My first year at college has begun to take it's toll on my body. First semester I could drink, eat, party whatever and not feel and not have any real reprocussions. Well, second semester I'm starting to notice that I'm gaining a little bit of weight and I'm not quite in the physical condition I would like to be. So, after a real reflection on my life after I just turned 19 I'm gonna cut down on smoking reefer, completely kick the "occassional cigarette" after smoking. Also, stop eating so late and go to bed a bit earlier (I don't have any classes until 1 PM, so I can wake up and have very productive mornings.
It is with these mornings that I plan to start running and going to the gym again. I plan on putting my $50 dollar a semester athletic fee to use and use the facilities at my advantage. A fully stocked gym and olympic sized swimming pool at are my advantage. I'm gonna start lifting again, and I'm just gonna piece together a routine sometime soon, just not sure what yet. I would love to start running, but I don't have good running shoes anymore and the weather isn't that great just yet (Also, my iPod shit the bed
). So I figure I'll start swimming for cardio, as it's just as good if not better than running and provides a good workout.
So, do I start swimming before I lift, or wait until after? I'd probably do chest and maybe a little bit of legs, probably some situps and such too. So should I swim first and loosen up, get my blood pumping, or wait until after as a good cooldown and post-workout stretch?
Gonna start eating breakfast again too. I'm pretty plain. Apple Juice/Milk/Cereal/Bagel (w/ butter)/English Muffin are the kind of breakfasts I eat. Not that great I know, but I plan on supplementing that with a whey protein shake or something, then go work out... or should I wait until after?
Basically, I just want to know how to manage my time better. Also, if you have any tips on how to improve a college kid's general health and fitness, please, fire away.
