Yeah, I started with a Mystic Flame Knight. In retrospect, this was actually fantastic for me. I used the Red starter, picked up a Naga on an early PAL pull, an early Titan (sorry 38thDoe), and my second free rare pull was a Flame Golem. I had a really good mono-red team within a couple of weeks. These aren't traditional "good" starting rolls (e.g. Greek god, etc.) but it carried me until much later. Granted, it hasn't been as much of an issue as I've IAP'd a decent amount, but I still don't think rerolling is all that necessary; just optimal. After trying on my iPAD about 6 times, I don't know how people do it for days.

How do you reliably do a mono-colour team? Don't you spend most of your time matching and getting no benefit?

I guess you could have monsters with skills that turn X colour into red in there...

Hm, a lot of strategy I have to figure out here.

I love it when games have a really simple core mechanic and then have just level on level on level of depth you can descend into.

    Yeah, orb changers.

Though even without them, you shouldn't run out of your color as long as you can reliably make 4+ combos in a single turn.

Most mono teams are operating off of 4x attack and 2x health/recovery (By bringing one leader with 2xAtk,2xHP and one with 2xAtk,2xRCV). You might not hit every turn, but you hit hard and have the defensive stats to handle dry spells.

Yes. Matching "trash" orbs to get them out of the way is almost as important as matching your color. This is something that took me too long to figure out.

When I started, I didn't even know about rerolling. I did start with a Lilith, Witch of the Night at 30. She has high attack (for low levels), high rcv and poison and the orb timer stall was good for learning movement and combos. I was pretty set for a while.

One of the benefits of a mono-color team is that it's a little easier to "stall" - take turns while doing little or no damage, usually by making single matches at the top of the screen. This allows you to charge your skills for the harder bosses and sub-bosses while tanking hits from the weak trash monsters. Essential for ensuring you have your big hard hitting skills (like gravity or morning star) or utility (menace, poison, armor break) when you really need them.

You can clear Master with out much issue with a HQP ... though you don't get the ultimate drops, if any at all... though I might be bias with my Archdemon Lucifer for the 4th wave.

Think I have cleared Master 6+ times and only have 3 of the dragons.

From the drop rate thread in the OP.
*High observed variability based on reported drop results. Expect as low as .10 or as high as .40.

Updating to add Scarlet Snake Princess results.

    Some sad math for you...

    .28 nagas per run

5 skill ups possible... 30 nagas needed to achieve a 75% chance of max skill (source).

30/.28= 108 runs to max skill Echidna = 1620 stamina or 20-ish stones. AND it's worse than that for one out of four people. (Well not exactly... since I only considered variability in skill up rate and ignored the variability in drop rate)

  • gjaustingjaustin Registered User regular
I got a Naga on the first wave of my first run and she gave me a skullup.

Considering my last 15 feeds gave me nothing, I'm glad to finally have her max skilled.

Ended up spending my whole lunch hour playing. Got through nearly all the elemental dungeons without trouble. It was only the final light one that gave me even a bit of an issue, and I've only upgraded by black knight and red dragon a few times each.

It's no RCV, so I'm not so sure about Lucifer being able to pull it off.

If you're enjoying the game, you should start rerolling now to avoid the frustration because Ifrit is bad. PAD is long, grindy, and makes no qualms about it's unforgiving RNG. For every "hella sweet no IAP box" smug.gif you've got kids like this sinking money on trash:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZZtZ08nE44

For the early part of the game you can breeze through on a solid friends list easy enough, but after Castle of Satan, the gloves come off, and free stones start drying up.

Rerolling helps you get 95% of the content out of the way. The very very endgame can be tackled no IAP with enough perseverance and specialized teams. It's tedious, but a good starter makes all the difference in the long run. So pop on a movie, grab a beer, and chase after one of these guys anime girls:

God King Tier: Isis, Horus, Archangel Lucifer

Top Tier: Ares, Hermes, Artemis, Freyr, Idunn & Idunna, Freyja, Parvati, 'Incarnation of Suzaku, Leilan', 'Incarnation of Seiryuu, Karin', 'Incarnation of Byakko, Haku', Dark Angel Metatron

Okay Tier: Shiva, Persephone, Loki, Baal, Bastet, Archangel Uriel, Archangel Gabriel, Archangel Michael, Odin the War Deity (Blue Odin), Archangel Metatron, 'Incarnation of Genbu, Meimei'

Sick of Rerolling Tier: Lakshmi, Odin (Green Odin), Apollo, Thor, Siegfried the Blue Champion, Valkyrie

I disagree there, they have a much better active than Isis, but they're all useless in a lot of tricolors(except for the odd one that happens to match their combo).

And yes Astaroth is missing from around top/god tier.

Isis offers excruciatingly easy 9x damage with no need of orb changers to help stack the board. Astaroth requires REM monsters until you can grind Heras and at that point you wouldn't need a good 'starter' anyway. Not to mention without the collab to skill her up the active counterattack is nowhere as effective.

