man, I wish I wasn't going to be so entirely busy entertaining my ma these two days
hi dudes and ladies. for the past few days i've been working on a dialogue engine for work/LP5
I don't know how this works in Canada, but in the US, depending on how your contract is structured, you have to be very careful about how you do this sort of project so that your employer doesn't end up owning your independent work.
fortunately, the contract is very explicit - anything I write for my contract work is mine, and it's licensed to the company for their use. i retain ownership at all times.
My contract's ending at the end of this week. It's a mixed blessing, because on the one hand, no income, but on the other, I've saved up enough that I can work on this while I job hunt.
We have rudimentary pathfinding in and we're talking about co-operative pathfinding, which is a CS nerd thing to talk about. Soon I'll have the dialogue system and UI implemented and there'll start to be interesting screenshots.
ok well I'm poopsocking a multiplayer prototype today... a three-teamed multiplayer game that steals liberally from No Country For Old Men
we'll see how this goes
edit: accidentally made the briefcase (THE BRIEFCASE) a physical object... so the person who is holding it can use it to block bullets if they turn to put the case between their attacker and them... probably leaving that in
I just tried to beat it and got game overed after 45 minutes..
It is really a great game. Each room starts to feel like a different special power that you can use on adjacent rooms... its really mind bending and satisfying
i always get really excited when i see other people post in this thread.
today's been mostly research; i tried to buy a bunch of japanese mecha books but i had to order them instead. so then i bought the persona 4 design book (which was surprisingly useful!) and the Alien behind-the-scenes book & remastered graphic novel (which rules.)
Orik, you have inspired me to try my hand at designing a quest using Neverwinter's foundry. It's interesting how I can see all this stuff I want to do in my head, and then when I get into the editor I realize how much goes into actually making stuff look like that. Because it's kind of late for me right now, I've only made a very simple map and one NPC; hopefully I can at least finish the first area tomorrow.
@Dubh You might be interested to know that the quest involves kobolds and their antics.
These kinds of technical manuals always fascinate me. Discussion and illustration of different concepts without glossing over stuff (for a youth market) or getting into the extreme nitty-gritty stuff (for the engineers developing the concepts). I can learn cool stuff without needing a specialised degree to know what the hell they're talking about!

that's definitely something I'd like to submit to

Yeah, I had to do some snipping on mission explanations and outcomes. Oh, and I had to leave off part of my dialogue tree sample.
God, I'm nervous as hell, but I feel good about going for it.

Things highlight when you mouse over them now. Crucial for those computers, levers, and exposed cabling you need to interact with.

I'm curious what you mean by this. Do they glow, or is there an outline around em a la Deus Ex?

trying to design a functional space station without being too derivative is tough.

They work for Dragons.
Gold hording lizard kings.
Why I fear the ocean.
Now I really want to find a way to stick the phrase "the invisible claw of the market" in this quest.
more like the invisible Bigby's grasping hand of the market
