Does it make me a dirty cheater if I toss a thief into the mix long enough to grab sprint? Did not realize how much I depend on that skill for my own impatience.

I will submit to the will of the council.
Yes, it does make you a cheat. Part of getting through the game is having to suffer with the slow walking speed if you don't get thief. Its a price many of us pay.
Now, does that do anything to your run? Well, its not like there's an oversight committee who is going to kick your door down and arrest you for it, so if you can live knowing that you cheated, go ahead.

Bit harsh! But having realized that auto-battle and Monk is speeding up everything else so much, I'm gonna play straight. Onward fiesta.
During the timed portion of Karnak, you always sprint regardless of whether you've learned/equipped the ability or not. Was a pleasant surprise to find that out on the SFC version of the game.
Doesn't really matter on remade versions of the game, though, since they all have press-button-to-run.
Look at your Monk.
Now look at Thief.
Back at your Monk.
Now back to Thief.
Sadly, he isn't a Thief.
But you stopped playing the PS1 version and switched to Game Boy Advance, he could run like he's a Thief.
Look down. Back up. Where are you? You're on a Fire Ship, with the class your could run like.
What's in your hand? Back at Thief. He stole it. It's an oyster with two battles with that Gilgamesh guy you love.
Look again. Gilgamesh is now quoting Power Rangers!
Anything is possible when you're playing the GBA version and not PS1.
I'm on a Chocobo.
I'm actually iPhoning this one, which is part of the frustration. The only complaint I really had with that version is the clumsy virtual controls, but with Sprint in action it's a lot less noticeable.
Regardless, I don't want to break the spirit of the thing, so I'll walk slowly and carry eight punchy fists instead.
I think the iPhone version might still have the "hold button to run" thing in play somewhere. Obviously, it's a "button" in this case, not a button, if that feature is still there.
"If I were to describe the gameplay," said Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII said, "I'd say that there are some elements [in Lightning Returns] with the severity of [a game like] Dark Souls."
So, not only will the world end in a limited time – during which you have to run around and fight alone against monsters and former allies – but you also have to watch your purse strings and how much you can carry? Is this Final Fantasy or Resident Evil?
Oh, and that time limit of thirteen days? You actually start out with only seven, but can extend it up to thirteen days by completing missions.
Currently, the game has been completed to the point where it is possible to play from beginning to end and the developers are tweaking the game balance. Hopefully they'll make the game as fun as it sounds difficult, if not easier (or at least add a difficulty setting).
So it's come down to the "let's compare our game to Dark Souls" argument, has it.
Hrm. I've forgotten the order of events. I've finished the fire crystal, and gotten the black chocobo now....now what do? I cant believe I forgot.
(Other than grind 200K for a set of flame rings cause black mages)
Spend your vacation AT THE LIBRARY.
1). I never found a button for it, or anything in the menu, so I don't think so
2). Is that "AT THE LIBRARY" from a source?
2: Yeah. It's from an episode of Avatar. Sokka has the best lines, I swear.
OK, thanks! My friend and I had been trying to remember what that was from for years, and we re-watched Avatar once and noticed it, but both of us couldn't remember if that's where we originally heard it or not. Yay conundrum resolved!

Hah, they wish. If they can reach that level of mechanical precision in the gameplay then I'd be all for it, Dark Souls is one of the best experiences I've had this console generation. I doubt it though, FF has been all about flash for as long as I've been a fan. The closest they've come to having a real sense of weight to attacks for me has been playing as Terra in Birth By Sleep - I imagine XV will have some of that, but LR doesn't really seem like that sort of game.
Would this be a fair assessment on FF game rankings? Totally agree with VI being number one. I think they are being too harsh on XII and XIII. There is no X-2 or XIII-2 in there though.

Final Fantasy doesn't have the guts to be that anti-hand holding and sadistic.

There is no correct ranking of Final Fantasy games because most of them are too different mechanically and thematically from each other. Every single ranking list of the series is a highly subjective personal opinion as you're ranking apples, oranges, strawberries, grapefruit, etc. rather than all the same thing.
It's why this thread has been the jokingly "I hate Final Fantasy ____" thread because every individual game in the series is hated by someone in this thread.
I'm not sure how you would go about ranking 8 anyway. From what I can tell, peoples' enjoyment of it is based mostly on how far they're willing to go out of their way to avoid most of its normal mechanics.
Dimensions is fun stuff and all, but now I have JP. I think I can just go, like, use it? On things I like? I hate that nagging little voice that says there's a perfect way to distribute it.
I really wish they would let go of crystals as a plot element. That is ripe for parody. Actually, I remember and old FFXI video. Lets see if I can find it.

Edit: Yeah, I guess I wasn't considering that I'd be using four times as much Gil each throw.
Anyways though, VICTORY for my first Fiesta, yayyyy

Screw Genji equipment, Sprint makes Thief worth it :P
(I wouldn't think staying Thief to grab sprint would matter much, it doesn't really change anything gameplay-wise?)

Karnak was the only thing I could come up with, but I don't know how Sprint affects encounter rates.

Spend your vacation AT THE LIBRARY.
Edit: I think the basic walk speed might actually be speedy on it's own, and the Sprint ability gives you the double time walk.
I'm just really impatient with walk speeds.

FFX is way too low in that list.
