alright so I guess I'm gonna be hellbat dropping and meching in tvt now. been begging for a plan and you certainly can't debate that that's a plan. I just honestly didn't want to do it.
oh shit hellion counter attack? they can outmicro hellbats.
edit - oh wow taeja going into bio looks like. also losing his economy.
Kid comes in and goes to the Kindle Fire tablet display. He pulls up the demo games and starts playing Plants vs Zombies. Having recently repurchased the game, I went over and watched him play to see what he'd do. By the time I get there, he has chosen his 8 plants and started playing.
I immediately noticed that he has no Sunflowers and is only collecting falling sun. I half-ashamedly broke into this speech:
"Kid, you really need to start over. You've got no Sunflowers. They provide sun, which is the backbone of your economy! You need to spend the early game planting two rows of them in a tight top to bottom formation. You can survive early Zombie rushes by using Potato Mines. The recharge on them is such that you can hold off 3 Zombies and have your economy in high gear for the midgame."
"Once the sun is rolling in, you can drop your more powerful, higher-tech plants onto the field. I'd recommend a single Snow Pea in every lane to take advantage of the slow effect. After that, get your offensive plants in place and wall up your front with Pumpkins, Wall-Nuts, or Tall-Nuts. With an adequate offense and defense created, start saving up sun for your endgame plants such as Melon-Pult and Gatling Pea."
The kid stared at me with clouded over eyes. He said, "I don't need to do that, I'm going to use this Mushroom to mind control the Zombies!"
I retorted, "But you didn't bring the Coffee Bean. Your Mushrooms will sleep during the day and be useless!"
"......oh."
A customer came to the register so I had to leave. As I left I said, "I'd start over and work on your build order kid!"
Twin-Sunflowers is like dropping Mules. So OP!
This is hilarious, as while I'm good at PvZ, my fiance is a goddamned master. She intentionally plays weird combos just for fun. She's in the top 5% of worldwide players for survival, which is pretty insane when you look at the playerbase. I'd introduce her to starcraft, but she might quit me instead of it.

Every time I see the "PvZ" description of Plants vs Zombies, my brain defaults to Protoss vs Zerg. Then I think about it, the Plants are like the Protoss and the Zombies definitely have that swarm mentality. I guess that makes Crazy Dave the Terran. Which reminds me....
I'm fairly sure that Ryan, aka @rts, is Crazy Dave. I mean the likenesses are uncanny. See for yourself:

Updated - 5:00 pm PDT - 5/17/2013: Star Station spawn positions have been updated. Players will now only spawn diagonally while playing on Star Station. No changes have been made to Klontas Mire; however, we will continue to monitor your feedback surrounding potential changes.
hmmm what do we think of this? I hate these maps like derelict and this one because i feel more comfortable to play in chokes and these maps are just wide open
After watching the newest State of the Game with David Kim, I think we can safely assume that the Hellbat isn't going anywhere. Geoff grilled him pretty hard on it and David wasn't budging on the unit.

best part of klontas is that terrans try to proxy by running their scvs across the bridge. ofc i'm going to see something coming when you scout with 2 scvs before your depot should be done...,.......

BW was rife with units that could destroy a mineral line in seconds. I'm glad that we're getting powerful units in SC2. I just think that Protoss and Zerg need something that is comparable, rather than nerfing the hellbat into uselessness.

Protoss and Zerg do have units like that, the problem is they are priced appropriately and the hellbat is not.

What... baneling bombs? I never realized how retarded slow overlords were even with their speed upgrade. 1.88 movement speed vs a medivac's 2.5 (4.25 with boost) and warp prism's 2.5 (3.375 with speed upgrade). No wonder no zerg ever uses drops.

Of course overlords also require no tech(although drop does), have more HP and have to be built anyway, so for pure drops they're better than WP.
The compensation is that when you finish the research you have 10+ drop ships already available.
Well, yes and no. Protoss also has "multiple" drop capability due to warping. They're well known to warp 10 zealots late game which is a huuuuge pain in the ass. The downside is that you're not getting those 10 zealots back.
Zerg is similar in that you normally don't get those drops back, and you can more-than-likely lose all those overlords since the opponent might have air by then.
Eh. Not buying it. A warp prism comes in empty. If you run into a shitstorm and lose your prism. Well then you lose 200 minerals. Big whoop. If a zerg does a big drop and runs into a shitstorm, well you're out probably a quarter of your army. A warp prism is like a flying nydus where you get to custom design your drop as you're dropping based on what you see.
Hoping for :
TLO (over Happy) over BabyKnight (over Lucifron)
Yeah, TLO is looking super strong, I really hope he ends up in the finals. If Lucifron can beat ForGG, it will be tough to break him. His drop play pressure is insane.
So I got some new headphones, they are Bluetooth (so wireless). They work just fine until I start up HotS, and then the sound is entirely disabled even if I minimize and try other programs. When I exit out of HotS, the sound comes back.
It seems like this is a known issue? And one of the posters is Tanner, which is maybe @TannerMS? Does anyone know if this ever got fixed? Or how to fix it? There's no solution on that thread I linked, so I dunno...
Geoff: "Zerg are having a hard time. Marine/widow mine is great to begin with, and additionally zerg have pretty mediocre anti-air when it comes to chasing down these hellbat drops that are hitting them so hard. Hellbats seem to have huge upsides and no downsides in general, and especially in TvZ."
David: "But isn't it true that, like, 3 Korean zergs have been having some tournament success? Therefore the whole race is doing, I think, better than any other race, and therefore hellbats are fine."
There are so many things he could have said that would have been reasonable responses.
I made a game! Hotline Maui. Requires mouse and keyboard.

that's the problem with hellbats, is that they have no actual downside

Welcome to practically the entire terran race. Medivac boost. Why?... Why the fuck not! Energy? Fuck that! I swear they were this close to just giving the medivac base speed 4.25.

I'm going to guess that something awesome is "not dying to sentry/immortal". He now dies every other way.

I'm just saying they're very similar.
In other words, Terran drops are bs.

they too can wreck a mineral line quickly, but you need a lot of them (well, not a lot of oracles) and they cost a lot.

I'm actually a bit upset they're already working on LotV.
WoL balancing became really bad once they were too focused on HotS development to do justice to WoL's ongoing needs.
