[Arrested Development][Season 4 - 05/26] I just blue myself
Does anyone know what metric Netflix plans to use to decide if this was worth it?
Like, It is considered a good thing or a bad thing if someone uses their "free month" to watch all the episodes and then bails?
You mean, if it attracts new customers? That would be a very very good thing. It means the show brought in a new customer(who gave the a credit card number), and the rest of the service just failed to keep them.
Guess it will be better to watch it tomorrow, but I feel like I'd be able to restrict myself to an episode or two tonight rather than tomorrow morning.

I wish I could just stay up but I gotta work in the morning
like even if it was 2 PM I'd rather not go to bed
wsj says 12:00 pacific so 3 AM here... I don't know if that's a fact though.
First episode: Meh? Kinda bizzare. Only real comment is WHOA MAEBY GOT HOT.
Second episode: HERE WE GO! This is awesome. Digging the focusing on a single character format. Works really really well with Netflix dropping all episodes at once. Can't really stay up to keep watching, but awesome! Hope it stays strong.
edit: digging the cameos too. And having just watched the other 3 seasons again a week or two ago, they are making tons of amusing references.
Holy shit all the previous footage used has "SHOWSTEALER PRO: TRIAL EDITION" watermarks on it. Edit: apparently its a joke, couldnt find the software as legit. doh.
Edit: also I hate what got done with Michael's character. He was always this much of a near do well, but he was never this pathetic.

I'll finish the third ep before work, should be through 6-7 before I have to go to my aunt's party this afternoon
happy
edit - first ep is funny but the show gets stronger over the first 3, and I imagine it'll keep building.
Two episodes in. Fantastic stuff so far. It's so great to have these characters back, and seeing it as a "character per episode" format is great. I see other characters doing things in the background and I immediately wonder when i'm going to find out what they were doing. Can't wait and it works perfect for netflix.
The watermark thing on old footage is a great little joke. I thought something was wrong at first but then it kept showing up. They got me.
Also, yes, Maeby got super attractive.

Ahahaha "It's a wall to keep out the immigrants WHICH WAS MY IDEA"
What the hell did Portia de Rossi do to herself in the last few years? Lindsey looks NOTHING like she did previously. If the voice wasn't the same I would have assumed they got a different actress.
I feel like she's Michael Jackson'd herself with plastic surgery.

First episode: Bad, way too many cameos (and I usually like them!). Kind of made me wonder if this was a good idea.
Second episode: Much better, but I could see instances of what they were talking about where they superimposed people into scenes thanks to a green screen.
Third episode: Step backwards, Portia's face freaks me out.
I don't know what their budget was, but they seem to be making it work rather well. But some of the cameos aren't good.
the workaholics brajs really pulled you out of the scene (Adam looked the most "in character"), and Ed Helms, no, go away and stop being in things. Just, just take your Hangover and Office money and literally go on a yacht to the bahamas for a few months.
It looks like all of Winkler's stuff is green screened so far.
showstealer pro trial version watermark in the first episode.
such production values!
I can never tell if people are retarded, humorless and/or being ironic online.
I mean, showstealer pro trial version is pretty friggin hilarious.
It took me a minute to catch that one the first time they did it. First episode was just bad. Michael was always a bit less pathetic than all that. Second one I enjoyed much more, but still not fully sold. Then again I didn't really get into the show until like my second or third run through so maybe it needs to grow on me. The wife loves it (save for the Michael bits she described as "physically painful to watch").
I cracked up at the references to the 90s Fantastic Four film. And I did not expect the MST3K gag
So far it's not as good as the original run, and it doesn't quite look to have the same rewatch value and suffers a little from too many callbacks (some are hilarious, some not so much). But the intermixing of the episodes is done to great effect, slowly peeling away layers of the story. Maybe I'll appreciate the early episodes more when I get to the end because of that.

Can't wait for Maebe's episode. Her continued career as a film executive was always my favorite part about the original series.
I don't mind the cameos. Ed Helms was fine, although I don't remember him being in the originals. Any episode or season number I can reference?
It's also great seeing Ron Howard as himself, considering his other role on the series as the voiceover.
And of course Isla Fisher is an amazingly beautiful woman and I was pleased when I saw her name in the credits before the new season came out, and so far her character has been great.

Ed Helms was in the episode where Tobias and Lindsey decided to cheat on each other.

I found it so distracting I couldnt watch the episode. I wanted to find out if they had a different actress and portia dubed the lines to fuck with us. Towards the end some of the scenes really looked like her again. It was just really jarring. She aged 10 hollywood years, where she looked fine, but 10 years older, so she had 15 years of work done on her. Also she didnt look like this in 2010 in better off ted. That or she lost weight and was already skinny.
edit: for a bit I thought it was christina flockhart

Yes, it is extremely distracting. Every time she's on screen I'm trying to reconcile what I know with what I'm seeing on the screen. She literally looks like a different person. The fact that it has been approximately 10 years is not a valid reason for why she looks so different, considering none of the rest of the cast looks like they walked through a face scrambler.
And I also agree that some scenes she looks more like herself that others. Depending on how long this new season was in production, it could be that she had all that facial reconstruction done mid-shooting, and some scenes were pre-op and some were post-op.

meanwhile I am digging the hell out of episode 4 so far
"We need to be realistic about this. I'm in real estate, this is 2006...that's good enough for me."
I don't think it's a matter of aging. She was in Better Off Ted, which wasn't all that long ago and looking at her in Better off Ted and seeing her in this, it definitely looks like something has changed. I'm not saying it's plastic surgery, there's always a possibility it's something else but there's a definite change there. If it is plastic surgery that will sadden me a bit, as I always felt Portia de Rossi was a naturally beautiful and exceedingly funny woman.
Portia did have anorexia for a time too. Dunno of that's why she looks so weird
That actually might explain it, she definitely seems thinner than she did in Better Off Ted. In any case, I'm very much digging the show so far. It still feels a little weird that I can watch a completely new season in its entirety. Not that I'm complaining mind you.
Not sold on S4 so far. The first episode was terrible and the narrative continues to be all over the place in ep2. Not really seeing any benefit to the new format of a different main character per episode, it plays considerably worse not having the constant family interactions.
I also hate young George/Lucille. They do a pretty awful job of playing those characters, like Tobias playing George in Scandalmakers was more convincing.

I'm on episode 14.
The character per episode thing pays off like crazy.
Past the halfway point and it is getting better, primarily because the story is coming together. The episode format is ambitious but I don't think it works (it is a very good thing they released them all at once).
I would love to see the board when they were plotting everything, because it's pretty complex.

Episode 9:
Is it my imagine or is there a lot of poor dubbing done for Tobias this episode? Is it my net..lagging?... Or a joke I'm just not getting? I'm sure it must be a joke I'm not getting because there's 5 episodes still left to watch and I havent watched season 1 & 2 of AD for a good while.

I noticed the same thing with that episode and the GOB one, I think it's just bad dubstep.

It's what I did and I haven't really had a problem with it (I didn't even realize this was the day the new season dropped, it was just there in my suggestion thing saying new episodes, like all the other netflix original shows).
