So this is the one that has the new graphics engine, right?
I think so. Doesn't it fix some of the load times and have a comparable draw distance to the PS3 version?

I was in EB today and asked when the SI expansion was being released. "On friday" one guy said. "Okay, but you got a stack of copies sitting right there on the counter?" I replied. "Ah, yeah, but we can't start selling them until friday. Sorry".

I really hope so. I've been wanting to get the 360 version of this for a while, and if there is a graphical patch then it would definitely seal the deal for me.

hmm... I'm not sure but I don't think it's actually street dated...

Well, other than the load times and the draw distance (which is impressive to begin with), I wouldn't say that the graphics are a reason to not get Oblivion.

it's just a minor enhancement... I don't really even notice and I think the update hit seperately... you don't have to buy the expansion
it's just some tricks they learned while developing the PS3 version and that were easily thrown into the 360 version

Okay, so, I'm trying to get back into Oblivion using OOO because I hated the original game and I think the Shivering Isles stuff looks awesome. I also had a big problem with how leveling was handled. Does anyone have any experience with AFLevelmod or Kobu's Character Advancement?

Well, I guess I planned on getting it either way. It's just nice, since I have the PC version. In my case, I think it's a good idea to get the 360 version as well, since I have acquired a 360, HDTV, and surround sound system since buying the PC version, and all I have to play that on is a laptop.

Also, do you guys prefer OOO full or lite?
OOO Lite. I disliked how slow leveling was in Full OOO. I wanted it for more variety and so that bandits wouldn't be decked out in Glass armour when I reached level 15.
As soon as someone gets a crossbow, let us know about this shit. Pretty please. I've been missing my old Morrowind crossbows since I started playing Oblivion.

I downloaded SI last night. Went to play today.
"Loading extra content. Please wait."
Then it locks.
Edit: Deleted SI, and it loaded. Hopefully it's just an f-ed up download.

OOO full is a load of shit. Absurdly slow levelling and ridiculously strong enemies. If your into that kind of thing, I guess it could be fun though.
I want to go home and play Oblivion.
But I'm at work...

I'm hoping it's like Tribunal and Bloodmoon, where you could tackle some of the quests right out of the gate, but the really high-end quests required you to have finished the main game.
Tribunal didn't require you to finish shit, neither did bloodmoon. You had to be a high level to finish either though, because the enemies were ridiculously pumped up.
Oh, I was under the impression you had to be the Nerevarine at least to go to Sotha Sil's city or participate in Hircine's game.
I pussied out on the ayleid statue quest and just used an FAQ about 6 or 7 statues in.
Why do I not know of this quest?
Its kind of obscure. In the first dungeon you can enter in the game (the Ayleid ruin right when you get out of the sewer) theres a special statue you can sell.
It sets off an extremely elaborate, Indiana Jones-esque quest with an awesome ending.

Awesome ending you say? I think I'll have to get my non-OOO character to look into this. My Knight is just not powerful enough to be going into ruins.

Seconded. I like being able to not get my ass handed to me by a lone highwayman or a random troll/mountain lion/just about anything when I'm level ten. The default leveling speed seems sane in comparison, and at least with that I don't get completely destroyed just thinking about Kvatch.
Lite is perfectly fine and you can add in whichever components you like. As for AFL or Kobu's, I don't have any first-hand experience, although they sound like interesting alternatives.

One of the quests I really loved...
The Clue mission, where you have to kill off visitors to the mansion one by one. It was hilarious.
I also liked the assassination on the retiring guard as well.
So is this handled like an add-on to the base Oblivion game?
In that I can simply check or uncheck the expansion .esm at the data files level?
Or does the expansion overwrite a lot of base files as well, and becomes bart of the base install?
As a level 3 in Shivering Isles (no mods, 360 version) the game is very difficult and it makes it all the more fun to play.
Oh, how I wish awesome mods could go to the 360. How many blowjobs I would blow.
Karf,
Have you used the crossbow yet? Some of use are wondering how it handles. Where can you get one? How does it compare to the bow?

I don't think the PC version is out yet, so we're not 100% sure. But I would assume it's a .esm file, since it works almost identically to the other downloads on the 360, and essentially all it does to the main world is add an island with a big ass head on it.
I swear to god, as soon as I get home I'm going to search for a crossbow and nothing else so it's not brought up every 3 posts anymore.

My dearest Moridan;
Long are the days when waiting for your letters to arrive. Months pass, and I grow older and more sterile. As for the crossbow, I have not came across one yet. Rest assured, I will not relent until I have one in my arms.
I'll roll a mage (something I've yet to do in Oblivion) and get started with a new character.
I'll keep OOO Lite on as well. I'll probably start out in the Shivering Isles (new content of course) and then move back into Oblivion Proper when I'm done there.

I have a feeling you'll really like the first mission Sheogorath gives you then. It's essentially fixing up a dungeon to torture a party of adventurers. It's awesome.

Most of the Dark Brotherhood quests were awesome. More awesome is that apparently the dude who created all those quests is in charge of all the quests/story stuff in Fallout 3.

Looked on their forums, and apparently if you download SI, but don't update Oblivion, the game hangs on the screen I was on.
So ah...
I deleted it for nothing, and now have to re-download.

The music shut off after 30 seconds, then the system wouldn't respond to the controller. After about 2 minutes, the controller turned off, too.
So yea, it locked.

I'm hoping since this is a new detached area with new critters/objects, that the above mods simply ignore the new content.
I have a feeling that OOO might throw a wrench or two in though.
I've always been baffled by downloadable content that has to update itself as soon as you finish downloading it.
Why the hell don't they just update the content on their servers?
