Someone needs to tell Lightning she's trying way too hard with that outfit.
Everything is so weird with XIII-3, between the setting, the story, the visuals, and even the gameplay change to focus only on Lightning instead of a full party. Whether the game is good or bad, I feel compelled to play it.
I like Lightning, but I'm not sure she's really a strong enough character to pull a game on her own (story/characterization-wise). I haven't really paid attention to anything about Lightning Returns, but I'm worried

Kagari hinted that she has seen the ending.
the reaction was not kind.
I don't know, even if it is shit, the opening cinematic pretty much sold me on the game. I was worried they would have Snow completely lose his mind and be the primary villain, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Hell, they even had a friend fight. I know it was pretty obvious Sera lookalike was at least a primary villain, but it's nice to see at least her and Snow aren't exactly on good terms.

Basically, this game looks like it has nothing to do with FF13 or 13-2 at all. It's like how Leon in Kingdom Hearts isn't the same guy as Squall from FF8.
I do like what they're doing with Snow though, and those Anubis monster designs are rad.
Ok, so in FF2, is there a trick or gimmick to beating the Emperor at the end of the gamer? I can't out-damage his lifetap. My guys are only doing a fraction of their normal damage to him. Firion, who normally does about 2K damage combined total from his dual wield swords is doing 0/0 with his swings. Guy, who I have been leveling as a monk/fist user generally punches for about 1600, and his punches are only doing about 150-200.
And then the Emperor will punch someone, doing 3k damage and lifetapping 1500 back.
My toad ability isn't landing on him either. After about 20 casts spread over 3 fights, I haven't ever landed it.

The trailers I've seen show a lot of interactions with previous characters in the series, and they all seem at least as interesting as they did before. I'm not too worried about this

Use the Blood Sword.
Hmm. Ok... I don't seem to have that.
I looked the sword up on the FF wiki, and they say it only appears during a small window of time in the story. You get it from Paul before you summon the wyvern to take you into the cyclone. Since I'm well past that part in the story, going back to get it isn't an option.
Gamefaqs is unfortunately blocked here at work so I will have to wait till tonight to find alternate strategies.
You're just going to have to buff your team in battle (I mean use buff spells against the emperor, not grind), then..I think there's only one Blood Sword in the iOS version.
There's not wanting for it to make sense, and then there's something on the level of jumping into Game of Thrones in the middle of season 3, mid episode, mid-sentence. I think you'd just end up being plain lost and rapidly lose interest.
At the very least read a synopsis or something. Then again I would imagine the game would include one itself anyways.

If I recall correctly, if you grind the Toad spell up the wazoo you can defeat the Emperor with it.
LR is a consequence of 13-2's events, and the whole thing will probably be set up such that the previous games will be like the "backstory" already present in any other story game. The designers have stated they're trying to make it where you can play LR just fine without ever having played the previous titles (because obvious reasons).
That said, I think it would be better if you played the previous games because of the character interactions. It'll be a lot more fun to witness the exchanges between Lightning and Noel, Caius, Yuel, and Snow if you've played the previous games. In this I think 13-2 is even more essential than 13-1.

My last numbered Final Fantasy was XII. Ever since somewhere in the middle of that game, I've been sitting here, tilting my head, trying to get my bearings.
Didn't realise that Bravely Default was getting so close.
Lightning Returns looks to have very little to do with 13-2.
Some guy broke time, the end of the world is nigh.
That about sums it up.
Yeah, no.
The characters in 13-2, one also from 13, killed the Goddess and broke time after being manipulated and let Chaos into the world. Lightning, a character from 13 AND 13-2 is ressurected to save the souls of everyone before the world ends and is either helped or hindered by all the characters from the other two games.

Plus pretty pretty princess dress up.
I wonder if we're going to see something similar to FFX-2's dressphere system, where the costumes equate to a class system et all. I would be ok with that.
I don't think very much of what you did in 13-2 is going to have much of an impact on LR at all. It was all about fixing time paradoxes, finding a way to stop Cocoon's pillar collapsing and finding Lightning. Those plot lines were resolved and LR provides a new premise, setting Lightning up as the saviour of lost souls. Really, the only thing from 13-2 that informs the setting is that
Caius broke time.
It's not like we were introduced to a whole bunch of important characters in 13-2, after all.
Noel - hung out with your sister
Caius - immortal bad guy, broke time
Yeul - prophet, died a lot
Serah - Lightning's sister, prophet, died (not even a new character)

You forgot one.
Alyssa who was supposed to have died in the "right" timeline, so sells Noel and Serah out to Caius to stay alive.

Damn... I'm going to have to wait until the world transfers open up then uproot myself from Siren.

After the first two games, only madness lay before us. My body is ready.
We did the unthinkable.
We got G&T and SE++ to combine their powers into a super Arcadian entity greater than the sum of its parts.

Well, server transfers are apparently mid next month...
And hot damn I just got my arse kicked in by the Stone Vigil dungeon. Time to mull over the encounters and plot how to best handle them in my head

I haven't played 13-2, which made the trailer extra ridiculous...
Y'know, I think I'm good without it. I'll just jump in the crazy end of the pool.
iOS.
13-2 is plenty worth playing tho. It's a lot of fun.
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
So I've heard. I suppose I have time...
I just really don't want 13-3 to make any sense
Have faith. When has an FF game ever made sense?

I really wish S-E would just localize DQ7 for NA. Like, waddafak.
Wait, does it have an official release date?
