I try to write.
Writing is one of my biggest points of self-loathing, because everyone says I'm amazing at it, yet I can't bring myself to do it outside of a couple venues like online roleplaying.
My technical writing for work gets shredded because I tend to get wordy even when I'm trying to be succinct, because I believe the why is as important as the how in my position.
I am so incredibly jealous of my friend and former classmate who got his first book published and is passing the 100k word mark on his 3rd novel in the series. Sure, he got dicked around for a year while it got published, but at least he's put creative work out there!
... God damnit if I could get up the courage to write something someday and actually put this mountain of debt to use.
Also some of my ideas may be better suited to comic books than a novel
Yeah, I sometimes get that notion too. My problem is just that I can't draw to save my life, and I really have no idea how I'd find someone who can.

I've found when people say they can't write it's because they are their own worst enemy.
I find when I try to write I get really self-conscious of it and end up giving up early on. It's rare that I write something I'm satisfied with, and rarer still that I find myself still satisfied after rereading it.

I've been using the same screenname, in almost all my online dealings, for 17 years now. I have a bit of a history so to speak. Or at least my mind thinks I do. Stupid thing plays tricks on me and makes me get all judgmental of my writing.
True story: When I first came to this forum (I just got my 9 year badge), I used to post in extremely long, multi-paragraph ramblings on my naive views on the world. I also used to sign my posts above the signature. I got yelled at for that.

I like to write
I don't do it nearly enough, and am constantly ashamed and in the middle of some other effort to invigorate myself in that department. used to do short fiction mostly.
Right now I'm working on a board game, though, and it's offering some opportunities to write little thangs: players choose light-hearted fantasy/medieval congressional districts, and each district will have a short little history, sort of along the lines of an overly verbose ME-style codex entry
here are some first-draft examples which are mostly series of ideas of me figuring out what I want each district to be right now
district 1
Perpetually oppressed, the denizens of The Break are infamous for their inability to peaceably assemble or to effectively articulate a reason for their on-again, off-again rebellion. “Geographically unfortunate” is a nicer accounting of the craggy, tempestuous rocks off the northeast shore of the P.F.R.H. Political careers (and the politicians that attempt them) are short-lived, as anything less than immediate secession is seen as mild treason by the laws of The Break (punishable by exile to “Imperialist Island,” southernmost tip of the archipelago) and actual, immediate secession is considered treason by the laws of The Crown (punishable by exile via trebuchet into the sea). Roughly eighty percent of the workforce is involved in the fishing industry in some capacity, the other twenty comprising the tavern proprietors, madcap inventors, and full-time rabble-rousers this district is known for.
district 3
The inhabitants of Golden Yoke are birthed in mines and die in mines: the pickaxe, their sigil, customarily takes part in both. Known the kingdom over for a stalwart belief in their cultural primacy, they adhere to a stringent policy of segregation between Yoke natives and travelers in their land. Their distaste for outsiders, proclivity for inbreeding, and tradition of mass multigenerational dowries has yielded a remarkably homogenous populace; purity of blood is rarely touted for pride in the mountains, as the exception is so rare.
Though their annexation was met with fierce resistance, once defeated militarily they succinctly submitted to and have since unilaterally accepted the burdens of The Crown. The miners have proven themselves to be dutiful and cooperative, though officers of The Crown sent to oversee production corroborate that they, in no uncertain terms, loathe each officer of The Crown sent to oversee production. But the flow of gold from the mountains has remained uninterrupted for several years, and so long as the locals’ affairs are left unmolested, incident is unforeseeable. (The notable footnote here being the visitation of Crown Ambassador Harlow Grafton, who thought it fatherly and quaint to take up a pickaxe and endure a day’s work in the mines. He was rewarded for his perceived condescension with the dubious distinction of being the first outsider to both die and be briefly interred in the mines, though he was later dragged out and returned to the embassy at his family’s request.)
district 6
Pilgrims need only stay a single night in Bloodbursars’ Bay to experience the eponymous three B’s: you will witness a man being gutted; a man will solicit payment to insure your life in the event that you, yourself, are gutted; and the beauty of the bay is truly breathtaking and quite a sight at sunrise from any of our waterfront inns, now offering competitive rates for the discerning traveler! Life is chaotic in the bay, and begets meteoric ascents or descents with scant plateaus. Conglomerates vie for the considerable power there is to be had, ever spawning, collapsing and transforming; the richest businessman may be destitute or dead in a week, and from the spurting stump of his neck shall spring two new heads of the hedged hydra, each at odds with the other and in a massive amount of debt. Multiple guilds of considerable repute and legitimacy exist to enroll starry-eyed fortune-seekers into apprenticeships, their halls devoted to the alumni who’ve left their smoldering crater somewhere in the district. The Crown has little, if any presence in the Bay: it intermittently sends its more daring agents to collect what taxes they can from whosoever commands the region’s economy on that particular day, then leaves it alone to do the grand and reprehensible things that it will do.

Some of us are just a tiny bit better at hiding it. I'm eternally grateful that the first forum I was ever on no longer exists. I've got some humiliating stuff hidden on extant sites, sure, but thinking back to then... yeah.
As for the topic? Trying to write. Got something on Medium Difficulty a bit back, hammering out some stuff in private that probably won't amount to anything. Writer's Block up north a ways in the forum is an excellent resource, as is "On Writing". Think I've got some natural talent, but there's only a few freaks of nature who can coast on talent. Know I'm nowhere near that good. So, yeah. Just trying to get better.

What really pisses me off about my lack of writing is that it bleeds over into when I GM.. or hell, when I play. I can create a damned fine setting, flesh out a plot with NPCs and sights and sounds to make you feel like you are really there.. but when it comes to the actual plot I stall and procrastinate, and work myself up into a tizzy where I go into running an RPG mad at myself and sad that my players won't enjoy it or see through my web of lies.
My players, mind you, who spent 3 and a half hours of a 4 hour session chasing the red herring I threw out in the first 10 minutes, despite multiple times goading them onto the right place. Though it did lead to my favorite moment in any game I've ever run before:
<P1> "I go off and find a hooker for the night."
<Me> "Allright.. *Rolls* Okay, everyone, what does [P1] see when he wakes up?"
<P2> "A man!"
<P3> "A goat!"
<P1> "A sexy woman?"
<Me> "Alright, alright. [P1], you open your eyes to find a satyr."
That satyr ended up being the Agent Coulson of my Shadowrun universe. A very effeminate, fae little satyr who could scare the crap out of my players when it was needed, and not just with a Barrett 50-cal sniper rifle.
(My second fav character was the smuggler mechanic with the flourescent neon purple dreadlocks. Because flourescent neon purple dreadlock cyberware is just awesome. He also worked with the satyr.)

No seriously. My senior seminar at university was run by a published, accredited, and kickass Hemingway scholar. Our final papers to graduate involved dissecting various drafts of his writing to see how he came to the final product, and analyzing what every change meant to the narrative tone, flow, and theme. My personal paper involved me indexing no fewer than 4 different drafts.
God, what I wouldn't give to have a Kerouac-like adventure at least once in my life.

No seriously. My senior seminar at university was run by a published, accredited, and kickass Hemingway scholar. Our final papers to graduate involved dissecting various drafts of his writing to see how he came to the final product, and analyzing what every change meant to the narrative tone, flow, and theme. My personal paper involved me indexing no fewer than 4 different drafts.
God, what I wouldn't give to have a Kerouac-like adventure at least once in my life.
