I've had it sitting on my desk for most of the day. I should install it and check. I am pretty sure it isn't thoughas there is no mention of it on the case.
I did a fresh install (evaluating Vista right now) and for some reason it unchecked my Oblivion esm. There are no other DLCs included in the pack but there are some additions. I don't remember the horses having saddles, maybe they always did but these ones strike me as different. I don't much like most of the other DLCs anyway as they give you too much power.
Urk, it appears as if crossbows are not incorporated into the game-the interview featured a typo.
Uh, pardon? I didn't quite hear you. Did you just say you callously devoured the soul of my first-born?

So far I'm really enjoying this. The general landscape is positively gorgeous, and thus far I haven't run into any recycled monsters from Oblivion. I've only been into two dungeons so far, but they've both been quite different from anything in Oblivion. Some of the items I've acquired have also been quite nice, including a sword that is actually four swords, but only one sword (how terribly appropriate).
I think it's safe to say that if you enjoyed the core gameplay of Oblivion, then you'll definitely enjoy Shivering Isles just as much, if not more so. I'd venture to say that the experience thus far, has had a very Alice-in-Wonderland kind of quality to it.
My old character died in a terrible hard drive crash so over from the beginning for me. Haven't seen any of the SI stuff yet. Whats up with the million random DLC quest prompts popping up at varying times as you escape from prison? Man I forgot how god damn creepy the zombies are. Almost peed myself when one popped around a corner.

The DLC stuff is designed to become apparent to players as soon as its installed, mainly in the form of journal entries. My guess is, its designed to be instantly accessible to those players who don't want to wade through all the old content to access the new stuff. You'll be notified via journal entry about the entrance to SI after a day's worth of game time passes.
I'm gonna have to try this OOO Lite, seems interesting.
That auto-levelling bull really turned me off Oblivion, especially with the way levelling works. My first characters just got progressively worse due to my poor choices in major/minor talents thingies. I would level up by basically having run on in the cities, and then got raped when I went through a gate.
Oblivion, she was a harsh mistress on noobs like me.
This is why I refuse ot play this game. I loved Morrowind but thier terrible leveling system basically breaks the games. Any game that actively punishes you for leveling is pretty crappy. you ended up having to travel halfway across the world to find a trainer to trains useless skills in order to get good multipliers or you'd end up with a broken character. it also effectively forces you like 4 choices in character creation to not make a gimped character.
I got something that made me get 3x or 4x skills if I raised the skill once. It was nice. I used OOO and it was good too - I just hate the idea that bandits would at some point get glass.

I'm playing on the 360.
I didn't travel halfway across the world to find a trainer to train useless skills in order to get good multipliers and I didn't end up with a broken character. I played the game like you are supposed to, had a good time, and didn't find it overly difficult or easy.
I've done this with a combat, stealth, and magic focused character, and never had a problem completing every one of the achievements.
Maybe you just aren't....you know....doing it right.

I mean, I made a stealth character and didn't really power level at all. I've gotten 5x modifier maybe once or twice, and my character is still great. Can't go toe to toe with a lot of stuff, but that's because it's a stealth character. Besides poison is a great equaliser.

I can't tell if he's talking about the Morrowind or the Oblivion leveling system.
Personally I like how OOO changes the game. I can't go everywhere at level 1, and that's nice.

