow through. Don't sweat it too much!

This. Be polite, but persistent. It works wonders.

Oh thank GOD, I was worrying cause I'm daft. You two are the best, thank you!!

Girl you ain't daft and you know it.

But for reals, academia is harrowing and relentless. Sometimes professors don't get the spare minutes necessary to do reference letters until major semesterly/quarterly hurdles are surmounted, like midterms and exams and stuff.

And sometimes they also just forget. They're only human, and are thus easily flustered and bamboozled.

It was his way of saying that he agreed with me and that the other people should, in fact, let my ideas flow through them.

Sadly it's now a shitty joke because it had to get all Buckley'd.

I came into work dreading that I was going to be fired. There has been some major tension between high-level managers, and I was being dragged in the middle. I think things have be smoothed out, but I'd rather just get unemployment than fight this much longer. It sucks to be in a place where the main manager wants your boss fired, but for reasons, can't touch him.

If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing

Yes. Library Specialist jobs posted. I have to be the first one to apply. It pays $18 an hour. That will do nicely until I can get a full time spot.

Also the the director and both assistant directors were leaving a program today and from across the room one of the assistant directors waved and said hi to me by name. It actually spooked me.

I am stuck in Michigan and would like to go home now.

Michigan isn't so bad, wait, yes it is. And I say that as one of the fortunate Michiganders that has solid employment.

I wouldn't be as upset if I hadn't spent all of yesterday sitting on my ass waiting for the weather to clear up and then half of this morning sitting on my ass waiting for the weather to clear up. FUCKING JUST LET ME TAKE MY DATA ALREADY GOD DAMN IT

Oh yeah, the weather here is just a big joke. I have seen 70 and sunny, 40 and rainy, and 25 and snowing all in the same day.

I say this with as much respect as I can muster, but this state can eat the biggest, fattest, greasiest bag of dicks available. I would be quite happy to never step foot in it again. Unfortunately it appears these weather delays will require me to return next week.

I must be spoiled and rich and lounging on my acres of land and piles of $100 bills

but I can not even imagine trying to survive on 37k a year. Like I know I've made plans to survive on even less in worst-case-scenarios. But I can't imagine that level of income being what I expect or hope for.

I'm just so removed from that concept, it's startling.

you cant do that dan that isn't how we've always done it

    change it back

I can't wait to hear the feedback from our customer service guys.

When I turned on notifications for UPS shipments, one said his average support call volume dropped by over half, because they were all 'can I get a tracking number for my order?' type questions. (And then they'd read aloud to the person a 13-character long UPS tracking number, usually at least twice to make sure they got it right.)

What's awesome about this new software is that it's basically the high-end version of the same software that handles our UPS shipping, and eventually we'll migrate the small parcel over to it as well, so it can all be processed from the same interface, and it includes some awesome new add-ons like line-item details in the notifications, so it can even act like an order confirmation or ASN for some of our fancier customers.

It even includes a PDF attachment with a copy of the Bill of Lading, so the customer can match it to what the carrier drops off. We could, in theory, even white label the notification because it has a template/rules engine, so it could be like IF CUSTOMER ID = [X] USE [LOGO X] IN EMAIL HEADER, IF [Y] USE [LOGO Y]

It's got some really interesting possibilities tied to it.

I've lived on 20kAUD in a ridiculously expensive city. But I would never ever say anyone should have to.

My salary until end of 2012 was probably around US$37k, actually. It was no problem. Of course, I didn't drive a car, own a house or eat out much/ever. But I did travel a lot.

Kinda like a junior Librarian. You do reference work, help people find items, databases, teach various classes, that kind of thing.

trying to convince my friend who is in an underpaying job that is overwhelming him and stressing him out to the point where he does not have the energy to job hunt that cashing out his 401k so he can live off of it while looking for jobs (partly because he is too scared of his mom / has some silly sense of pride and does not want to ask for help... though his parents would likely give it) is the worst most stupid idea
