So as someone who has never Animal Crossing'ed before, anyone have any general tips or advice for a series newcomer?
What activities should I focus on first? What types of jobs do I want to do? Which do I want to avoid? That is the kind of information I'm looking for.
I think I've cracked. I'm probably going to buy it tonight at midnight. I'm breaking my rules about Nintendo digital stuff before the account system goes into place too, but this game is perfect for it. Goodbye 3D Pokedex Pro. I'm sacrificing you for SD card space.
I played the crap out of the first two games, but maybe played City Folk for a week. I feel bad about that, but what can you do? I want this on the go.
talk to everyone, do the little tutorial like thingees that show up, then start exploring. Try to get a shovel and a fishing rod as soon as possible, don't know of their exact availability in this particular game but you'll see why when you get into it.
Bring fossils you dig up to the museum, sell any duplicates for cash money. The recycle shop offers better rates for selling but charges you for trash removal so sell that stuff at the regular store first.
I think this is the one strong case for digital. You're not going to power through this in a few weeks. It'll be in drips and drabs for a year or so. When Pokemon or Mario & Luigi come out, it may get annoying to swap them out for AC.

Talk to everyone every day. This will befriend certain characters over time which will unlock various things.
The main store generally upgrades by buying lots of items there. The requirements are usually something like "spend 50,000 bells at the shop and it must have been open for 30 days." This means that you should try to buy some things every day, even if you immediately sell it right back to them. This will get the item logged in your catalogue and you will be able to order it later.
Added myself to the friend list. I expect all of the fruit and bell donations every morning, or I'll make good on Nook's promises to break your god damn knees and chop down your trees.
Personally my priority is buying everything in the store to get it on my catalog, even if I don't actually want the items. After everything has been purchased I focus my attention towards my loan.
I haven't seen my catalog in this yet. I only assume it exists.

I plan to focus on acquiring all the fruits, so I can set up my awesome orchards.
I added everybody from the friend list. If we aren't friends already you should add me back. I promise to be well behaved in your town...
Same here! Very excited for this. Do wish the mayoral night owl ordinance was a little more flexible, as I am starting a new job Monday cutting my game time by about 90%. Oh well hopefully between night owl hours and lunch breaks I'll be able to make a dent in it. Just a few more hours . .

EXCITED. I added anyone on the list that was added after I put my name in. There are lots of people who haven't added me... which doesn't make much sense. If you added your name to the list, why wouldn't you have added everyone on the list already? *shrug*
I just got out my DS to play around in old AC while waiting for new to be released.
Holy crap the DS screens were shit, compared to the 3DSxl.
That's one of the things I dislike about Nintendo handheld console upgrades. Once upon a time the DS was the greatest thing ever. Now it's shitty, compared to the 3ds.
Just finished adding everyone on the list again, still missing like 18 people, so hurry up you 18 people. You know who you are. Less than 10 minutes now.

QR Crossing is pretty neat, btw. I can see that being heavily used.

Hi5 friend!
Just went through and added everyone new to the list. Considering I'm only number 8 I'm pretty sad on how few have added me.
Settled on the town name Spielburg in homage to the Quest for Glory series. Town theme will be the hero tune from those games.

I agree that the number of "They added their code after me, but don't seem to have added my code to their own 3ds" persons is staggering.
Well played, sir.
E: @wonderlake - for some reason my 3DS was saying your Friend Code is invalid.
