Firefox taking up too much CPU and Mem

I'm using the latest version. The problem isn't all the time, just when I'm playing simple flash games, CPU will go to like 90% and everything starts to lag. Any ideas? Thanks,

Martin

I think naturally FireFox'll hog resources when you have lots of tabs open might that be it?

Lots of tabs/Lots of extensions = big memory footprint in Firefox. You may want to get rid of some extensions if you have a lot.

Is this Mac or PC? The Mac I used to use at work just hated Flash for some reason. It'd grind to a halt no matter which browser I was using. Possibly due to a bad Flash plug-in, I never really bothered fixing it as it was a work computer. It could also just be shitty built Flash games.

Try this one. It's a very small file, the scripting is tight and the graphics render quickly because there's no curved lines. There was even ample processing power left to render transparencies! It was always about the only thing that would work on that mac at work.

Sounds like a problem with flash. The only time I've had Firefox bog down is when I have a multitude of tabs open and I run out of RAM so it has to use the disk cache, which causes high CPU usage and disk thrashing. I'd update Flash, or if you've got the most recent version, try an uninstall/reinstall. If that fails to help, give an older version a shot.

Alternatively you could shut down all your extensions and see if it's one of them. You might also try IE/Opera to see if Flash causes them to use lots of Memory/CPU also.

Sorry guys. It's a PC, 3ghz HT P4, gig of DDR2 ram, 128MB pci-e. Also, just the one tab and one firefox window open, no little addons or anything for firefox. The problem is, since the CPU gets so high, the temperature shoots up, and the processor starts throtelling. I'd love to figure out why a simple little flash game causes more stress than BF2.