When the SA guys put together the list it was monsters designed to offer the best experience to new players and get them as far as possible with little effort. That's why stuff like the Chinese gods are slightly lower and Ra/Kirin down at the bottom even though they offer the highest potential of all.

Persephone should be higher then, since she'll get you through a good deal of descends where you're not looking to double luci on a luci team. I usually take one if I don't feel like thinking about taking care of 2k+ defense in earlier rounds. Definitely need higher level subs than normal though.

Yet Horus is at the top too despite being fairly hard to use himself. I am, personally, TERRIBLE at using Horus. I just use him for his RCV and Fire Enhance. I'm so bad at Horus that I fed my Ra to something else so that I would never, ever be tempted to use him!

In the long run, Isis is next to useless. I'm not saying that she shouldn't be on the list, just that I'd rather have any of the Okay tier in my box than her. In fact, Isis and Lakshmi are the only two on that list who make terrible subs.

Wish they would release details on ancient dragons so I know how many to keep. I'm thinking only 3 of each, seems most monsters they showed had 3.

Sticker girls are hardly worth 5 stones in my opinion. Nice skills but hell to skill up.

It's still a very slight nerf because you'll absolutely have to heal on the turn you use morningstar, otherwise the poison kills you when your turn ends. Granted, you need to heal anyways to burst with two morningstars, but depending on how hard the poison hits it might require more than a single heart match.

Interesting to see what the Godfest will be and whether or not it will be the community chosen gods or a standard godfest. Some people (not me) will be happy Satan is finally here. I'll try to pick up Goemon this time, although his use seems to be declining, and just level up some monsters. I'm happy it looks like Gold dragons will be here finally, as Valk is hungry! The only thing that annoys me is that Dark Knight Sword is on a Thursday again and I'd really like to skill up my CDK, but will need to plant farm (and probably Pengdra farm, knowing how GungHo likes to do it that way).

Most excited for 2x skill up rate to try to get Echidna maxed. Come on 1/12!

Skydragon Rush seems like more doable with AA Raph + Ama friend and a mono-light team... I need to look at the dungeon though, haven't really looked at it at all.

I want a Satan, but I don't have a Goemon to run it or a Horus or a Ra. I have Hera-Ur though for a 9x devil team instead of a 12x devil team.

Seeing I am 0/6 on Goemon right now, maybe this time I will finally get him. Though its a monday which is my busiest day of the week-.-

Awoken skills seems interesting, I have 4 ancient fire dragons (2 from expert drops) and now I need to level up my GrOdin to evolve and ready to feed to my other GrOdin.

Theoretically the stats are better than your standard healer team member, and changing two colors to hearts allows for better burst. The sacrifice is of course going from 5 turn orb change to 15.
I think a ton of people will roll based on the fact that they are girls and rare. People seem to like that.

Also Awoken system drops in Japan soon. Finally we should have all the details.

Oi, I'm having fun with the game, but it kinda saddens me that there's an easy way to get fucked right at the beginning so easy, just by playing the game as told and not knowing what the super-sekrit god-tier monsters are.

Fuck it, I've played the first day's worth of shit twice now, I'm not so dedicated that I need to re-play it all again. I'm saving my stones for whatever crazy event y'all are talking about and maybe I can pull something not-trash from it, whatever.

So many things to spend stones and stamina on...

Anybody know the best level in castle of satan/abyss for finding mystic knights during the event? I've got all of them except blue but could use some skill ups, and could really use a fenrir.

Also, as someone who is just getting into the late-game content, what's a good skydragon rush master team that doesn't rely on having the really high tier gods? I've got a Ra but he's pretty low level and I have my doubts about pulling that many combos regularly. If the best way to go is high atk multiplier to pound through the dragons, I guess I'm best off (given my selection of multiplier dudes) with meimei or ardberg as leader with maybe another ardberg or isis friend? Or is that not likely to be enough? I was thinking an odin team would be safe enough with the dragons' damage output until I noticed that they're all multi-attack.

The big reason for rerolling and doing the tutorial dozens of times is to pick the monster you want, after that you are stuck with whatever is given to you.

If you plan on spending money on the game than the original monster you get is not that big of a deal (though helps to get a lvl 30 compared to lvl 5). The re-rolling is more for the people who do not want to spend money on the game, or spend limited amounts of money.... Some people are over level 120 and have spent 0$, others are over level 120 and have spent 200$.

The "god fest" is just where you are 3x more likely to get a God dropped, but it is by far not a garuntee.... some people will get 5 gods in 6 pulls, while others (like me & @spoit) can do 6 pulls and not see a gold egg.

My first time starting the game I played until I was around rank 25 (7-8 days of playing), than quit and rerolled after learning more of the game, though still did not know a lot. I threw away a good god and settled with an below average god. I was able to get to rank 25 in about 2 days though and it was a lot easier until starting to do Technical dungeons with my below average god.... I think I uninstalled and reinstalled the game about 20 times during a godfest.
