Honestly, releasing a 99 dollar 360 might actually cut into the sales of the Xbone.
Makes me lean towards it not being an independent device, but a dongle that requires the Xbone.
I'm looking forward to grabbing a Kinect 2.0 for my HTPC

I can't fathom it as a dongle - otherwise when asked about backwards compatibility they would have said "We have no comment" or "More info in the future" or something. What if instead of an independent device it was a $99 PC addon to enable 360 games on a PC?
there's just a lot of information that we don't have right now, and I think that'll make a big difference in how we see the Xbox One closer to launch. We're all still just thinking in terms of how things are at the moment, when they've clearly got a different model in mind. Whether it's actually better is another thing, but they've not given the information yet to be able to decide (probably because it's a pretty big bombshell to be dropping on retail, so they're making everything watertight).

All cool ideas, and just about believable. It might lull the flames of rage which will result from 'none of your XBLA games work on the new Xbone' if you can just purchase a $99 360 on a USB drive and run it on any windows 8 system (including the Xbone). It could just serve as an operating system on a stick as well, so when you plug it into either a PC or an Xbone it simply boots up as a 360.
Steam must be rubbing their hands with glee though, MS seems determined to hand them the market for the 'long tail' of gaming (space sims, indies, strategy etc)
The Xbox one looks like an improvement on a lot of hardware fronts but I just hope that they keep system link. I saw a LAN port on the back of it so... hopefully they will keep it. I looking forward to seeing next Halo game, could not care more about CoD or the average dog,( just kidding that Dog is beyond adorable). I mean seeing what they did with Halo 4 on the 360 I can't wait too see what they can do on the Xbox one.
The Verdict: Microsoft at this rate won't have my R4000, (4000 Rand South African Currency) but maybe what we don't like will be changed by release or was not as bad as we thought. Just my system link and split-screen... thats why I have a console. Because LAN on PC has sadly died and PC never had truly had split-screen.

Blind optimism would be more accurate. Lets hope all the really unlikely perks materialize. The Xbone is going to need them badly.
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
The part in that article about prices coming down and sales being more frequent struck me as particularly naive. Why would a company do either when they have full control over the marketplace and can eliminate scarcity of product?
I bet the Playstation marketing guys are out somewhere, right now, getting absolutely shit-faced with relief at being so conservative with their naming policy.

Pretty much.
It would certainly be nice to see steam prices/sales on a console.
Will it happen though?
I'm leaning towards nope.
Just because they implement the clear negatives of PC-gaming (DRM, not being able to just put in a disc and play it, I dunno what else), doesn't mean that we'll automatically get the positives of PC-gaming - this is just a big unknown and it's kinda naive to bet on it to happen.
I understand that some gamemodes don't require internet connection to play, however if the game license of the overall product is required to check in daily on the internet I really don't see what situation that would actually apply to.
Well, I see the recent sales MS has been doing recently over live as an experiment to see how well that would work out for them in the future and it fits really well with what the XOne is going to do. If they never did any sales of any nature at all for their full digital content I would see where you would have a much bigger reason to be worried, but I don't think having faith that sales of that nature will be coming (especially if their experiment went well) is naive in the slightest.

Well I appreciate him saying that not everyone will do that, but it seems fair to think that some publishers will experiment with lower prices, and they're the ones who should flourish. If EA or Activision want to stick at £40-50 from now until forever, then I'm sure that'll work just fine running them into the ground.

Not to mention that re-selling games giving up games is entirely dependent on whatever Microsoft decides is a "fair" value for the trade-in forfeiture.

Yeah, Steam didn't just spring spontaneously into awesomeness; it was conciously developed to compete with another market that featured $0 cost and nonexistent DRM (because you had to crack it anyway) but had a high barrier to entry on the form of inconvenience. As a result, the system was conciously made to compete with that market by making the system as convenient as possible and minimizing costs to the consumer.
None of the console propoas floating out there do that. They're not trying to outcompete the used market; they're just trying to strangle the competing option. They have no intention of offering a better alternative to the current used game market that benefits them; thu just want it gone, and anyone who thinks they want to kill it in order to give you benefit is completely naive.
Shrug, the data coming out of steam sales that say the companies make a *ton* more money even after the sale price means I wouldn't be surprised to see sales. I mean, EA probably won't partake, but why wouldn't you have huge sales if they're fairly well proven to make you money? I'm not going to say it's assured or anything, but "lol microsoft" or whatever isn't really a compelling argument vs the data that comes out of steam re: sales.

Really? No offline mode?
Until that is fixed, I won't be buying it.

Yeah, PR speak, because we won't like the answers.

Heh, the preview image says Xboxo. The Spanglish console!

Every time that dude said 'Xbox One' my mind went back to the first Xbox and I very briefly wondered why they were talking about that thing.
Then again, since I can say 'Wii' and 'Wii U' with a straight face, I'm sure I'll get used to 'Xbox One' as well.
Which of course is not always true, and if some of the same tactics were applied to the car industry or clothing industry, would seem ridiculous.
I see marketing possibilities here.
