Games where the Supporting Character should have been the Main Character

You just know someone's going to say Snake in MGS2 (though, as Kojima pointed out, he still is the main character, you just get to see him from someone else's perspective).
I am probably the only person who will say that...but pixy from Ace Combat Zero. Completing a sortie and fly home with one wing left on your F-15?? PRICELESS!

Because he was more interesting. That says a lot, because Zidane was a non-stereotypical main character.
Nah. Vivi gets about the same screentime as Zidane, and shows up pretty much wherever he is. Besides, if Vivi's ending was the last thing we saw in the game....:(

And this, ultimately, made Snake a better character, which most people fail to attribute the change in perspectives.
I still would've loved a Snake scenario to see everything he did (he's the only one who even fights the Ninja.
What's the name of the game where Bruce Willis was voicing the sidekick, but the publisher decided that Bruce Willis should be the main character so they reworked the game. The problem was they couldn't get Willis back into the studio so they just made do with sound bytes with him as a sidekick, but redone for a main character. The game wasn't bad, it was a generic isometric view shooter such as that game ONE, but I can't remember the name.
As much as I loved Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, I really wanted to play the story Luigi told, too. I don't think necessarily think that Paper Luigi would have been a better game, but Paper Mario definitely would have been better if I'd gotten to play Luigi's story as well as Mario's.

Snake in MGS2 (duh)
The Professor in Contact. Come on, best supporting actor by far.
Heartbreak One and Pops in Ace Combat 5. Especially Heartbreak One, a prequel should expound upon his history.

Genya Arikado in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Imagine running with a sprite of Alucard in a swank suit! I was so disappointed when I found that Julius was the only other playable character. It just seemed so obvious, you know?
Actually, he was fine in a supporting role.... I just wanted him to be a bonus character so bad...

Apocalypse for the ps one. Wasn't bad at all when I played it originally, but it probably hasn't aged too well in the gameplay department.
Because he was more interesting. That says a lot, because Zidane was a non-stereotypical main character.
FF9 is one of those games though where I don't really view Zidane as the main character. There's lots of sections where he's not the lead, the party splits up into two or three groups all the time and generally everybody in the game gets fairly equal screentime (except Amarant and Quina, who are kinda different anyway.)
FF9 I think is more about the ensemble than the "main" character. Kinda like FF6 in that respect.
FF9's ending was a lot more cathartic than FF6's ending, though, because it focused on the "main characters", and there was actually some resolution there.
I think Amarant and Quina are optional anyway?

But I found the Arbiter tons more interesting than Master Chief in Halo 2 and he should have been the main character because he had the better voice.
I agree with you, we saw more about the Covenant side. Master Chief's part just lacked narrative in my opinion. You really didn't learn anything.
You know thinking about it, I kinda agree with you. But I hated playing as the Arbitor. The Sarge, Cortana and all the other soldiers were far better side characters, I kept getting confused over the Arbitor storyline because I could never remember who was who. That and Master Chief's story had two of my favourite video game lines in it.
"Thanks for the tank, he never gets me anything."

Zidane is my favorite RPG hero.
I really liked Zidane because he was really upbeat and he genuinely cared about the others. ALL OF THEM. Not just the one with tits. He really cared about Vivi, secretly because he identified with him. Freya was one of his homies. He clashed with Steiner because his attitude was dangerous. When Amarant wants to know WTF is wrong with him, Zidane is prepared to give answers. He knew exactly why Eiko was so clingy.
And when life finally came down on Zidane and he nearly gave in, they all came to him to lift him up, and he rose to the top in the end. Someone said he's like Vash the Stampede. Very refreshing from the I'm emo and a haet everything and everyone except for my ho' crowd.

Yeah, I meant to say in my post above that I disagreed that Vivi should have been the main character. Zidane really did function as a lynchpin for the entire cast of FF9--it couldn't have centered around Vivi in the same way.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Sid Meier doesn't appear in the game and Alpha Centaur A, B, and Proxima (the stars) play only minor roles when compared to Planet, itself.

Hasn't someone actually tried to create a game where you influence external elements by playing as "the world"?
Or maybe I'm getting confused with some bullshit Molyneux made up about Black and White.
