I know with Episode VII we're moving forward but I still have not got enough Vader in my life.
Have you watched the Star Wars Rebels Siege of Lothal opening episode?
Oh hell yeah. Rebels is awesome. And of course it's even better because they had Jones do the voice.
I've always hoped that Disney would do a Vader mini-series that chronicles his efforts to rise to power once Anakin dies. I just want to see Vader running around and being bad ass.
It takes place after A New Hope, but you should check out the current Darth Vader comic series. It's mostly Vader being awesome.
On your advice I just went out and picked up every issue out, except for #1, which I just ordered and it will be here in 2 days. Thanks!
Sooo I just skimmed through that live footage since I was out shopping and the game looks REALLY good. I love watching Luke Skywalker run out and destroy people, I can't wait until I get my first Vader Hero Token. CHOKE ALL THE REBEL SCUM!
I knew DICE wouldn't disappoint with the sound effects, and watching Jackfrag's video, I am once again blown away on how good they are. Those A-Wing flybys, damn.

But the ship controls look pretty bad
In the alpha, it took a lot of time to get the feel of the controls down on flying vehicles. Heck, even the walkers felt weird at first. My biggest complaint was the ground collisions did not match up with what i was seeing in the game, so I'd explode with what looked like to me 5 vehicle widths of clearance from the ground/objects. I complained through the appropriate channels, and I wasn't the only one. I hope they were listening, because that is the most frustrating thing in "realistic" games for me, when what I'm seeing doesn't make sense even in the fantasy land that has been constructed.

that's something endemic to battlefield games. Dice's physics system is very weird when it comes to vehicles and collision.
also id ascribe a lot of the stiffness I'm seeing in the flight model to the frost bite engine as well. if you really don't like the flight model practice and see if you can get the hang of it.
PC System Requirements are out, and you'll need a very beefy PC indeed. I'll stick to the PS4 version, thank you very much.
Minimum PC System Requirements
OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i3 6300T or equivalent
Memory: 8GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB
Graphics card (ATI): ATI Radeon HD 7850 2GB
DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
Recommended PC System Requirements
OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i5 6600 or equivalent
Memory: 16GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB
DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
Eh, while the expectation that Dice would make more than a token effort into a single player mode for their games is well gone by this point, that still looked phoned in.
While I wish they'd have a conquest mode like the previous games, I'm not keeping my hopes up.
Non-sequitur: As someone in a really cold area right now, that desert planet is looking mighty comfortable. I'd like to just take a nap in one of those huts.
Those requirements tell me DICE probably put basically no work into optimizing the game on PC. There's no way a game that runs on the PS4 and XB1 should have requirements that steep.

Or it could also mean that the PC version has better texture quality than the console version and will look significantly better than consoles.
They said before if your PC ran BF4, then it can run Battlefront. I think someone messed up, because a 660/7850 in minimum requirements is definitely too steep. The CPU generation is irrelevant, I'm using a 2nd gen i5 and there really isn't a huge jump to the 6600 except in power consumption.

hahahahahahahahaha
But since high res assets are literally an order of magnitude bigger anyone in theur right mind would just pack in the low res (or make them downloadable).
Well, we'll know how bullshit that is tomorrow I guess.

Quite a few livestreams of this on Twitch including people playing on PC. Seems like if you wanna play sooner you need to try and get a beta key of some kind; I personally am fine just watching for now.
The matchmaking is kind of fucked currently from what i can see since there's not as many people in the beta just yet it seems.
The Playstation Access guys are just the most charming hypemen in the bizz, and once again they've done an excellent job at getting me excited for yet another game.
The internet seems to be full of people who try their darndest not to get excited for Battlefront. Not my kind of people! If you don't want to be excited for Star Wars right now, you're living your life wrong.

I think Disney made a mistake using EA and DICE for their big ramp up game to the new trilogy movies. But that's just because of the sour relationship I have with them for all the promises broken. I'll be really happy when I am proven wrong and the game is amazing with very few bugs.

