Well...the benefit of the Trilogy over buying the GC versions of 1 and 2 is that it has Wii Remote support and I think the GC versions aren't widescreen formatted like the Wii versions are.
So...personally I'd say for the three games the Trilogy is totally worth it, but others would probably disagree.
On the other hand, I doubt I can get much money for trading in a Gamecube, as opposed to a Wii, so I think I'll just keep both systems when I get a Wii U. Maybe I'll take the plunge and buy a GBPlayer some day.
I don't think either are worth much of anything. I gave my Gamecube to the Good Will as I was short on space. My original Wii works great and I only really like 4 or 5 of the GC games that I have.
The next things to go are my Atari 2600 and my SNES bazooka. I'll probably never play with those again.

I don't know where to ask this question but I have faith in this thread. I have only ever played the original Metroid and a small amount of Metroid Fusion (both from the 3DS ambassador program). I liked what I played of both of them and I think I will love Super Metroid. I own Metroid Other M because it was dirt cheap but I haven't played it.
I want to get the Metroid Prime games. Should I spend $100 or so to get the trilogy on the Wii or go with the (probably) cheaper route of buying the games separately on their original systems? I'm thinking that getting them separately is the best choice, but I don't know if Wii controls and being on one disc will make it worth the extra money.
Also hidden third option: wait for the rumoured eventual Gamecube virtual console and buy it then.
I wouldn't shell out 100 bucks. Maybe buy the first Prime game, and try that first to make sure you like it. It's dirt cheap. I love Metroid games, but prefer Super Metroid, Zero Mission, and Fusion. I was never really into the Prime games. They're a lot different.

First off, go buy and play Super Metroid. It's 30 cents, you can't go wrong. Then you've got the hard choice on your hands. Metroid Prime Trilogy is basically amazing, but I felt like I was paying too much back when I got it at $60 a few years ago.

I have a question. Is transferring your Wii stuff to your Wii U as much as a pain as it sounds? Also I'm not sure I like the idea of it basically formating my wii. Will it let me play games like Super Mario RPG and Link to the Past and other unreleased Wii U VC games like it does with Super Metroid? Like on the controller screen?
I gave my Wii to my parents because it sounds like a lawnmower and hooked up my GameCube again. I missed that little box. My brother is keeping his Wii as a Brawl machine.
I already got Super Metroid on the VC. I think I will buy Prime for the GCN first. It's not too expensive to get online, although a saddening amount of sellers have it without the case or instructions. It's going to be tough to find a good copy without paying too much.

Not a pain, it can just take a while.

No, but you can play in Wii mode.

The transfer is completely painless.
You will have access to all your Wii stuff on the WiiU but only through it running as a Wii; i.e. Wii specific VC games won't have the gamepad play and all that; only games made specifically for the WiiU VC will have that.
Speaking of the Metroid Prime games, should I play the first two before I play the last one?
I mean, I'd like to play them all but the chances of me finding a copy of the trilogy for the Wii are very slim.

I would, if only because Prime 1 is one of the best games ever made.

Do to weirdness of my recent console playing I have Wii U, Wii, and GCN all hooked up to my main tv. GCN+GB Player for some Pokémon trades and imports, Wii for Wavebird preferred Wii games, Wii U for everything else.
(GCN +GB player+GBA>GCN cable+wavebird+an extra tv)x4 is the best way to play FF:CC.
Where I work there are so many layers of management that no one really knows what is going on. This is scary if you look at the big picture. It works out nicely for me because if I get 2 opposing directives I choose which one makes the most sense.
EA is probably just as incompetent. Mr. Brown may not have polled all of the various development houses when he made his statement. Either that or Mr. Jorgensen missed a meeting or 3 and really doesn't know what he is talking about.
When i was working in the Air Force as a simulation developer, we'd give briefings to big-wigs as they passed through. We always had a higher-up give the briefings because it looked better; but they also rarely had any actual idea of what we were doing.
The sort of things they said we could do, have done; the promises they made...man..If I hadn't learned quick that I could pretty much ignore 99.9% of that I probably would have had a stroke on a regular basis.
I'd be astounded if a company as monolithic as EA was run any better.
That being said I'm still not holding my breath for EA games on the WiiU...not that I was to begin with.
The reworked Wiimote controls for the Prime Trilogy are absolutely boss. If you like Metroid for any reason I feel the Prime Trilogy is a shit ton of bang for your buck. I haven't even really touched MP3 (which is definitely the worst of the bunch) and I absolutely feel it was worth it.
Coincidentally, I just bought a Gameboy Player a few days ago. I almost want to get a second Gamecube to use as a dedicated Gameboy Player.
At the point me and my friends set up the ultimate FF:CC rig (The big screen was a projector and the four GCN's plugged into a Wii!) it was actually cheaper by ten dollars to get used GCN's and GB players than it was for SPs, though of course the pricing goes back in favor of the GBA SP if you needed to buy a tv to go along with it.

You're absolutely right, @skeldare. Plus, it's a good hedge in case something were to go wrong with their strategic partnerships. Like, say, the entire internet turning against one of the big 3 manufacturers.

As a person with the first two Prime games on GCN, and Corruption on Wii, I can say that I think the GCN controls still hold up. Plus, getting copies of the GCN versions are pretty much dirt cheap compared to the trilogy, or so I have heard.

Once you start playing FF:CC co-operatively and can see all the maps you can bring the game to a whole new level. Also co-operating on goals means more points which means better loot drops at the end of the level.

Ya know, that would be kinda cool. I just might do that one day.
It took me and four friends (we rotated around for obvious reasons) two years to complete it.

I've been thinking about Spotpass a little bit. Specifically, how there's some potential there that's not being reached. I think a lot of games could deliver challenges via Spotpass. The example I've been thinking of is Need for Speed. Whenever you pass a speed camera it compares your speed to the speeds of everyone on your friend list. Wouldn't it be neat if Spotpass would give you a notification when someone beat your speed so you can go back and take the crown?

You mean sorta like Rayman Legends does, or what Microsoft just said they'd be doing with their Azure cloud?
In other words - yeah, it would be an awesome value add, but it also takes work to implement and server overhead to maintain.

That'd be cool, but not sure how that would work since Most Wanted uses Autolog.

It would essentially be sending Autolog notifications from outside the game. It would give you a reason to pick games back up again and from a publisher's viewpoint would keep their multiplayer communities going longer. As for the server overhead, it's there anyway for current notifications (like from NSMBU).
It's not a huge deal or anything, I just think it would be a pretty cool feature. I hope a game uses it one day.
