I watched the live action video on amazon prime that's, like, a pilot episode for the game. It's preeeetty dumb in several spots, but sets the stage for the plot fairly well.
Sorry for the triple post, but has anyone seen a gold edition digital version, or a digital season pass?
Normally buy everything digital on xbox due to console sharing, and I'm trying to see if there's a way to get the season pass and national guard set while keeping with that.

I just wasn't a fan of how much it highlighted how absolutely silly some of the video game logic is.
Took the train in to New York City yesterday to meet up with college friends and frolic in the snow. Hadn't really thought about the fact that this would basically be like The Division IRL, but walking through snowy Manhattan from midtown to downtown with very few and eventually no cars on the typically busy streets was super evocative of the gameplay I've seen and basically got me way more hyped for the game. Probably helped that we were basically dressed in unintentional Division cosplay.
In every shooter where people are whining about the TTK they're actually whining about how hard it is to hit.
In Bad Company 2 you were killed in parts of a second and there were oneshot weapons all over the place. People whined and whined about TTK forever because you don't have CoD laser rifles. This repeats in any shooter that focuses on teamwork and/or positioning.
Eh, there are times where it's something like BL2 where it is actually just annoying bullshit. It's not hard to mess up with your design and just make enemies with high health annoying; I wouldn't dismiss complaints about TTK out of hand myself.
For those wondering PC or Console - depends on your need/play habits. If longevity - probably a console. Learn from Titanfall.
On the other hand, if you just wanna tear through the SP, do 1-2 weeks of MP, then you might as well do it in the highest possible resolution, with everything turned up.

Okay I should have clarified. In a multiplayer setting. There's tons of RPGs with too tanky enemies.
I've seen dark zone clips where people die immediately on being shot at but internets will still complain that the combat is too slow. It's a guarantee some people will whine when they waste magazines at range at someone behind cover and they didn't immediately die.
I do as well, I adore shooters with longer TTK since it allows for more mobility and teamwork instead*. You can't have flanking and squad positioning if you die instantly from any range from any gun.
I'm looking at you BF4, BC2 was way better.
*Not to say I don't love fast paced deathmatch shooters as well, but they fill different niches. One for playing with groups, one for blasting fools in titanfall.**
Bf bad company holds a special spot in my heart. Atacama desert was a blast sitting on the spawn point trying to lob shots at my friends...
I miss that game.
But beta this weekend will hopefully quench my need for the drug called "the Division". So soon my sweet child, soon.
I messed up and thought this came out on my reading week...it doesn't, comes out the week after!
I saw a kid get handed a JB poster by who I presume was his parents outside my store today....he tore it in half infront of his horrified parents.....There's hope for our youth yet!

Well, Titanfall was also a MP only game, but I what you are saying. Honestly though, I think if this game delivers, it'll surprise you with it's legs.
I can't dispute that most multi-platform shooters are going to have larger player-bases on console. The PC has too many options for FPS/TPS games that really no community, outside MAJOR known brands (CSGO and Latest CoD), are going to be overwhelmingly populated. That doesn't mean that you can't easily find matches within the 2nd tier of shooters, they just won't have the overall numbers to compete with their console versions. Especially considering how consoles are more accessible to the general public, and have a more limited selection of shooters.
At this point in time though, there seems to be a swell around Destiny, given the general lack of consistent PVE content as well as a mismanaging of the PVP side of things (SBMM and ridiculous lag). A lot of players are looking for something else, especially considering Bungie's horrible lack of communication. While I'm not saying all of the players in Destiny are going to jump ship for the Division, my point is that a game similar in design is finally coming out on PC. Meaning that all those people who played/are playing/wanted to play Destiny, who would've preferred it on PC (myself included), now have a chance to play the new shiney, PVE focused, RPG shooter with loot progression and squad based gameplay on their platform of choice.
Am I saying that The Division is going to unseat DOTA 2 on Steam's most played list? Lord no! Do I think the console population will be larger than PC? More than likely. All I'm trying to say is that given the points I mentioned, I can see TD's population being fairly strong for awhile if they are able to pull it off right.
On the flip side of that coin though is that a lot of those people playing Destiny will want to probably get it on the same platform they played Destiny on so as to ensure that if their Destiny friends pick it up they have the same people to play with.
It's a lot easier to move to a new social game if you can ensure that you're on the same platform as your buddies from the other social game you played.

Hah, nothings keeping that same social group from saying, "Hey let's all move to PC."
No better time to have everyone jump ship! We have cookies!

Well, sure but. . .
That's a hard sell and not something you'd see much. You can guarantee your friends have a PS4 or an Xbox One. They're done and can play.
Say you have a group you play with. Will all of them have a PC that will handle the game? do they have exclusive access to that PC? Is it comfortable for them to game on the PC? Etc.
It's not as easy when you're talking platform switch because you're not only asking people to change the game you're asking them to change the way they play and probably asking for them to put out some money if they don't game on their PC.
I'm not saying it's not possible just saying it's less likely.

