Looks like the new round of Air Combat balancing has dropped
most IR missiles now have much shorter range against aircraft than against helicopters, which creates a reason to use radar and air superiority fighters over massed IR SAMs (making SEAD worthwhile in the process)
A-10s are now cheaper and their Mavericks outrange their gun, which makes them a bit more viable
New "Close Quarter Combat" trait added for some infantry SSWs, which apparently means they can be used for fighting inside the same city block, making some infantry better at storming enemy positions than others
U.S. and USSR decks have had their activation bonus reduced (this seems to have introduced a balance-demolishing bug where, if you have a deck already above the new limit, you can add as many units as you want)
Air war is a bit more interesting.
ATGM planes can be used behind your line and will circle while lobbing atgms at enemy tanks much like the Mig31/F14 does versus planes. There is now a point for all those SU25/22, Mig 27s, A10s, IDS tornado's ect.
Clusters are now anti armour and terrible at killing infantry, you need HE or Napalm for anti infantry/building work.
Rokit pods in planes are still a bit naff.
Radar missiles are good versus planes as are radar guns (increased range) IR missiles are more for anti helo work.

Dongs, I think your assertion that no Scandinavian countries are in AAA games hinges very strongly on if you consider anything Paradox has ever put out being a AAA game.
Which they probably aren't but still
They love making Sweden and to a lesser extent Denmark and Norway way more powerful/interesting than any other company would (for obvious reasons).
yes but Paradox games include literally every country in the world
I think the Finn's had a mix of stuff, the original wargame's Soviet BMP 2 model (in error) actually had the Finn's military insignia's and Finnish rego numbers. Presumably their artists referenced a Finnish BMP 2 photo's.
They had T55's so not much weaker than the DDR.
Soviet towed and self propelled arty.
East german AK's for the reserves.
Really they only thing they'd be missing is T72's (which were never brought) and the post cold war Leo 2a4s.
I think Eugen just decided that Finland would stay out of a Soviet led invasion of northern NATO/Sweden, and really did we need another nation with funny paint job T55s and BMP's trundling towards Oslo.
Here's Eugens formal answer on why there are no finns in the game As much as I understand the debate about "why not Finland", adding Romania, Bulgaria, ... or any other Southern nations (be they WP & NATO) for the Scandinavian front makes no sense.
Their was several reasons why Finland wasn't added, although we'd considered it: WP objectives were Norway (to deny NATO the use of its naval bases there and prevent attacks on the Northern Fleet) and the Danish straight (in order to be able to move the Baltic Fleet in the open sea). That's why we've centered our battlefield on this area.
Finland, straight at the other side of the battlefield (on the Scandinavian scale), would have played pretty much no role in this war, being:
- either neutral.
- either swallowed by the Soviet army in case of hostility.
- in the better case, its army would have tied some Soviet troops on its territory by wedging a "total war" on them, but wouldn't have prevented more to move against Norway or Sweden.
But in no case could have the Fins played any role in the decisive parts of the battelfield.

Eugen releases DLC for free, you don't have to buy season passes, or mess around clicking individual dlc and basket checking your steam trolley. That is how cool the developers are, and because they are so cool they deserve their 40 dollars.
New maps new game modes even a single player campaign, all given as free DLC. Cool dudes.
They then spent time making a linux and Mac version that windows original purchasers could use free of additional charge (on their Mac's or Linux boxs).
They are not asking $60, they are asking $40. If you bought the orginal wargame they want only 30 dollars for playing a game made by cool dudes
The coolest dudes.
Bastable on

It is interesting that the fixed map of 10v10 sort of formalise the game much like a moba's single map does. Most people have an idea of important points to contest.

