Same thing I did with Morrowind. I wanna do everything before I tackle the main quest. To be honest, I could probably have a great time without it. :-P
The main quest is usually the most uninteresting quest in game, yah. :P
At least Daggerfall and Morrowind had a far more interesting plot than Oblivion had.

Yeah, it's not the best couple hours of the game, but...
April will be a rough month for me economywise, Command and Conquer 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Shivering Isles, Ufo: Afterlight and God of War 2. Guess it's time for me to prioritize.
If only this wasn't in first person, I'd be all over it. But sadly I always get horrible motion sickness from first person games (so no Metroid Prime for me either, for example). Do you think there wll ever be a game like this (and of comparable high quality, not some crappy budget bin title) in third person instead of first?

You can go into 3rd person by pressing the scroll wheel in or pressing r3 on the 360.

Dude, this game *is* in 3d person.
Really? The entire game or just parts of it?
They did a horrible job at marketing it then, all the screenshots show a first person perspective (ie hand holding up a sword etc.).
That's because the game was made to be played in 1st person, melee is a bitch when played in 3rd person.
You can get a mod that will lock the camera in place instead of having the delay it has. It makes melee combat much easier.
I just grabbed Shivering Isles from Futureshop (yay!). I can't wait to install it tonight and get started.
I started a full on mage character last night but I'll have to re-roll. I had a mod that disabled fast traveling, however when I shut off the mod I still can't fast travel. I was only level 4 so I'll just write down where my skills and attributes are at and level him up to there with the console.
So ah. I'm getting back into Oblivion (and having to reinstall it) so what are some good mods you guys can recommend? I've got some of the texture ones and all that because I'm getting brand new parts in a few days, and I want the game to look its best.
A list of the major ones I already have:
OOO
No Psychic guards
Illumination Within
Crowded Roads Revamped
More Immersive Sound
Living Economy
Book Jackets Hi-rez
Attack and Hide v2.1
Bank of Cyrodiil
Quest Award Levelling
Realistic Ragdolls and Force
Natural Environments
Capes and Cloaks
Cats and Rats
Landscape LOD Texture Replacement Border regions (the places you can't go)
Landscape LOD Texture Replacement (the normal places you can go)
Improved Facial Textures
Elven Map Redux (used to be Elven Cartographer)
Thievery in the Imperial City (adds a fence to the Imperial City)
Loading Screen Quotes
BTmod 2.20
Galerion True Unarmored
Gender Equalization
I installed Brew House recently. It's kind of a job mod. It gives you a house with a farm, and then a little lake behind it. You can buy sheep, sheer them, plant hops, wheat and grapes (and lots of other crops), and make beer and wine. You can buy fish eggs and throw them into your lake and they'll hatch into fish. It's really cool.
Although I wish to go along with the liquor making, he implemented something I saw in another mod (that I wish I could find) with citizens coming into a bar and you servicing them.

I've got multi-summons. It can be unbalancing but I was always frustrated on the outset that I could only ever summon one thing at a time. Now I can summon up to 20 different creatures at the same time. I can't have an army of flame atronachs but at least I can have my own daedric horde at my command. If I've got the magika and willpower to support such a feat then surely I should be allowed to do so.
Aren't capes and cloaks built into OOO? I know I have them with the OOO pack, although I have a hard time finding anyone that sells decent cloaks/capes.
I've stopped using the LOD Texture replacements. I find that the LOD improvements they put forward with the 1.2 patch are great on their own.
(There is already a fence in the Imperial City BTW)
I'd recommend Natural Weather in addition to the Environments.
I played Shivering Isles for about 5 hours last night. I am in love with this new world. The Fringe reminded me so much of Morrowind. I wonder if anyone will make use of the new artwork to recreate Morrowind.
My brand new character (level 4 mage at the start) had leveled up considerably. He's now level 11, and I need to get some cash so that I can buy the new Conjuration spells.
Also, getting Amber or Madness Cores are a great way to make fast cash. Just turn them in for weapons or armour and then sell that armour to the smiths. Cha-ching!

Goddammit Suds, stop tempting me into buying this. I thought I was done with Oblivion and it's generic world and now everyone says that SI has a far more interesting one to experience?
Oh yeah. I have to travel back in to Oblivion now and then so that I can buy spells as I get my skills up. Besides that though, I'm pretty much spending all my time in Shivering Isles.
I know they said no more expansions after this one, but they also said no expansion at all when Oblivion was first released. I'm only 5 hours in and I'm hoping they release even MORE.
Quick question about OOO, as I can't make sense of the read-me file: Which optional component makes the leveling go back to the way it was before OOO? I hate kicking ass for two hours and getting one level in Block.
OOO-Lite breaks up all the mods into different packages. There are a bunch of variants for leveling. Just drop the one you want into the Data folder and choose that when you start the game.
God, SI is too awesome. Although I loved Oblivion with a passion, this feels like more concentrated awesome. The dichotomy between the two worlds of madness is a brilliant design mechanic. And even if they eventually get repetitive, the new dungeon design is very refreshing.
Also, kind of a funny story. I was walking towards New Sheoth, looking at my map, and thinking to myself "Man, it's gonna take forever to get there". Then I came across some blue-skinned women beating the hell out of some monster. So I killed the monster, and then attacked the women, thinking they were enemies. Turns out they were Dementia guards, and I committed a crime, so I payed the gold and hey, whadda ya know, I'm at the palace (well, Crucible, but close enough).
On the one hand, becoming the new Sheogorath is pretty damn cool. On the other hand however, I do wish the benefits of being the new Sheogorath were a little bit more pronounced. I mean, as far as gods go it does seem as though your abilities are pretty darn limited, especially since most of them only apply in SI. A nice package of passive resistances and what not would have really been nice.
In any case, given the ending I can't help but wonder if the developers are setting up the next Elder Scrolls game to be a radical restructuring of the setting. Given both SI and Oblivion's endings, it does seem to suggest that the setting as a whole is headed for sweeping changes.

I'm cool with that as long as they keep the Elder Scrolls world free from most of the standard RPG cliches.
I need to get that Mod that removes the psychic guards.
I started a thief last night since I've been wondering why everyone plays them and damn, one shotting dudes in the head is fun. I move through dungeons a lot quicker, but things like Goblin Skirmishers do not die from one arrow and pretty much ruin me when they get into combat with me.

You should be fast enough to dodge most attacks, or, you know, get a shield and block block block.

I am but as soon as I take down the shield for an attack they maul me because they are so fast. I'm sure as my stats go up this will lessen but man, the guy was getting 5 consecutive hits on me even after he was stunned from having a power attack blocked.

Okay, yes that sucks. It's how I get killed most of the time as well. Luckily, I return the favour more often.
Why are you fighting them then? Just sneak and pickpocket your way to victory.

I've found that with Oblivion (without a mod like OOO) there comes a point when my character have to use magic and have to have enchanted weapons to continue.
I'll be going along with a stealth character who uses a bow and no magic or enchantments and then level up and BOOM! I can't kill a thing anymore. Then I need an enchanted bow, poisons and invisibility spells just to manage as well as I was before.

You can continue to play the game after you've beaten it, right? :?
Also: on SI, is there anything fun to do for us vampires?
I got Command and Conquer instead.

Another question, how do you create your own weapons?