Hah, either way, there will be people playing. Some people will jump to PC, some people will stay on console. As long as there are 3 people to play with, I'll be good.
I went ahead and put the pre-order down to test the game out for the Beta. I can always cancel it if I don't like the beta at all.
Huh, hadn't thought about doing it that way.
Just FYI
If you do this through amazon, they do keep track of these things. If you do it often they put ticks on your account, and will just eventually close your account down for being a 'bad customer'.
Added myself to the spreadsheet, I should be on both PC and ps4 this weekend to try them out.
I can't find this info anywhere:
Do we have a confirmation on group size? 3 or 4? Only news I can see is so old it says "4 and a tablet" and the tablet part is ditched... I feel like demos show 3 people in a team, but I could have sworn I had seen videos with 4 in a team(might be old?).
It's a shame it's not going to have the second screen drone thing that was shown off. A lot of friends were excited about that feature.
edit: I watched an angry joe video where he does a playthrough event. I hate his shtick but it doesnt come into play for this. Except for him being terrible at the game, it's a pretty great video. He really digs into the mechanics and menus to search for stuff, and you get to see a lot of varied gameplay. It really filled in a lot of the blanks for me, if anyone was looking for that kind of information still.
4 person squads are max, but you're not crazy, the demos had 3 person teams. And yes, as much as I like Joe, he's not the best at actually playing.

Ubisoft has said the squad size is 4 players. Also, since I've seen some questions batted around:
Q: Can I keep the alpha client, will it be updated, or do I have to download it again?
A: It will be a new client and therefore you have to download it again.
Q: I was in the alpha, do I have beta access?
A: Yes, everybody that took part of the alpha is invited to beta

Well, I finally threw my cash down for the PC version. I've been excited to play this for years now, and after all this time it looks like it actually might deliver. All these recent videos have really pushed back the doubts I had previously.

It's hard to talk and play, I can't really fault him in the end. just constantly being out of cover in a cover shooter makes me seethe. And then he takes the shield so he can be out of cover but then doesnt use it(probably on cooldown?).
Awesome news about 4 man teams. I was worried the industry was moving in a "3 is the new 4" direction. I wonder if there is just statistics that show you can get 3 people at anytime to play together in a circle of friends, but when you need a 4th it becomes astronomically hard to organize. Or if its just focus testing.
I should have an extra PC beta code. Pre-ordered a physical gold copy off Amazon to save the 20% and I was already in the Beta from a humble bundle code. So I will make sure I have it this afternoon (it was ordered on my wife's amazon account) and anyone who wants to give the PC beta a shot let me know.

Pre-ordered through Steam (It's about $35 there for me) and the client added both "The Division" and "The Division - BETA" to my games list. From the PC footage shown, I just might stick with the game, so we'll see how the beta plays out.
I wanted the game on steam, but if it doesnt use steam friends and they cant join me through steam, I feel like I might as well grab the uplay version. Also the deals aren't as good on steam as they are for uplay codes...
Yeah I'll be using the uPlay client anyways apparently. In fact, if it's as with Farcry 3, I will be able to launch the game directly off uPlay without using Steam.

The game will merge your uPlay and Steam friends lists anyway.
Not to be overly critical but that is just saying "but theres fresh toppings on your shit sandwich!"
That's really not a great option when steam provides more services than uplay while doing it better and pretty much has our entire community already grouped and playing together. And I'm not the biggest fan of steams hold on the market, just uplay is competing by saying 'we accomplished the bare minimum but can get away with enforcing this so we are'. I don't even put it on the devs with the neat features being thrown about on the PC port, its probably a higher ubisoft decision.

I'm in no way saying uPlay is great or anything. I'd prefer if the same was Steamworks. I was just trying to make you aware of what I thought was some encouraging news that it would at least be easier to play with your Steam friends than you may have thought. Sorry I bothered.
I was about to share that, as well, Gas. You beat me to it.
DiannaoChong, the integration they are doing is just a simple 'they want their cake and to eat it to' scenario. They want the game to promote uPlay, but they know Steam corners the market. They have to figure if they can get even a small % of people to bring their friends list over, it only helps their market numbers.

Welp, I just pre-ordered for the PS4 as well. I'm on vacation until very late Saturday, and I'll probably be catching up on sleep on Sunday, but hopefully I'll be able to log a few hours and get a feel for whether or not I want to keep the order or not.
Prepare to be amazed by how horrible a player can be at this! (Destiny peeps know what I'm talking about here.)
I'm pretty confident that the PC servers will not be as populated. If you want the longrunning community and have a console, console is probably better.
There've also been some reports of cheating potentially in testing. You'll see less of that on console.
