the best tip I ever got from anybody was to watch the replay of every single loss, but no less than twenty four hours after the game.
Your mind mentally distances yourself from your emotional state in the game during that time, and when you watch the replay the next day you are far more able to objectively spot mistakes in your play.

I know! And when did phones suddenly become cameras? When did video games suddenly need a third dimension? And when did people start using these "internets" to pay all their bills, instead of the good-old-fashioned American Postal Service?
Pfft. Kids these days.

Placement matches force your league to be set where your MMR is. Your MMR at the end of the season was lower than it needs to be to be in the league you were in before.

lost 2 tvts on the new map and then finally won one
just played greedy as hell, I think some T are already abandoning the wild tvt openings. I'm all for it. or maybe I just got 3 people in a row that play like I do.
But Vari, gas openings are the most fun part of the game!
no problem with gas openings! but these people expanded which was novel compared to tvts I've hit recently.
I reapered the first 2 games and ended up facing rax expand, did rax expand in the third and scouted a cc first. I don't mind reaper, you can put on good pressure against a rax expand with the scv/marine/reaper little poke, but if I can get away being greedy I'm more comfortable.
only reason I did what I did in the third game was frustration, decided to die with greed (went 3 oc after rax, then fast 1/1) rather than end up uncomfortable like the previous 2 games (my own lack of a solid plan after reaper)

I really am having a terrible time trying to break out of my WoL playstyle (ie all the warpgates, all of them, all the time)
I won my placement match, but it took 40 minutes, in which I traded armies about three times. Watching the replay I see I have about one or two void rays, one or two immortals and colossus... and that's it. The rest I just try to re-max my army with stalkers and zealots as quickly as possible, thinking I'll rebuild my army faster than he can and win.
Stalkers and zealots are no good. Not against hellbat/tank/banshee. Not against mass void rays. Not against shit.
Thank god I had the sense to use templar and research storm.

you just need to make more stargates and robos, or don't lose your tech units.
it mightve been dhal that told me this last week that eventually you want a very gas heavy army, because thats where the dps and AoE is in the protoss army.
You can always warp in chargelots as tanks, but they are throwaway units, not the backbone of your comp
That is sound advice. I often kick myself for not reaching for those tier 3 units sooner in order to seal the longer games.
Yeah more than one stargate and robo is definitely the way to go. Warpgates are just so damn convenient, it's hard to break the habit.
lategame as protoss there shouldn't be any unit in your army that costs no gas. your zealots should be out on the map and you even want to start phasing out stalkers eventually

widow mines are so fucking worthless in tvz
maybe one out of five shots will kill more than 3-4 lings/banelings, but even those good shots usually end up killing a bunch of marines at the same time too.

This is the least correct thing you have ever said Dhal.
Even in these Code A matches, there have been several shots that have killed 7-8 banelings.

they only hit them as they were connecting with the marines anyway, the terran still lost 10-15 marines in each exchange.

Maybe that's because when a Zerg has like 10+ banes and a flood of lings the Terran SHOULD, you know, lose 10-15 marines.
Widow mines are great because they do more damage than a baneling, they don't die doing their damage, and they require detection to kill.
Their only downside is lack of mobility, otherwise they are incredibly powerful and almost impossible to properly deal with in large numbers.
EDIT: To elaborate even more, they are useful for attacking, harassment, and defense. They are inexpensive and they build quickly. I don't understand how you think they aren't good.

my point is that only one out of every five or so widow mine hits was even a reasonably decent one, and it was nothing the Terran did or didn't do that determined the success of those hits.
You can't predict the outcome of a battle that involves widow mines, and being able to somewhat accurately predict the outcomes of battles is important for stable gameplay.

Brilliant.
Went 4-1 in my placement matches. The last guy immediately dropped out once I told him it was my last placement match.
Overall, I fended off two cheeses, one a longish macro game, lost to a lot of drop harass. We'll see if gold is the right place for me.

even the best one that killed a bunch of lings and banes killed just as many marines.
Gold is a great place if you're learning. I feel like you can make massive mistakes and still win games.
Downside of that is you tend to not notice massive mistakes. As a gold, welcome. Don't plan on staying gold for long

I've been living in Europe this whole year?
I just got up, and I'll be on SC2 in 10 minutes, will you be around?
Your stream is extremely flashy, giving me seizures.
