Random question; what's the reason Viktor doesn't get played that often? I've been playing around with him during his free week and his kit actually seems solid.
Is it just because he's forced into having a relatively weak sixth item?
That's exactly why, and the fact that his passive sucks. I also think he was a bit buggy for a while so people have been scared off of playing him. Also not too many pros play him.
The passive of you have one less item slot was kind of rendered inert when they gave Syndra a similar passive but didn't make her inventory borked. And then there's Kha'zix's evolution stuff. There are better ways to buff powers than a bad item that takes up a slot all the time forever. That said, his kit is fantastic. W is just ... brutal for area deny.

Sona can actually kinda build standard ADC. But she is so much better with Lichbane and AP i don't know why you would.
Rylai's. Liandry's. Lichbane. She's a self-healing super fast mobile missile carrier with auto-seeking turrets and a teamfight ult. Waiting on "Space Battleship Sona" skin.

Annie's range kind of sucks too. Her Molten Shield is also kind of counter intuitive for a squishy champ. Ideally you wouldn't put yourself in range to need it.
I played my first ever game as Twisted Fate just a bit ago in ARAM. He is a goddamn terror.
We had just a Garen on our team as the front line versus a Leona and Alistar front line. We managed an ace fairly early and got the first two towers down. Then they pushed us back into our base. During a spawn push I managed to get into a bush and ult down the lane. I burned their inhibitor down and started poking at the towers, but mainly just clearing creep waves. Two of them came to kill me, which let our team get the three in the front and get them dead. I guess that broke them, and a few minutes later, we had there nexus down.
In the post game screen, the Leona was unhappy with her team. But I loved TF and our team.

He is secretly op. He doesnt see much tournament play because people haven't put him into their team comps yet and long range spell casters are all the rage right now (see: Lux, Nid, Xerath) and AD Casters (Zed, Kha'zix). Or super late game giants like Ryze and Oriana, who bring stupid amounts of AOE burst.
I think with some shifts to a more aggressive Asian meta in the EU/NA scene you may see him. However I am a noob who follows the pro scene, so take what I say with a grain on salt.
I am not saying that those characters are bad but there is a reason they are not taking names in LCS.
In general you really shouldn't base any opinions on characters at all on whether or not they are played in LCS or tournaments in general. It's nice to see certain champs show up there, but the idea that champs that don't show up there have something wrong with them or that they can't compete is grossly exaggerated.
Janna is an excellent example of this. Until she showed up in LCS people thought she was horrible, then she shows up and people praise her as an awesome champ. In reality not all that much changed about her and she was fine before showing up in LCS. (yes I am aware of the knockup change on tornado which while important wasn't what people said was horrible about her)

Annie, for example, can either try farm with a long cd aoe spell or harass you with a single target spell. She cannot have both.
Viktor's E is finicky to use and his Q isn't aoe.
Brand's E fits the type casting, but his CDs are all a bit too long making him stand around alot doing nothing in team fights.
Malz is similar to Annie, aoe spell has a long cd and isn't very practical. Plus missing with it puts you at a severe disadvantage.
The current metagame at the professional level should not necessarily be inferred to mean anything other than it being the current metagame at the professional level.

So, in my last ranked game we had a duo queue on each team.
Ours was a gold 3 and silver 3. I'm gold 4. Meanwhile on their team they had a diamond 5 and a silver 1. What????
He was playing Diana mid and carried his team ridiculously well. I know I don't play at a diamond level yet due to poor cs mechanics among a collection of other things. A silver 1 player isn't exactly a hindrance to their team at gold level, yet a diamond player is a huge advantage to them over us. That game sucked
I simply don't get her, in lane she seems like a weak defensive support with shield+knockup/slow, who becomes amazing in teamfights where I can peel, disrupt and be a general asshole. Feels really powerless in laning though unless my carry is good, which is something I don't really feel when playing Lulu.
What I mean, teach me how to Janna. Really want to know how to play her in lane, since at some point picking lulu 90% of the time will be a bad idea!

One Malzahar E can kill a whole wave, so I don't think that's a valid complaint for him.

Oh you want to dive me? Reqw ignite, walk away dramatically from the explosion. Also his passive stacking with liandries is pretty fantastic for tankbusting.
LCS picks are safe utility picks. Brand and ziggs just crap damage without anything to help teamwise. I subscribe to the best cc is death newsletter so I still really like them.
Of course I also regularly pick heimer and veigar into any and all picks. So grain of salt and whatnot

Biggest problem with Ziggs is his "Pool Party" skin still yells "INCOMING" during his ult instead of "MARCOOOOOOOO"
Otherwise I think he's pretty OK! He can do the Lux thing of "I'm gone for 5 seconds now I'm ganking side lanes with my ult."
Death Star Sona. Her ult is firing the Death Stars Main laser. Tie fighters lauched, etc for her other skills. ALL OF MY MONEY. Damn you IP laws.

Also laning against Shen is miserable. However ruining him solo 20 minutes later completely made up for it.