I'm gonna miss not being able to just jump into conquest in single player and live out my Star Wars fantasies against AI.
Like so much so that I may not even pick up this game.
The thing is big names stick with big names, so EA probably strode over to Disney with all of their weight and blinded them with the potential dollar signs, instantly killing any chance a smaller(better) developer could have making a game like this.
Well, DICE made some of my favorite games of all times. Battlefield 1942 was my first ever proper online multiplayer experience. I've practically never stopped playing this or that Battlefield game since 2008 (since Bad Company 1). DICE is undeniably the most accomplished developer for large scale online multiplayer games, at the very least on a technical level (rocky launches and bugs aside). Few traditional singleplayer offline games have as densely interactive and dynamic gameworlds as Battlefield has in 64 player multiplayer, all the while looking better than most games do too.
So really, even the worst case scenario (it being a broken mess like BF4 was at launch) doesn't phase me much, because I'd play a broken Battlefield 4 over 90% of all other games anytime. Play BF4 now. It's 99% amazing and 1% broken. I am often quite amazed how blinding a bad first impression can be, because even while it was broken, BF4 did amazing and never before seen things, and the dynamic emergent insanity that unfolds in practically every round has no equal. It helps of course to be a Battlefield veteran, because winning always feels good. On average, I live longer, pull off more awesomess, witness more awesomess, and suffer less humiliation and desperation and defeat.
Obviously I'm an unabashed fan of DICE and Battlefield, so that's my bent view on the prospects of Battlefront being a really effin' awesome time.
Oh I love BF4, it's the only shooter I actually enjoy playing. I also think DICE is very capable, but I'll believe it when I see it that the launch and lead up to episode VII release is a positive experience for gamers and Star Wars fans.
If it works, great! But to me, Disney is taking a huge risk based on track record here. They clearly want this game to be a part of the total Star Wars experience, especially with the tie in to the movie with the playing the planet that we've seen in the teaser trailers. But what if no one can actually enjoy playing the game until three months after release? Because that's what EA/DICE has been doing lately.
Wow, those system requirements.... I assume that just has to be for beta right? There is no way they are releasing this game on PC with that kinda stats.

One can only hope that EA is willing to bite the bullet, and scale up its server farms for launch period traffic, because that's what trips up practically all online games. It just doesn't make short term economic sense to run servers for what's probably 20x the traffic the game will have on average for the vast majority of its lifespan after that.
Battlefield 4's server weren't up to the computational task of running BF4 for the first six months or so, until EA started to invest in all new sufficiently powerful machines. That's what caused the most glaring and absurdly long lasting issues with the game. I fully expect this not to be a recurring issue with Battlefront, simply because it's such a stupid mistake to make. EA/DICE will not make it twice.
That said, all major online games have rocky launches, and so will Battlefront. Nobody has figured out an economical way to deal with launch period traffic, and so there won't ever be a buttery smooth launch period for these hugely popular online games, but I'm sure EA /DICE and Disney are smart enough to throw sufficient amounts of money at Battlefront to make its launch as smooth as reasonably possible. Also - it's a DICE game, and they're quite obviously pushing the envelope yet again (those photogrammetry assets are insanely pretty, as are the particle effects). There will be some yank and bugs. Hopefully these issues will not be too distracting.
All in all, I'd still rather be excited for Battlefront. I enjoy that feeling!
All of my Xbone friends are anxiously awaiting the beta, and for all 4 of them the subsequent purchase of the game depends on the experience in the beta.
I'd really like to be able to play this game with these guys, so I'm hoping the beta isn't completely fucked.

What am I missing? They seem pretty reasonable.
A 660 as required is limiting the player base a ton.
Isn't the 660 (not the Ti variant, mind you) pretty much in "budget card" territory these days, though? When I just checked Amazon and Newegg, the price seemed to be around $100 (+/- $10). For a DICE game, that's pretty dang decent.
Out of curiosity, what criteria are you using to come to that conclusion?

Ahh, gotcha. Then yes, Battlefront won't have the same market penetration that a game like, say, League of Legends enjoys.

i get the impression that at least right now, it is impossible to win the Hoth map as Rebels right now unless you get super on the ball air superiority to protect landspeeder tethers on the walkers at the end of the match.
No one i've watched has yet won as Rebels even when they do well against the AT-STs and avoid orbital strikes. They don't have any way to really do enough damage to kill even one AT-AT in the two instances before the end when they can attack the AT-ATs with just turrets and ships.

I doubt that there's a whole lot of pre-teens with the know-how to build their own gaming rigs unless their parents are equally as nerdy about it
It would be awesome if I was wrong, though.
I'm not incredibly impressed with PC optimization playing second fiddle but in this instance we aren't exactly the primary demographic and I think those minimum specs would probably be achievable for most, especially when we live in a post-Batman, post-Witcher (but pre-Fallout and pre-Calladooty) age

Cohhcarnage and friends managed to destroy one AT-AT in the first opening and almost kill the other with 12 or so Y-Wings and all the turrets and firepower they could muster on both.
It shows that with a lot of coordination the Rebels can do it and they are poised to win this round, but generally the map still feels more heavily in the Imperial's favour because of their land walker options and orbital strikes via the AT-AT. Imperials can basically just focus on denying turrets and air superiority to win and let the walkers coast them to victory.
Right now, the Youtuber Westie is livestreaming it. And it definitely looks weighted in the Empire's favor (which, given that it's modeled after the opening of Empire, kinda makes sense...still, though, doesn't make for a balanced game experience).
