Normally I'd think there's a 90% chance she'll get a name change so it's pretty pointless to actually call her Hinoka. But maybe she will be a special samurai pegasus knight from samurai town??? (hopefully not)
I don't think we've ever had a pegasus knight that looked that badass before. At least not in the English Fire Emblems.
It's the sideburns. She looks like she should be piloting a giant robot.
I can't think of another pegasus knight who passes "Professional" to get that deep into "I am going to kick your ass", but if she lives up to that, I think I've got my first locked party slot.

She may well kick your ass. If she decides to hand you your ass, your ass had best write up its last requests. But if she gets the order to delay kicking your ass, she will do so. (And glare at you.)
Hinoka (or whatever her localized name will be) would just make fake radio static sounds while kicking your ass. You may point out that the radio has not been invented yet. She will not care.
It's Lin Beifong and Korra. Both can and will hurt you very badly. It's just one of them has rules that the other... does not.
A two generation story arc with decisions parents make effecting the campaign on top of their eugenics program would be just about the best thing ever. Having an avatar as well would, in fact, be the best thing ever. I might even put Awakening away and play this when away from home! ...at the very least that pegasus girl is guranteed a roster spot. Holy wet dream, I have never been so tempted to write some Yuri fiction before. I think Severa might finally have met her match. Mmmm, redheads.

If I missed a lot of the DLC, is there some good replay value hidden there? I never even got the Bride!
depends on what you're looking for, but none of it really has far-reaching changes to the base game
The future past missions have a lot of unique dialogue between dads and their kids (which wasn't present in the main game) and makes up a kind-of alternate ending to the story, which is kind of neat
the scramble missions also have a lot of dialogue, harvest mostly focusing on the 1st gen and the springs focusing on the 2nd gen + 1st gen characters who didn't have a lot of marriage options iirc
the beach one is nice for people who really wanted to see chrom or cordelia's butts i guess? (also dialogue focused on the 1st gen, I think)
most of the others aren't that interesting or necessary. The challenge maps can be fun if you really want a few rough missions, but that's about it I would say?
Kingdom-level politics figuring into Fire Emblem foreplots is a well-entrenched enough pattern that I could totally see your choice of marriages determining who's on which side toward the endgame.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
Based on the trailer, Iwata's comments and my habit of Making Shit Up For The Fun Of It, I think I have decoded the plot.
You start out as a wandering tactician or mercenary band leader or something who gets hired by both the Knights and the Samurai to clear out bandits, because Fire Emblems always start with you fighting bandits. However, as you get more jobs, you find out that some of the unrest around the place isn't just bandits, but also soldiers from both sides trying to undermine the other.
Tensions between East and West rise and it seems war is inevitable. Melancholy Dancing Girl (who, based on her symbolic drowning scene has some kind of connection to dragons - who are not always divine in Fire Emblem, but might be this time around) tries desperately to stop the coming conflict, but fails because we need an Act 2.
So yes, war breaks out between the Knights and the Samurai and you'll have to pick a side - split paths have been done before in both 6 and Sacred Stones, so it's not too unlikely. The side you joined will go on to win, but just on the eve of the Final Decisive Battle that will secure victory, the evil cultists, treacherous advisors and an insane king set their plan in motion to ruin the world and the giant monsters with the golden masks show up to wreck everyone's shit.
Faced with the apocalypse, the two warring factions are forced to team up to save the world. Which they do, and so they beat the monsters and everybody lives happily ever after.
Unless you play in Classic and don't restart whenever someone dies.
Wonder if their use of the Mouth of Truth for the giant's head has any significance or if it's just because it's a neat reference to a real life object.

The white haired probably-customizable character is referred to as "prince" in the trailer.
You ain't starting as a merc. You're looking to be a full on nob.
it's kinda interesting
intsys seems like they've been cautiously pushing towards making the player-customizable character the main protagonist slowly over the past few entries
the knight-general in Heroes of Light and Shadow was more closely tied to the side plot in that game, the tactician from awakening was basically the central protagonist but not advertised or treated as such until the late game
and now we get a trailer with no clear 'Lord' character besides the create-a-commander (probably)
is the reign of blue-haired protagonists at an end???

I think people underestimate how experimental this series really is from entry to entry
I wouldn't put anything past any given entry in the series, but I also wouldn't assume that any given change is an indication of a trend going forward

yeah, just feels like they've been toying with the concept of a more player-choice oriented game/protagonist for a while
and if this is the game where they finally go for it I'm pretty excited about that
anyhow, this guy is apparently behind the main story this time around
kind of hard to get a feel since there's nothing I recognize there, but apparently he wrote a series where a dog claims to be the reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes so
Generally speaking, you'll only be wanting to level up a subset of your characters to ensure they stay strong enough to do things. The pair-up mechanic gives you a stronger way to not let people fall behind as much, even if it may be a bit.
But when I pair dudes up most of the time they don't get any exp
In Fire Emblem games they usually give you one high level character (in this case, Fred) who steals all the kills, gets no exp and hurts you in the long run. If you pair Fred with a unit, suddenly that unit is a major league baller with +4 str and def who sometimes randomly instagibs a foe. He's a good support for someone fast but fragile, and Kellam (you recruited him, right?) fits a similar role.
You can also switch who the lead partner in a pair is, so matching two similar characters is often a good idea. Also, your avatar gets 1.5x exp when paired up.
If you consistently pair two characters together they'll gain support ranks as they defeat foes, which increases the bonus stats you get from pairing and the chance of dual strike/guard. At Rank S they get married, so if you don't want to match those characters avoid watching their final support.

Fred comes preleveled and prepromoted for your gratification, so it's actually better he doesn't get xp and just sits there granting pair up stat bonuses as opposed to all your other units, who do need the xp
By Pairing Up often and raising supports, you also increase both those bonuses and the chance that the partner will help out in the combat. Just note that not everybody can support with each other. The player character (Robin/My Unit/Avatar/whatever) can support with almost everyone, but for example Sumia doesn't have a lot of support options.
Do not be ruled by pride; if need be, play the game on Normal your first time
But if you're enjoying it, stick to Hard. There's a big difficulty drop-off after a certain point in the game because all the characters in this one are so swole.
Odds are they'll keep the 'casual' setting in this new game for horribads* like me?
*Also known as people who can't deal with starting the whole damn map over because of one tiny mistake.
You could do what I've started doing during some playthroughs (and for Awakening even my first playthrough, which was heartwrenching at times): roll with the punches. Someone gets killed, well that sucks, but its war. It does make the game kind of bleak, but the intensity is jacked up quite a bit.

You can try to do a Lunatic run... If you're crazy, like me.
But you can still get the DLC anyway.
The three Scrambles offer a lot of new conversations between the characters, so they're good if you like the character interaction in the game.
Future Past is side-story about the Bad Future which is pretty challenging and has a bunch of unique parent/child conversations.
And then there's Apotheosis, which is just a way of seeing if you really do know how to break the game.

I feel like random battles should be more abundant, I honestly have no clue how anyone could beat this without grinding at least a little

Also, coincidentally, I made my avatar's face alot too. Goddammit Donnel no!...whew, I think I'm in the clear....sonavabitch don't go after Sumia!
It does become less stressful as the survivors graduate into god tier though.
