Oh yeah, you can totally customize your character's appearance/gender a fair bit in 2. It's definitely a more complete game. Much like the jump from Diablo 1 to 2, really.

  • SeriouslySeriously Registered User regular
the customization is pretty spartan in 2 but it's still streets ahead of the original

So would I be better off just skipping to 2 then? Or is the first game pretty good if I can get past these annoyances.

I've been enjoying the first game a lot from what I've played, but I also haven't played the second one yet.

2 is basically the first one but better. There's no big issue with story, either, which I will spoil here:
THERE IS A BIG BAD GUY

YOU KILL THE BIG BAD GUY

And the setup for Torchlight 2 is
    EVIL HAS RETURNED

    The Betgirl
  • SeriouslySeriously Registered User regular
I really enjoyed the first one but I honestly can't think of any reason not to skip it if it's annoying you

2 is kind of worth playing if you really like Diablo 2. These days? I slogged through it and never felt the need to play again after beating it once.

Ok cool, I'll start 2 then. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on an incredible game or story.

  • MorivethMoriveth BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWNRegistered User regular
Also Torchlight 1 had one of the most annoying endbosses ever

I'm talking just crash-against-the-rocks style of defeating him

Neither one of them have a story worth a damn.

Here i will tell give you a summary of the first game:
You beat the bad guy, and now maybe one of them is the bad guy?

I started playing this Dino D-Day game. It's kind of amazing. Just a team based shooter with dinosaurs, what more could I want!?

I don't know why anyone would ever play as a human though.

Oho, so Torchlight 2 has mods? Any good ones I need?

  • SeriouslySeriously Registered User regular
does two still have that unidentified item bullshit

if so there's probably an always identified mod that just cuts that right out

It's going to be a matter of personal preference, but since it's through steam it makes managing mods pretty easy. Just keep in mind that you're limited to 10 active mods at a time. Sort mods by highest rated and try out the ones that you care about.

What, they limit your mods? That sucks.

I didn't even realise I had that copy of XCOM. I have no idea where it came from. It was on your wishlist, though, so I thought it could go to a good home.

I think it might haunt you, so watch out for that.

Oh, man. I was playing a mission as The Mole, and got a wild hair to try and dig through a really thick wall to see if I could bust out of the entire building. As I dug, letters started to appear. Then more, and more - a whole hidden message, put there only for people who decided to excavate this one random chunk of the building.

I think I'm in love with this game.

What I want to know is this.
Is this an accurate scenario? If so, I think I need it

Torchlight 2 is more fun than I feel like giving it credit for because it has a lot of the same point hordy grindy mechanics that D2 had which I conceptually dislike

but fuck if it doesn't scratch a certain arpg itch

Cross posting here, in case people are interested: The store page is supremely slow, right now but the Square-Enix online shop is discounting pretty much every game this week, through next Thursday, 5/2.

The deepest discounts look to be had on PC Download stuff. The pages load fine if you select a platform from the menu. It's just the main Store page that doesn't seem to be loading at all.

Depends on the game but most new stuff should be Steamworks.

if I type 'steam' into the squenix store search field, all that turns ups is DLC for Just Cause / Lara Croft GoL and DX:HR stuff...

I haven't looked at every individual page, but a lot of them do appear to be Steam activations. Hitman, Tomb Raider, Sleepy Dogs, etc.

Speaking of, Sleepy Dogs is $7.50 for the PC Download version, so people should be buying it.

What's the word on Mars: War Logs?

Looks like it could be a sleeper hit or, and I say this in the most loving possible way, a repeat of Alpha Protocol.
