I mean the Gold Map is so good it tastes like cheating. Because it is
But really, stock up on characters with Despoil or Armsthrift Leif's Blade (or both) and do Spotpass teams. You can grind for renown, supports, money, and to a lesser extent levels.

Grinding up money to forge all of these Brave Weapons is going to be an enormous pain in the ass, I almost want to just take regular brave weapons (save for the tomes, I will boost the shit out of the tomes) and just leap into Apotheosis with what I have now
You get nearly 100K a go-round with the gold grinding map, and you can just set it on auto and skip turns to make it go even faster.
Made life a little easier.
This did make it a lot easier, set to Blitz.
Now I'm just going to level a couple of staff users - Emmeryn and Maribelle - and buy a few more Fortify staves from L'Arachel and I'll be good to go
So who was this rally-bot material from the spotpass maps that was mentioned? Emm? Averna? I was hoping she'd at least be a tactician for Rally Spectrum, but she's a Sage/Dark Flier. So now since I'm adverse to leveling her atm, my hopes our on the bride, but she's only +2. I'm going to wish I had the DLC with Palla, aren't I...

Yeah, the DLC has the two best rallybots.
One comes from Apotheosis itself.
Katarina. She comes with 4 rallies and darkgift, including rally strength.
My Wife's My Unit (Falcon Knight)
Palla (Bride) - she has Rally Strength it is great
Field Commander
Chrom
Everybody except Chrom is loaded to the gills with modified Brave Weapons and Brave Tomes, and everyone who can use a Staff has one Rescue staff in reserve. If I could drop Chrom I'd bring Lissa instead, but I can't.
Just got to round 4. Nobody has been in any real danger of dying yet, and no enemy has survived one round against my forces - except for that Great Knight against whom Owain's assistance for his wife didn't proc twice in a row
Every new round makes me look at the troops and go "ARE YOU SERIOUS"
I mean I still eat them all alive but it's incredibly silly how strong these guys are

If anyone still cares, a good way to raise Donnel is to take on spotpass Leonardo. Pair Fred with Virion and let him take out all the archers (preferably from a fort), and then bait out and kill the thieves with Donnel. Heal as necessary.
Still trucking along here! LB3 landed in Europe, so I'm putting the finishing touches on my team in preparation for Apotheosis and then I'll do all of the Spotpass paralogues and then fight myself in Streetpass while I wait :P

If you have two 3DSes and a physical copy of the game you can switch it between the two and streetpass yourself. Used it to clone a bunch of stat boosting items, Rift Doors and Aversa's Night.
First few maps are tough, but I feel like hard levels off fairly quickly and is more prone to punishing stupid mistakes than anything. Lunatic, on the other hand...
If by "stupid mistakes" you mean "failing to be psychic and know that reinforcements were going to spawn in that square right next to your healers" then yes.
Hard would have been a perfect difficulty if reinforcements didn't move the turn they appeared.
Usually (every time?) the game warns you that reinforcements are coming, usually via the boss shouting something. That should be your cue to get your weaker units to safety, either via pairing them up or moving them to the back of your formation and to keep a close eye on any nearby forts, stairways and so on.

Yup, you get warned the turn before. Plus, they will always appear from unoccupied fortresses or stairs (except for a couple of edge of map missions), so its easy to avoid having your healers end up being ambushed. Heck, I once ended up avoiding every ambush simply by having my characters on the right stairs at the right time.

Chrom!Cynthia, Falcon Knight or Paladin? I already have a bride and sage on my team (Lissa and Sumia), but I wonder if the mobile healing would be useful. I do have bow breaker, but still...
Yeah I'm about to restart the game on normal. I'm losing my mind.
If you plan to do any real level grinding, you kinda need Hard difficulty or the game becomes trivial by the end. It's just obnoxious to me that there were multiple levels where I was restarting half a dozen times. I would get ambushed, restart, move my weak units outside of the reinforcement range, and then the next turn they'd get killed by other reinforcements that appeared somewhere else.
Oh a free Book of Naga, for me? If you say so Fire Emblem.
I mean I have to grind Renown like a madman for a Micaiah's Pyre, but go ahead and just give me a Book of Naga why don't you?

The normal campaign is easy (on Hard, unless the final map surprises me...). The majority of the free maps are easy. The majority of the DLC ends up easy. It's mainly the last DLC map that requires a dream team. Maybe a few others will require some prep work. But mainly it's all optional.

I swear reading this thread it feels like we're all playing a different game. Some people come in and talk about how easy it is even in hard mode, and I'm having SO much trouble and I'm playing on Normal. I'm on the first mission with Donnel and I can't seem to beat it. (Beat it meaning: Donnel levels up, I get both chests, and no one dies) Why am I so bad? What am I doing wrong?

Why I fear the ocean.
Right. Well, any female spotpass legacy or DLC unit can get all the rallies but strength.
And the Apotheosis rallybot comes from beating the easy mode. So you can use her for hard mode, at least.
Why I fear the ocean.
My lineup:
Morgan (Grandmaster with Boots)/Brady (Dread Fighter)
Cynthia (Falcon Knight)/Laurent (Sorcerer)
Kjelle (Paladin)/Inigo (Dread Fighter)
Noire (Sniper)/Gerome (Berserker)
Severa (Hero)/Yarne (Wyvern Lord)
My Unit (Grandmaster)/Lucina (Great Lord)
Nah (Manakete)/Owain (Sorcerer)
Support
Olivia (Dancer)
Emmeryn (Valkyrie)
Maribelle (Valkyrie)

Apotheosis is conquered. I beat the most this game has to offer me. I feel like I can set it down - for a while - in good conscience.
Take that, strongest Fire Emblem enemies ever, with your 70% chance to use Aether and your always going first!
I'm just
I'm just so glad the last of the last only had five abilities
Now you can beat the easy mode to get Katarina!
(Note: In some ways, easy mode is more difficult that hard mode.)
Why I fear the ocean.
My god is it hard.
Hard would have been a perfect difficulty if reinforcements didn't move the turn they appeared.
Screw your mind! Trudge on! Run Eugenics! I don't really care!

Read the OP.
I hvaen't played any FE since the first one released over here but I went with hard/classic as well.
the talk of dream teams and end game on this page are intimidating! also makes me want to pick my ds back up and keep playing.
Yeah, don't get too panicked. Any team can take even the hardest DLC. Good squads just make it easier. Pair based on personalities.
Why I fear the ocean.
That being said, galeforce astra aegis lifetaker troops do make life significantly easier.
