    Thanks.

This is why I don't like pop culture references in my roleplaying games - they just serve to exclude people.

Unless I get them, in which case they're hilarious and awesome.

i enjoy the additional thing for randomization they did

before every fight with bad dudes, you draw cards from a deck that give you a temporary mutation

so you could grow a third arm, stone skin, big feet, mind switch powers

Depends on how they're delivered. "Exclude" is probably the wrong word.

    guys

clearly the best system is the one where you can do magic by getting drunk

and all of the powers reflect your status as a drunk

or the one where you tell chance to eat a big fat cock and can, for example, spend a minor charge to call someone

    anyone

    anywhere on the planet

even if you have absolutely no way of knowing their number

or if they don't have a phone

you just pick up a phone and stab blindly at buttons and it turns out that hey what a coincidence that's the number of the phone closest to them

    crazy

also entropomancy's Blast power (direct damage) is you make the word "pain" appear all over the target's body in different languages spelled out in burns and boils and cuts and shit

that one i don't get but it's hardcore

  • AntimatterAntimatter Devo Was Right Gates of SteelRegistered User regular
oh right, that Big Foot mutation references something in the normal cards

    the Overcharge mechanic

if you roll a d20, and get 10+, you get a bonus attribute to your mutation

if you get 9 or below, you get something that is a hindrance
    for example:
    Aquatic Adaptation (Bio)
All that time you spent in the tub as a youngster is finally paying off!

Benefit: You can breathe water, and you gain a Swim speed equal to your speed.

Overcharge: At any time, you can roll a d20. 10+: While this card is readied, you can mentally communicate with fish within a mile of you.

9 or less: While this card is readied, you think you can mentally communicate with fish within a mile of you.

also, you can go to the moon, because in alternate timelines the moon was colonized by people, mutants, aliens, robots, plants, and other things

    PLUTOMANTIC BLAST STYLE
A Plutomancer doesn't hurt you, he makes you hurt yourself. This school's blast makes you deliberately injure yourself with whatever is convenient. Under the influence of PIutomantic blasts, people have shot themselves, broken television screens on their heads, jumped in front of cars, and put blowtorches against their own temples

hello yes i would like moneymagic now

fun facts for the interested: the first version gamma world came out years and years before wasteland and fallout

Which isn't to say Post-Apocalyptic wastelands weren't already a well established thing at that point.

And it just occurred to me: I would really, really love to see a proper Gamma World module for Mutants and Masterminds.

there are a total of 203 alpha mutation/omega tech cards, 80 in the starter set, 120 in boosters, 3 promo cards
omega tech is in place of magic items, after you defeat guys you get Ancient Junk and Omega Tech, the latter being powerful weaponry from the past

    love this game so much

there's also five Cryptic Alliance cards that you can choose to use
you keep them hidden until you want to reveal them, when you get a benefit

Man, I would still be really curious to see the original, GURPS-based Fallout.

people think Lord of the rings is a harry poter rip off. people can be dumb.

Also you're forgetting the giant flying lion with bat wings and a scorpion tail that can shoot lasers and talk. It also only ever eats clothing.

i want to say it was the 5th or 6th editon of gamma world that actually tried to explain why they ate clothing, and i'm really glad wizards didn't ever bring it up again.

Cause it was dumb. dumber than the flying talking lion thing, which is a feat.

  • AntimatterAntimatter Devo Was Right Gates of SteelRegistered User regular
By the by, remember the Yexil? You know, the giant bat/lion/scorpion thing that only eats clothing? This is the first edition to give a reason why it only eats clothes. Of course, it involves a weird symbiotic relationship with fabric recycling-producing Nanites, but hey, at least they stood up to the challenge that many others had refused.
oh, White Wolf Publishing, please never touch Gamma World again

Pretty sure Wizards own it now.

which probably means the next edition of Gamma World will have the advantage/disadvantage mechanics,. Hopefully they keep it light hearted.

    40ish is not high

that's like, barely into the world of ruin

What? 40ish is like when you should be beating the entire game unless you were excessively grinding.

I'm usually early 20s when I get to the WoR, unless I'm really trying for a LLG to maximize Esper bonuses.

And yeah, Setzer can be pretty powerful, if only because you can rig Slots to always give you Joker Death, even in fights where it was supposed to be disallowed (and it's even easier to rig in the Advance version). Fixed Dice do let him hit multiple 9999 attacks earlier than most other characters, and his armor equips are decent enough. Plus most of his weapons do full damage from the back row. Sure, he's no Mog/Terra/Gau, but he's at the very least solid mid-tier if you ignore his Slot rigging.

Certainly miles better than Umaro and Cyan who are comparatively the worst characters in the game.

cyan is great in the world of balance

but yeah, in the wor he is just the worst

and it's too bad because "ronin out for vengeance" is a concept that deserves better
