PAR has never really covered eSports with any fervor, I wouldn't read too much in to it. In fact, PA in general hasn't exactly been an eSports Mecca over the years. It's only been recently that it's started to get a serious following around here. Early in the evolution of PAX the PA folks didn't even want eSports at the convention, as they felt it bred a certain amount of community hostility by it's very nature. Obviously they've softened on that, as the last two years have had big eSports events...but yeah.
Maybe, but there were quite a lot of articles about competetive LoL, Starcraft and various Fighting games, so its not like PAR doesn't cover esports at all.
Define "a lot"? I think you're biasing your opinion with some implied cognitive bias: "They are covering this other eSport, but not mine!"...when in reality, I don't think their eSports coverage as a whole has been anything but spotty. Most of the FGC articles I've seen deal almost specifically with the The Incident from last year. They aren't covering Wednesday Night Fights or anything.
LoL gets some level of coverage everywhere because frankly it's the 1000lb gorilla in the room right now.
I guess you're right. If you look at that closely, Dota 2 isn't "mainstream" because we have LoL out there. Its always frustrating when you're favourite games don't get the attention they deserve to. I feel the same way about Payday 2.
As if the PAR writers have any clue about these things beyond the PR drama that floods twitter every few months. Just go to TeamLiquid, the articles are better.

you are interpreting that wrong. that is a list of heroes that has been picked or banned. Meepo has 1 ban, but no picks. death prophet and lycan haven't been picked or banned for example, and they aren't on the list.

I really want to get better with Morph but just cannot for the life of me get the hang of him. I am also terrible with ethereal blade/ Ghost scepter. People seem to melt me down the second I pop it.
Morphling had his cast time nerfs reverted. There were some other small nerfs that remain, but that was the big thing that put him in the dumpster before.

Alliance is just on another level right now. Sent Furion in to the Rosh pit to get Orange to commit, and then jumped on them with Ursa, Veno and Wisp. The entire draft was based around getting Orange to commit to checking for level 1 Rosh then punishing it.
Alliance has used this exact strat before. Same draft and everything.

I did the shotgun thing with him the other day and it felt great, I never liked him before, but his animation is amazing, reliable escape, str morph for straight running. And with Just boots/ Ghost Scepter (I think I went Aquila, Treads Ghost ->Eth Really nice stat progression, and not very expensive core.) he is pretty strong, if you get it in good time. Rest is map awareness, so you can morph agi for your eth without getting smashed for it.

The Visage thing has been brewing for awhile. It's a very effective first blood hero in a tri lane. The picks have been really varied and we've seen plenty of different strats to go along with them, so yeah, it's nice.

Some people knew how strong he was for awhile now. he got a major buff in 6.75, but it takes time for comp players to 1.) realize his potential, 2.) get good with the hero, 3.) fit him into strats, and 4.) have the confidence to play him when money is on the line.
The thing that surprises me is not the rise of Visage(it was overdue if anything) but the total disappearance of some heroes like Sven and Undying.
Undying's stats are ridiculously terrible and I think people have learned to counter tombstone a lot better than before. If people blow him up, he also can't counterinitiate, which is really what he's best at; punishing long/poorly thought out engagements.
Sven, I dunno. He's at least somewhat kitable, and as a 5 he doesn't exactly bring great things, but even as a strength carry he brings his own farming tool and some pretty good defense with war cry. Armlet Sven should be a thing more people do as well for the huge ult armlet power.
Gyrocopter and Alchemist, two super popular picks atm, are also both great against Undying. Flak will wipe all the zombies off the field and Alch's acid will kill every zombie in it while also proccing for bonus gold.
