I'm working on a text adventure game in Inform 7. I've got the basics for all the puzzles planned out and a decent story, and I'm near the end of the first stage which is laying down some descriptions for the main locations. I can only work on it on my days off though, since I seem to have settled into a work pattern where I have to exhaust myself of distractions first.

Because of this thread I'm now actively working on my article.
I have to do a bunch of writing for uni. At the moment I have just finished up a small analysis of the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and now I have to work on an essay about whether communalism in contemporary india is the product of colonialism.
Last weekend I wrote about whether the idea of a resource curse is an adequate explanation for the widespread poverty in the democratic republic of congo.
It's all incredibly interesting, but there's never enough time.
I kinda look forward to doing an honours thesis in a few years.
I just joined a Vancouver writer's meetup to devote some time each week to not not writing.
I'd like to start creating a solid outline to this story idea I've had for a good ten years so that when I finally try to write it again one day I don't get about three chapters in before throwing my arms up and deleting everything.
then you should write it
each bit of time i dont spend writing is gathering ideas for writing, eating, farting off, and dropping a deuce or showering
good way to actively stay on your own ass about ideas you may get which in turn keep you writing crap is notes. all smartphones got note or memo functionality. if a girl is shitfaced at karaoke and talking about her boyfriend in a shitty band "Not Never Gonna Be No Pantera" then thats a note
somebody talked about a McDonalds in a hospital and i said "Just beat cancer? Did somebody say McDonalds?" baby thats a note
good writing comes from firsthand shit, so it stands to reason if you accumulate a lot, a real wealth of it you want to offload it somewhere

why the dickens
Come on it's probably better than Dickens at least
if anything it's far too compressed
the first two chapters cover ten months and years of backstory
(I know this is a problem, it will be fixed eventually)
what is there to say, really
surely any time you spend discussing writing could be better spent actually writing
Want to trade shitty novels?
There's not much point in talking about writing in general.
There's a million reasons to talk about any individual piece of writing.
it's daunting, but i have some good ideas i think
perhaps when it is done
Good work thread.
Satans..... hints.....

Im probably a bit to proud of it.
Also what is some better software than notepad/wordpad?
This might just help me organize well enough to get a bit more done.
but I never show my writings to anything
I used to and it made me worried about writing for some reason
now I write for me and it is a lot more enjoyable
one day I'll finish something I think is good and then maybe let someone else read it
scrivener, as mentioned, seems to be pretty boss
but if you don't want to spend any money, openoffice is adequate (albeit just barely)
BUY MY COMIC
right now it's:
weekend road warrior
the hidden bestiary of chester a. arthur (el chupacabra 2)
the murderhouse salesman
i was a teenage bloody mary
Before that was Always Have an Exit Strategy
The novel I just finished is Handyman but that may change, or get an added subtitle or something
i need to bounce between stories AND make headway
so many aborted stories that coulda been something
snuff film romantic comedy alone
Clearly I am writing short stories to completion, but definitely the longer the story, the more likely I am to wander off
I still need to finish two serials I started writing, and a couple of short stories, and like seven novels
Also I still own sentryduty.com and reflexagent.com for stuff that was happening and then didn't happen but I keep hoping will come around someday
