Divekick seems like an extended joke that might actually be a fun game too.
Also I keep forgetting that The Last Of Us is out in a few months. Not that I think it's bad looking, for some reason I just always think it's a 2014 game.
at the end of MK9 my friend who is much better than me at fighting games ended up taking like 4 and a half hours to beat shao khan.
Bosses in Fighting Games are bullshit.
God yes. My strategy at the end was to nick him for stupid damage and then do my best to avoid him until the timer ran out and I won.
Then in Ladder on Normal sometimes he'd just get into a stupid taunting loop where I could just charge him and back off and he wouldn't be able to touch me.

Yeah he was getting pissed at the game.
Almost thought he'd snap my PS3 controller in two.
Doesn't help that it makes you fight him as raiden.
what's the point of doing flashy shit if you don't know what you're doing and you lose all the time because you suck
Well that's why I mostly play fighting games with friends. Because they all suck, too.
I dunno man I just find a never ending series of jump up and do the same kick over and over again to be hella boring.
Also I don't really feel like going to a kind of game where one mistake costs you the whole fight is any better.
well you know they all have abilities and special moves and a meter, right?
Well I watched that whole TNT and I honestly can't remember any of that, so that speaks to how visually interesting those mechanics were to me I guess.

So glad they didn't pull any of that crap with the story mode in Injustice.

Divekick seems like a game that started out as a joke but turned into an actual game
Like "oh what if we made a fighting game that was just two buttons to do the most common thing people do in fighting games? hahaha... wait shit that could actually work"
I just hope Divekick inspires some RTS designer to make something along the same vein. Starcraft became a whole lot harder to watch when I found out the appeal of the game for a majority of the fanbase was the mechanical challenge.

I mean, one character creates in and out portals in order to teleport around the map while another one wears shoes on his hands and can flip positions for what he's standing on. All the characters can do things other than "jump and kick," which was what you were complaining about, not that they weren't doing final fantasy summons when they did it.

okay so you just play fighting games just mashing around with your friends, that's cool
for people who actually enjoy and get into the deeper elements of fighting games, divekick looks like an absolute joy
I don't mash. I try to play as well as I can. I'm not very good, but I'm not just a brainless button masher.
I'm not saying people interested in this are having badwrongfun, I am only explaining why this doesn't appeal to me. I find the fights to be visually boring.

I am really excited about it because I suck at fighting games, but really like reading about them. I feel like I might be able to get good at this game where I simply can't seem to break through in others.

my use of "mashing" wasn't meant to be derogatory
my point was that divekick is designed from the ground up for people who are really interested in the meta element of fighting games, and not what's really happening on screen
the mechanics just sound so tight, like how the timer will pick the winner as the person closest to the middle of the map (where you are the most vulnerable), or how one of the characters' mechanics revolves around gaming that same system with his super move.
that shit is already built on a foundation of tight mechanics around a simple concept, and getting into what players will attempt before it's even out.
as someone who literally cannot move his fingers fast enough for fighting game combos, I am so excited for divekick
the only fighting game I was remotely good at was Soul Calibur, which is a MUCH slower fighting game that relies on knowing the characters and your opponent
And I'm not saying I need it to be the exact opposite, ether.
MK9/Injustice is the right balance between flash and substance for me. I don't like the hyper-kinetic, screen-filling crazy-ass stuff lots of anime fighters bring, especially with how fast they are. Divekick is on the other end of the spectrum. Netherealms makes their stuff slow enough for me to keep up but flashy enough to make me feel like even as a bad player I can do things that look cool and interesting.
So that is the kind of fighter I gravitate towards. That and Smash-style games I guess.

See, now you just fell into my trap because I just dived.
That game looks cool.
But I wonder if I should switch it to Black Flag.

one mistake doesn't cost you the game
five mistakes do
and it's really really easy to see what those mistakes are
