Firstly, i played through the regular edition on PS3, i picked up the prepare to die edition on steam cause i apparently like pain. However my first attempt to apply dsfix failed badly. I started up the game, turned off AA, left the game, then could not get it to start again without an error. I opened the dsfix file into the proper directory, still couldnt get into the game anymore. Has anyone gotten the dsfix program to work on windows 8? (I hate 8 but i got a superfast computer very cheaply and that was the tradeoff).
Next, is the soul farming trick in the gardens still in the game?
Also, is the bug with the dragon helmet that gets you infinite souls still in the game?
I tried getting Moonlight Greatsword a whole bunch of times. I got a Baldurs side sword, enchanted +5, and 44 intelligence. I get maybe 4 or 5 smacks on the damn tail but no drop. Invariably I get murdered afterwards. This has happened like 25 times.
Well, no more! I just went over to my big smithing buddy and made lightning zweihander. Going to try this again tonight and I'm hoping the results will be better.

Getting the Moonlight Greatsword can be dicey as hell, I remember trying to get it myself a dozen times or so. Sometimes the tail just doesn't come off.
Did... did Ron Howard kill an invader? What is this girl he speaks of?
Near the beginning, there's the merchant. There's still a bunch of tutorial stuff on the ground. And after I started attacking the merchant, he started going on about Yulia. I went to run back inside, and back up the stairs, and another undead person jumped out. She was about as tough as the merchant, which is still more than most of the rest of the undead which I've faced so far. So that's the girl I'm talking about. The undead looked female, anyway. And took three power attacks to take down, instead of the normal 1-2. And had different moves.
I never got it but I seem to recall you have to hit his tail deceptively near the tip. Something like that last 1/4 of his tail to cut it off.
It's not even that, sometimes the tail just bugs out. As in, it's impossible to sever it before Seath dies from the accumulated damage. I know this can be the case because it happened twice to me, and on the third try hitting the exact same spot severed in a few strikes.
Friendos, I cannot for the life of me get this game to work. I have tried port forwarding (every single one), I reset my TCP/IP, I altered my MTU, I reinstalled both the GFWL client AND Dark Souls... And now this cannot and will not run. I spent my entire Sunday trying to make this shit work.
Nothing happens. First it was the fact that it wouldn't download an update from GFWL. Every time I tried, it gave me the error code that I mentioned in my "I hate Microsoft" feedback rant. I did all the changes, one-by-one, to no avail. Now the GFWL client won't even open without immediately crashing. The same goes for the Dark Souls executable.
Are you on Windows 8? Have you tried running GFWL in compatibility mode?
Vista 64-Bit. judge me if you wish
No judging here, I used Vista x64 for about 2 years and never gave me any issues, it's a solid OS! As for your problem... I am lost, GFWL is truly terrible.

So many people keep telling me to move to 7... I will! Eventually! I'd still be on XP if I could, to be honest...
And yeah, GFWL is ruining this entire thing for me. Why they had to resort to a third party for the online platform, I will never understand.
I've been playing this for a few days off and on over the past couple weeks. I watched a buddy play it for an evening or two when it first was released, so I know the general flow of the game pretty well. Still, the Capra Demon is kicking my ass hard. I've watched videos and I can't seem to get him to react the same to dash behind him at the beginning, so most of my attempts end with me getting stunlocked near-instantly and dying.
I also don't play online, so I think I'm unpatched. I don't seem to get rewards sometimes for beating bosses and enemies - I got only 1000 souls and no humanity for beating the gargoyles, and the metal boar never dropped his helmet.
Oh well, still having fun. I'm actually able to handle the cemetery skeletons pretty well with Astora's Straight Sword, so maybe I'll go down into the Catacombs instead.
Yeah, they used the GFWL frontend because of how the network is setup. They would have had to build their whole online component from pretty much scratch if they didn't.
So, since Capra Demon is fucking my day still, I think I'll go poke Havel until he dies as a worthy diversion.
Question: is it worth it to join the Way of White to buy Petrus' miracles? I thought I'd focus on faith and miracles but sorcery seems to be way cheaper and have more useful stuff.
Capra demons the one in that small room with the broken staircase right?
Heres the trick.
run up the stairs, kill the wolves as best you can. the demon will follow you up the stairs but your much faster then he is. when hes nearly at the top, fall off, he will start to jump down, then run around and up the stairs again, and do the dive bomb attack on top of him. then repeat. The worse part is just getting to the stairs before his initial swipe takes you down with the wolves attacking at the same time.
If you can survive the first 10 seconds of the Capra fight, you can win it. Just get up the stairs and onto the little doorframe next to it. This will make the dogs attack you single-file, allowing you to kill them easily. Then wait for the Capra Demon itself to get up to you and fall down after it tries to attack. Then fall on its head with a plunging attack. Rinse and repeat.
Or fight it one-on-one and just exploit it's openings. It's not particularly tough without the dogs around.
Yeah, I nearly got him once, it's just a matter of surviving that initial onslaught. For some reason he doesn't quite let me through that first attack and I haven't mastered the way everyone says to dash past him, and I'm tired of throwing myself at him right now.
I'll get him eventually, I'm not really looking forward to slogging through The Depths right now anyway.
Fuck absolutely everything about Blighttown. I completely sympathize with Donnie Downer at Firelink wanting to die again before stepping foot in that shithole.
Blighttown is the zone that goes too far and crosses the line between dangerous and just obnoxious. I really hope they can show enough restraint to not include a swamp level in DS2.
I just finally went through Blighttown and it was pretty easy with my semi decent warrior with a halberd (which seems like the best weapon in the game due to reach). Then obviously I died in the swamp after running out of estus having headed in the opposite direction to the bonfire...

The Gargoyle's Halberd is also pretty useful for boosts in resistance in case you have one.

Don't hold your breath. These guys don't have a line to cross. It's just the open plains of hell all the way to the horizon.
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
The only thing I dislike in Blighttown (now that I know my way around) are the goddamn flying bugs. First of all, an endlessly respawning enemy runs against the mechanics of the game. I hate when games break their own rule sets. But more importantly, I despise how difficult they are to actually hit. That's not a design problem, that's a mechanics issue. The game in that instance does not work as it should.

Except you look like a hobo wearing robes made out of burlap sacks.
When you wear the Shadow set, you look like a friggin' NINJA.
Are you dissing the hobo-look? Because the magical hobo is much cooler than some shitty Naruto cosplayer. :P
I got the impression Yulia is an imaginary pet, pet rock or similar. I've heard the guess that he's talking about his sword.
Havel's Armor or bust, pansies.

Ninja-flipping lvl 5 Havel-armour dual-wielding lightning demon greataxes, #YOLOSWAG420
According to the character planner, you just have to take your endurance to 94.
Thats with wearing Havel's Ring and not carrying anything in your hands.
I know what build I'm going to try out next!

I think I've only ever gone up to like low 50s in Endurance max for fast rolling in good medium PvP armor and good weapons.

You beat one of the hardest bosses in the game! Here's your prize!
