Candy Box! A fantastic browser game.

No I am not joking. Really!

Just click this: http://candies.aniwey.net/

You may think you are being trolled at first. However, wait until you have accumulated 150 candies. Do not eat them yet! Do not throw them on the ground!

This is a game to be experienced, a silly game of discovery. It is probably more fun if you don't spoil yourself. However, here are some good things to know:
Contrary to what you might think, it may be beneficial to touch another man's hat, and possibly his lollipop.
At one point, you are given 5 berserk potions. You only get 5 and can never obtain more. Use them carefully.
There is a forge. There are three possible choices for forging, though you may see less choices initially. You can only do this once, unless you want to start the game over again. You may want to wait until you have several options before choosing. And choose wisely!
There is a wishing well. Do not use it! You can only use it once.

Last night I got kinda far in and then accidentally refreshed the page without saving.

Today I started again and have been min/maxing everything. I still can't beat the castle, even with walkthroughs and guides.

I'm not strong enough to kill GOB yet, and survive anyway.

I'm just repeating the forest hoping I get chests, then trying to get a better lollipop farm going.

And I don't even know why.

I've thrown 200 candies on the ground. I got a crying face, and that's all it seems to do. I haven't eaten any.

This is a good plan, really.

Once you have the best weapon money can buy, be sure to upgrade it further -
First with 101 candies, then with 30 lollipops, and finally with a chocolate bar which you may not have obtained yet.

For the map after the GOB one, you will want the most upgraded weapon plus a good 3-4 health potions, and you should be set. (they heal 50)

Also eating candy is actually a good thing, just not right at the beginning.

No one should ever throw candy on the floor.

Also, eating candy adds to health but apparently only very miniscule amounts.

    Are the Frog questions set?

I'm terrible at riddles, I can't even figure out question 4. It seems obvious
If you could be whatever you want, what would you be?, seems the answer should be something like 'me', or 'whatever I want', but it won't take any variation I can think of

You start getting so many lolipops a minute that you can just constantly plant them; but I went to the Witches hut, so I understand why now.

    I think it's closer to 1 per 40, it's not a very good rate. But it's something!

It also improves recovery time because that's based on percentage of HP that needs to be regained.

Is the sword from the witch better than the bought and fully upgraded Diamond Sword?

EDIT: also, if I have the first four item slots filled (going down) is there anything else for me to find, item wise, in the first three quests?

I get destroyed in the castle gates; but the candies I win from the Underwater area don't make up for the cost of the potions to get through.

It's the same sword, she just keeps making it better.

I think that's all you get from the first 3 quests.

    For the castle gates,
once you are strong enough, it could be a good idea to save your game and try using a berserk potion to outrun that spark.

What I did for that was
Use teleport scrolls to draw the spark over to the left. Then outrun it and fire scroll the knights in your way.

So just to be clear, all upgrades on the sword are progressive, and you can't 'accidentally' get a totally different, possibly weaker, one?

EDIT: Uh, I can't upgrade my sword via the sorceress at all, even the first one; but I did all three candy-type upgrades.

Use the forge. The first use only gives you one choice, and you want it. The second one, you choose between a fire scroll or a health potion to give a damage boost or return health on killing an enemy. I used the potion, personally.

There are actually three choices at the forge, and it's not good to just do whatever shows up there first. Details:
Life Sword - requires having a health potion. You are healed as you fight enemies.

Fire Sword - requires having a fire scroll (keep buying from the merchant, they're random). Your sword does more damage.

Summoning Sword - requires having a summon imp scroll (keep buying from the merchant, they're random). You summon a monster after killing an enemy.

They can all be useful, but you can only pick one. There's some sort of internet consensus that the life sword is not as good as the others, but I did well with it my first time. Being closer to full health at the end of a quest means you get to do more quests more often. But the other two are great as well. Summon is fun but not very good against big bosses.

Didn't know about the summoning sword.

I did life for the same reason. I figured the fire sword would probably be better in the long run, but the life sword would allow me to get further, quicker.

hmm... not sure if it's a bug or what...
I got to the anvil on a second game and sharpened my sword... then went back to buy a fire scroll. I'm still only left with the option of using a health potion despite owning a fire scroll. I'm not sure if sharpening the sword before having a scroll left me without it as a choice or not.

    edit:

    Nevermind, acid rain scroll.