That's exactly how I felt (possibly feel. I think I might start playing again). It really pays to by as sneaky a bastard as you can in the game.
I remember friends coming into my room at uni, watching me play and being amazed at how I breezed through areas that kicked their asses. Really? Well that might have something to do with how I'm shooting them in the back and they can't see me!
One guy didn't even realise you could play it like that. Just ran everywhere swinging a sword around. Not surprised he got mauled all the time.
Anyway, I think I will start up again. Can't remember where I was i the story when I stopped. Got too involved with my character's story (an epic tale of misunderstanding, self-defence, substantial jail terms, a mysterious offer, betrayal, choices, killing sailors and sniping everything I could see from behind a bush) and forgot what I was meant to be doing.
Would be nice to restart. Re-spec a more suitable character for my playstyle (current is almost right, but not quite). But I feel I've come too far. The (only partially rewritten) history of whatever my guys name was could never be emulated .
I did grind my character a little bit to ensure I got some +5s when I leveled, but nothing extreme - and it was a lot more straightforward a grind than most RPGs I play. The game was never too hard but I did die once in a while. Occasionally too easy, but usually it was just right.
So if one to have a 360 and Oblivion, what should I download to get the most out of my money? Knights of the Round included all the old shit too, right?
nice, this coming out marks a perfect time for me to actually finish playing through the original. i think i want to start fresh though, i remembering just finishing all of the Thief's Guild quests with my stealth/bow (with a dash of destruction) character. i know i cleared out the Kvatch gate, but never took the dude to the next town. then just focused on exploring.
anyway, time to start anew and play a pure mage of death. can you guys remind me how to build a "good" character for use with the stock leveling system. good meaning a nice progression with the least amount of "waiting to level". do i just pick the skills i want for majors as minors? its been so long since i thought about all this, i used to have it down pretty good (with a nice mage character all thought out).

It was all included for the PC version I believe, and not the 360 one.

Right. All the DLC stuff is seperate on XBL, if you buy Knights of the Nine, you just get Knights of the Nine. If you buy Shivering Isles, you just get Shivering Isles, etc.

Damn right.
Me and my brother are playing at the same time. He's playing a tank, I'm goin stealth. He gets angry watching me slither through some of these caverns without a problem.
Only time I bring out a sword is when they finally get close. Just pull out whatever blade I have equipped, switch to a destructive spell, and have at it!
Its kind of obscure. In the first dungeon you can enter in the game (the Ayleid ruin right when you get out of the sewer) theres a special statue you can sell.
It sets off an extremely elaborate, Indiana Jones-esque quest with an awesome ending.
I hit this up earlier today. Haven't found that statue yet, but I cleared two levels.
Found the guy on the altar, but couldn't access any of the other places. Wasn't really able to find the other entrances. Loved the one part where you stepped on a panel on the floor that opened a wall, and then SKELETON WARRIOR BAD GUY.
I always play a melee character and I haven't really had any problems. I pretty much mow through everything. The only thing that ever gave me problems are those damn trolls and their freakin regeneration.
So, I haven't done anything in the main quest past helping the first raid on Kvatch and closing the Oblivion gate outside of the city. I haven't gone into the castle yet, but plan on it.
I found a random Oblivion game not far from the imperial city. Will these start popping up every where? What will happen if I go in and close it? I'm trying to NOT deal with any of this stuff as long as possible, and only care for the main quest when I get bored of searching for work else where.
My brother tells me that if you don't do something (wasn't specific) that everyone in every town will be killed. How do I avoid this?

Your best bet to to avoid Kvatch completely untill you're done running around doing the miscellany. Otherwise the gates will be popping up all over. But I doubt you want to start again, so you could 1- ignore them, or 2- take them as they come. The individual gates have no real bearing on the MQ.
I just started up my stealth character again and I realized that Dark Messiah really spoiled me with it's combat system and those sweet backstabs/neckslices.

Great.
Same thing I did with Morrowind. I wanna do everything before I tackle the main quest. To be honest, I could probably have a great time without it. :-P

The main quest is usually the most uninteresting quest in game, yah. :P

Oh, and I just got the PC version. I can't seem to turn it on and off in the data files, don't see it listed anywhere.

I would be highly surprised if it doesn't become available from Direct2Drive or something similar in the near future.
Yes. But does Knights of the Nine have it? I think I heard that the for-sale PC version did, but the digital Xbox version didn't. Can anyone clarify?
I'm expecting in a year or so for Oblivion GOTY to hit 360 with everything bundled in.

I miss the daggerfall system. You got 4 to 7 points randomly (so lots of reloading) to spend as you wanted. Character creation was better too.
I'm playing on the 360.
