I know this game is kind of "old" but I just got around to playing the demo of the Flashback remake. I never played the original, but it seemed pretty decent. However, the reviews suggest that it's terrible. Is it actually awful, or is it more of a "How dare you mess with a classic?" knee-jerk reaction?
I don't think it's necessarily bad, it's just a remake that never needed to be made. Effectively it's the same game with a newer coat of paint, some VA, and a few cutscenes. Problem is now it has to be compared to modern game standards, and it doesn't nearly cut it anymore. Tends to be the issue with a lot of retro remakes.

From what I understand it's buggy as hell. Things like the screen not scrolling with you, AI being broken, and sometimes shooting an enemy does nothing.
Welp, just bought a 500 GB PS3 Slim. Originally I was planning on buying it in a couple of months or so but I just saw one on ebay for 190€ which is a ridiculously low price as far as I can tell.
Not a whole lot on the system I desperately want to play, a couple JRPGs and the Yakuza games mostly but I guess I'll get my money's worth out of it. Decided to start with Tales of Xillia.
Hilarious, Josh. Was waiting for the screen to pan over and for movement to reset but when one room ever-so-slowly rolled into the next (Conrad out of view momentarily, then humps his way back into the frame) I just started cracking up. Plus your reactions were great.
Guys, AC4. AC4! It's so fun! Everything you said was true. Have yet to try multiplayer - maybe I'll dig into that on Sunday.
Edit: Also, man I do not know what Sony does with the Playroom and streaming going forward. I just tuned in (as I've been doing before bed) to see if anything fun was getting a lot of views, and the top stream (3000+ viewers!) was a guy and his girlfriend playing Strip Playroom Hockey (so I guess technically they were streaming gameplay?) and five seconds later she was completely naked on camera. And not for a split second but... forever. I... I mean, we've talked about this before, but I don't see how Sony continues to allow people to stream this "film your living room" stuff, and then again, could they see questionable content and "edginess" as a potential draw? There's an argument to be made (on the business side) that 3,000 viewers are 3,000 viewers, all of whom could be watching TV or playing Xbox One instead but are choosing to use their PS4s - and there are no advertisers to scare away on the Sony end. Technically, I believe it's mostly Twitch's job to enforce the rules, and they do have advertisers to worry about, so... do we draw the line at true obscenity (i.e. anything beyond anatomy)? How do you police it? I don't think they're going to just ban Playroom, because they probably don't want to start gating out-of-the-box functionality and because they probably don't want to silence kids with game-themed living room talk shows, etc., so the current system of "ban inappropriate content as you see it" probably sticks around.
Edit2: Wait, did Twitch remove Playroom streams from their website? I think I heard about that and then forgot about it. If so, that solves both companies' problems in everything besides PR... but it doesn't really address the "do we have a responsibility to gate questionable content and keep it from kids" question. Unless you think that we should leave parents to enforce parental controls and keep track of what their kids are doing online, which I kinda do - but then, a lot of parents aren't that responsible.
Well, I would just make anything that goes online require parental consent in general, and then leave it up the the parents to actually use the parental control features. If I want to use my PS4 to stream my naked girlfriend to livingrooms everywhere (with her consent, of course), why should Sony stop me? (Aside from the questionable PR, it certainly doesn't hurt them any.)

Well, local laws w/r/t pornography, and any liability that would rack up for Sony, i s'ppose.
So I bought a PS3 a couple days ago but I probably won't get it until sometime later next week (Thursday at the earliest).
The problem with that is that Ni No Kuni is on sale on PSN right now for 9,89 € which is far cheaper than any retail / physical version I can find, and that sale is ending on Wednesday. Is it possible for me to set up a PSN account right now without a PS3, buy the game and then link that account to my new PS3?

Yep.
Have fun, it's an amazing game, I loved every minute.
I'll go back and finish the trophies at some point.

Yeah, there's a web based storefront that you can create your account on via browser and buy whatever you want for any platform. You can sign into your account with your PS3 afterward and have immediate access.
I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that Gearbox really doesn't think I should be playing Borderlands 2 solo. It'd be super cool to play with some folks here, I think anyone I know that would have it, has it on Xbox.
Not a whole lot in The Drop this week, but, well, that's just a thing in the month of January, really.

Toukiden: The Age of Demons — PS Vita Demo
A Toukiden demo is quite welcome, though. We'll get to see just how Monster Hunter-y it is.
So I got Sony Smash Bros. for $10 -- not a huge fan of the mechanics, but I figured it was worth it as a curio. I fire it up and it tells me I need a season pass to play online. Okay, guess I'll head to the store to see how much they're wanting. Literally over 100 items to download, stages and characters and minions and costume packs and themes all vomited out there in a random mass, but no season pass.

Am I missing something?
That sounds like you need an online pass to play the multiplayer (like EA's old "Project $10"). Did you buy it used? the online pass code should be in the box.
That, or Sony makes you buy the online portion of the game separate, which would be really odd.
Are AC2 and 3 required prior to Liberation? I've just played the first(2 is pending).
People dislike Xillia's VA? I think it's fine. And I thought Alvin was Troy Baker.
My understanding is that Liberation takes place in the timeline around the same time as 3. But, as the AC2 games (AC2, AC:Brotherhood and AC:Revelations) are way, way better than 3, you should play them anyway.
The lineup is:
1/21 - OlliOlli (PS+: $10.39 | Regular: $12.99)
1/28 - Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (PS+: $31.99 | Regular: $39.99)
2/4 - Dustforce (PS+: $7.99 | Regular: $9.99)
2/11 - TxK (PS+: $7.99 | Regular: $9.99)
There are a lot of people hyped up about OlliOlli, Dustforce and TxK (spiritual sequel to Tempest from Jeff Minter), so it seems like it's a pretty great lineup.
It's a great lineup because I'm not interested in a single one, and I really need to avoid buying more games before I finish the ones I have. That said, hell yeah, Jeff Minter! I'd say TxK is a spiritual sequel to Tempest 2000, which was Minter's ode to Tempest by Dave Theurer.
I'm not sure if I wanna get Tomb Raider for PS4 next week, or Killzone for Vita when the vita arrives. I've already played through TR on PC but dem grafix!

Depends on if you object to going to GameFAQs to learn basic movement and platforming actions that the game itself doesn't bother to tell you
As a kid I was stuck at the beginning of that second area right after the jungle for months

Wanna watch a gaijin butcher monsters and the Japanese Language all at once? Sure you do, and now you can!
Does the upgrade include any purchased DLC?
And, as I'm not entirely sure when I'm buying a PS4, does the upgrade lock me out of playing AC4 on PS3?

This is a clickable link to my Steam Profile.
And it's $10 bucks. So have fun debating whether to double your investment.

Yep, there are a few things I'd love to have in a true Sid Meier's Pirates! game that ACIV didn't cover, but they'd be more polish than content.
-Trade (within the Caribbean)
-Growing your fleet (within the Caribbean)
-Changing your flagship
-A little bit larger world
No, different character, different story. There's one crossover mission with Connor (AC3 main character) but that's it.
Anyway, SCEA have another promotion ready, this time for the Vita:

I think I'm pretty down for Dustforce
Thanks for looking out for me Sony!
It is like N+ but for janitorial arts!
I want it
But the style of the platforming looks incredible!
Dang. And weird that it didn't show up in the in-game store link. Thanks for letting me know.
Yeah, Meatboy was what sprung to mind when I watched the video.
Get it and play it and love it and thank me you're welcome.

Eh. I bought it for $2.something on Xbox over Christmas, so I'm not super excited about this one.
