i have one large scale prank

    it would need like

    30 people

get them all walking seperately in different directions down the same street

    doing various things

    and then

one dude bursts into song, ala a musical number

and then everyone else follows seemingly spontaneously

but it's actually really well-rehearsed and choreographed

A friend of mine did this a few years back, mr lateypants.

Afterwards the only thing that happened was an old lady told her that it was nice.

We get some huge-ass boxes in at work. I had the idea of just gluing two together vertically, cutting out a hole in the middle, and hiding inside. Then I can jump out and surprise the night shift when they show up.

would a dude in a werewolf costume actually fool a city full of people into thinking there is a real werewolf eating a dude

    hmmmmmmm

dude i ain't even talking april fool's day

    i am talking in general

if you did something like that

something so obviously unreal, but not really obviously fake or staged

    how would people react?

my gut tells me people would safely assume it's some kind of elaborate prank or show and do absolutely nothing except look for the camera.

i am going to copy-paste what i think is probably one of the best prank ideas ever

Zack: I think possibly the coolest prank would be to put up an ad on monster.com for some amazing job. Like a corporate vice president, seven figure salary, and then give an address for the applicants to come to. The address is like an old abandoned molasses factory and then you just cram it full of people wearing this costume:

    07.jpg

So when they open the door they are confronted with 20-30 of these. No desks or office equipment, just these guys standing around a molasses stained factory.

Dr. Thorpe: And maybe you could get twenty or thirty old tape recorders with tapes of babies crying and hide them all around the place, playing baby screams at full volume.

Zack: Yeah, and in the run up to the interview all correspondence should be via email and it should all have some weird foreign diction. Like they'll think you're Chinese or something. Then they realize that the whole company is just a bunch of these. We should totally have our own TV show. You know that.

Dr. Thorpe: Definitely. Also, there should be a big pink banner that says "WELCOME TO THE NEW DEATH" or something. Or maybe just "PROBLEM."

Zack: With a question mark, and there should be some really tinny music playing, like some old 1920s big band music on a record player

    Dr. Thorpe: ¿PROBLEM?

Zack: When they first open the door all of these guys are just kind of shuffling around. They're all doing things that people do, but not quite. Like moving a broom awkwardly or just holding a telephone receiver that's not connected to anything.

Dr. Thorpe: And when they see the guy come in they all just stop and stare and start wordlessly vocalizing in monotone.

Zack: Yeah, like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or something. You could have framed employee of the month pictures by the entrance and they could all just be like turn of the century family portraits.

Dr. Thorpe: The kind with posthumous baby shots.

This is beautiful. I would love to be a part of it.

Well, what if you had it with really good gore effects and such?

And maybe even had someone with a blank-firing gun or something to chase it off, and just leave the dude there, entrails all hanging out?

nobody would fall for that, right

    it'd be ridiculous

    so

we see these horror movies, and i think: man why's the mutant psycho alien killer thingy even gotta be shadowy? just do everything right in front of everyone

nobody would believe it anyway, so long as you didn't leave dead bodies behind for people to check up on it

step 1: get 22 people together

    step 2: get a football

step 3: have everyone come out of nowhere, sprinting to a field, preferably not a field, but like a park with obstacles like bushes and fountains, but be sure its like, crowded

step 4: start playing, full contact

    step 5: ????

    step 6: profit

    well your gut is right

because people may be dumb but they ain't fuckin six years old

I mean, you wanna freak someone out, you gotta set up context

a dude getting eaten in plain sight in the middle of a city ain't gunna provoke no panic

    but you set it up

middle of the woods, all dark and giving people a couple hints at shit

    lead them into believing

people will want to believe shit like that given the right context

    couple footprints, scraps of clothing

then a scream in the dark

    then silence

    then more silence

and then BOOM RAAAAWR you jump up all in their shit

I've had the same kind of idea for a long time, Pony. I don't have the means to pursue it at all, but I would love to do something like that. Something that is just so off the wall that no one could possibly believe it... But ya know, you just saw it happen and you have to believe your own eyes, right? It'd be really interesting to gauge the kind of responses you get to something like that.

That's why I really like the kind of stuff that Improv Everywhere does because half the time, people can't really tell if they're joking or not.

And the time when its obvious that they're joking, its hilarious.

and you know everyone who sees it is going hom and telling all their friends about it.
