OMFG this game is capped at 60 fps on the PC? WHY?! WHY?!

    Consoles?

I actually remember having performance issues with The New Order, to the point where my old-ass CPU was putting in a hard limit on framerate even as I upgraded my card to a GTX980

Of course their following idTech game was vastly optimised on that front

Man TNO is do much fun. Even after playing DOOM, this game still holds up in its own way. My only complaint is the long load times and auto saves before cutscenes. Thought, I guess the game is easy enough that those two things doesn't matter outside of Uber difficulty.

Old blood done, New order finished.

Old blood was okay but the New Order is one hell of a roller coaster. Great gunplay and the whole hub area then off to a different location kept it interesting.

    Also
    Space Nazi's !!!

Up there with Doom for me. Lots of fun and look forward to next installment.

I've had The New Order since December, but it wasn't until I saw the trailer for The New Colossus that I decided to finally play through it. I finished my first playthrough yesterday with Fergus as my companion. Now I'm playing through it again with Wyatt.

    Good stuff.

People that don't know Jimi is in the game are more likely to select Fergus, I think. I know I did, because the choice between "Older Dude With a Plan" and "Rookie That Can't Handle His Shit" isn't really much of a choice. And it's not like Tekla is a bad character either.

Just a thought, but should we start spoiler-tagging stuff again? Since there's a lot of people that seem to be going back and playing TNO for the first time due to the new game's announcement.

I would not be opposed if someone went and redid Return to Castle Wolfenstein for modern gen. I played the living HECK out of the multiplayer for that game and Enemy Territory. I was a high ranked sniper on many of the servers I played on. Was so much fun in objective game modes to setup a kill box on that common rush point because the other enemy team had no concept of flank routes to distract. See helmet. Pop helmet. Drink in the salty rage.

I dunno. Tbh when I'm given a binary choice and one of the two says 'I'm ready to go' and the other isn't, on some level I feel that choice is already apparent to me

See, I knew he was in the game, but I just didn't realize his appearance was dependent on who I chose at the beginning. As a result, I spent the whole first playthrough wondering when J was going to show up, and slowly realizing with each passing chapter that he was not going to appear.

I will say that on my second playthrough, Fergus's realization that he's going to die made it easier to deal with than Wyatt's, which was kind of agonizing. I definitely prefer having Fergus's filthy mouth accompanying me, though.

The Old Blood is the single player version of that. Apparently Call of Duty WW2 might be going back to an older RTCW/Medal of Honor style multiplayer

Tbh, I interpreted the wheelchair segments in the trailer as more of a tonally humorous moment. Empowering? I suppose, but I think the idea was more that Blaskowicz as a character is such a power fantasy in the first place that even wheelchair-bound he's completely fucking shit up

Have to say as someone who's just jumped on board the ship since playing the last two games, B.J can take an absurd amount of punishment.

It seems any situation he can navigate with some over the top action hero nonsense.

Guy could most probably fill in his tax forms while being stabbed and shooting a rocket launcher with his non writing hand.

    Breathe for 4....

Hahaha, so you know that level where you ride the waterglider through the sewers? I thought it was odd that you spent so little time in the thing on my first playthrough.

Turns out I missed the way to unlock the second gate in your way. In fact, I didn't even notice that gate the first time. I'm on the level right now and saw it and the chain keeping it closed, and now I feel like an idiot. I never drowned during that first playthrough, though.

So if they released the game where, through time travel shenanigans the nazis summoned and teamed up with the doom demons and BJ and the Doom marine had to team up, and it was co-op I would never stop playing it.

Edit: apparently this post mentioning doom demons is the 666th post in this thread.

It's tough to be sure with franchises as dedicated to a consistent continuity as these, obviously.

I'm really hoping the checkpoints are a little better this time around. They were pretty frustrating if I remember correctly, especially in that they discouraged stealth because you'd slowly sneak kill so many dudes only to have to do it all again so many times that I just gave up and approached everything guns blazing

I don't know why manual saves are no longer a thing in fps games honestly, I miss it.

For the next Wolfenstein game, my sincere hope is that walking over ammo would automatically pick it up or at least for it to be a toggle option. It tended to get a bit tedious after a big firefight to go around picking up all that ammo (if only I had waited another 30 secs for the Nazis to fire off the 13 bullets they had left!).

It just seemed to ruin the flow.

I think there should be a middle ground. Where you can hold the use button and vacuum up bullets. Med packs should remain completely manual.

    glimmung on
  • ThirithThirith Registered User regular
What's the benefit, though, at least if there's an option? By all means make the collection radius relatively small rather than auto-hovering up bullets and medpacks half a mile away, but having to press a button to pick up things that you're going to pick up anyway pretty much strikes me as the opposite of an interesting, meaningful interaction.

Well, with medpacks, it's a combat consideration. You probably don't want to hoover up a bunch of medpacks and overheal... and end up wasting them because you want to explore the area. You might want to keep those medpacks around to fall back to if the next firefight gets hairy.

Okay, that makes sense. Bullets, though, I really don't see the sense. I'm fine with the gaming making this an option, but having to press a key in order to pick up ammunition in the kind of shooter that The New Order was nearly drove me spare at times, completely taking me out of the flow of the game.