Man, one thing destruction needs is a loss counter next to the kill counter. Or maybe just a big sign that says you are losing asshole.
Two or three times this weekend teammates have quit on me because "I was not doing anything" ie setting up defenses and cautiously advancing while they throw tanks into cities for no reason but what do I know, they have twice the kills I do.
I think the problem is that they might be experiencing multiple guys on them. So they see you slowly creeping forward when they're under attack from 2 or 3 guys.
I had that issue in a 10 v 10 map where they had 4 guys assaulting the flank plateau and a guy behind them directing arty and a plane deck. My self and my flank partner had to form a hasty defence line below the plateau. Luckily a third player on our side infested the city behing the flank cap with infantry in responce to my pleading for help and managed to drive 4 M1A1's behind and kill 2 HQ units before driving off.

"I think I can comment on this because I used to live above the Baby Doll Lounge, a topless bar that was once frequented by bikers in lower Manhattan."
Oh sure. Bigger games that happens. I'm talking 2x2 with me watching the other guy feeding tanks into some useless Scandinavia farm hamlet. I don't even mind losing because of a team mate but if the guy leaves I'm am going to get swarmed with planes without any recourse because all my fighter and AA is used up on my side.
But like I said, it is east partly a UI problem because in a normal game if one person has 500 and the other 250 the first guy is doing better. It could be solved pretty easily by making the individual counters the swing rather than the total kills or putting the losses on there as well.
Heh it also means that your "big killer" partner can't deduce from the enemies score that he's being massively butchered.
But because ALB tends to require allies working in simpatico one tends to get the similar rage outs as COH or the various flavours of MOBA.
I notice that I have good nights when playing with pedro or kali from these boards with vent, but not so much when pubbing. Pubbing that is highly variable on silent partners not only a clue about the game, but the situational awareness of when and if to help out an ally.

The singleplayer seems kinda limited, and I seriously suck at multiplayer strategy games, just so much fucking pressure on me man!
I wish you could save mid-combat and that the encounters lasted longer than 20 minutes since I am a turtle.
You can keep turtling as the single player allows you keep the capped areas you've taken for the next day/20min battle and the surrounding cap points if you hold the locations on the strategic map.

I just played my first 10v10 game of this. Really love it, but I'm afraid that there is too much turtling, especially on the flanks. Anyone else finding this? Maybe I just need to play more, but I see this as kind of a problem.
Though, in response to this, I have made my own early war soviet support deck with lots of cheap arty. Admittedly, a well planned tank rush could probably crush it, but I have yet to see such organization in a multiplayer strategy game.

Yeah it'll need smoke to achieve local tank superiority SEAD to take out AAA and of course interceptors to counter the eventual stream cluster bombers and atgm planes. Oh and as your assaulting a spawn point you'll need flak guns to counter the panic helo spam.
It's pretty epic when it goes well

Speaking of 10x10, I had a pretty good game last night where I overran a flank and drew the attention of the entire other teams Air Force.
Ended up leading the team and getting a 2 to one kill ratio with the majority of my losses being empty supply trucks trying to keep my AA in missiles.
One tip for attacking is to avoid towns and large concentrations of tank if at all possible. A lot of times you can smoke them and just go around to get at their cvs and AA.

The magic of this is possible when you're fighting only one chap or a couple of incompetents. Things get seriously messy when the team is even a little co ordinated and calling in units at the reinforcement point you're circling around.
But at this point people still don't understand the need to litter the field with recon jeeps/infantry and/or well placed recon helps.

10x10s it doesn't even seem like you even see non helo recon or regular infantry unless someone is trying to artillery snipe. All I run into is huge tank formations with crap AA coverage.
I don't know if it is 10x10 players are below average quality or something about the format but I am not a great player (about 60 percent 1 on 1) and every 10x10 game I get in I am either 1st or 2nd total kills with at least a two to one ratio. Helll, last night I intercepted a big tank formation and ended the game 25 percent of total kills with losses of 1500.

Do people on here matchup a lot with each other for mp, or is it mostly pubs so far? Because if I were to grab this, I would probably be quite useless at first, and need competent teammates so I can look better learn.
